  1. Or we could hope Shaw figures it out so we have another great player for the future? But no, lets hope Shaw sucks so we have Hiura up and only Hiura next year...Instead of wishing to have a good Shaw AND Hiura next year. Or one heck of a great trade chip in Shaw.
  2. The Cubs did not say this...this is a wild out of LF rumor with no substance to it.
  3. You can nitpick Thames all you want, but he has not struggled. He has a .850 OPS on the year and .900 in the last 28 days (which covers most of May). He had a slump like most of players have in baseball. Maybe he is streaky...who cares. Overall he has done pretty darn good.
  4. Perhaps we didn’t pony up the money. Sure we don’t know why he didn’t sign here or if we even offered him a contract...but 99% of cases money talks.
  5. I was and am still ticked they didn’t sign Miley. Can you imagine the difference if we had Miley in stead of a Burnes/Peralta in the rotation to start the year? Wow.
  6. Definitely not a blip. The SS position is waaay better than it was a decade or so ago. Way more elite bats there. To me it felt like suddenly the draft was all these big potential SS guys overnight.
  7. I've got a feeling if Yasmani keeps this up & can make it through the postseason without forgetting how to catch/block balls that we'll find the cash to bring him back. I think it will all depend on how long of a contract he will be seeking...I can't see us ponying up for a deal longer than 2 years, but I can see him looking for 4 or 5... He can look for that all he wants, but good luck getting it. Unless he has a truly breakout offensive year I don’t see why teams would suddenly offer him big long term deals. I would expect his numbers to come down to earth a bit and even if they don’t not really convinced teams buy into one big season. Would it really be shocking for him to come back at another ~$20mil price tag? Wouldn’t shock me to be honest. Or sign something like 3/$45mil. He was great last year and walked away with a one year deal.
  8. Too soon to tell. His stats are decent and he is only 22...which is still fairly young for AA. He still isn’t much of a prospect in my mind though. In the sense of getting excited over. I always said if he could find a way to hit .270 he would be something interesting just because he takes walks so well. Of course that is also when he had speed and he doesn’t steal as much as he used to. Not sure if there is something to that or not. A few years ago he seemed like a potential lead off hitter if he could increase contact with the speed.
  9. Dominic Smith is nice in theory, but probably way to complicated to match up and agree on. Not to discount his age, but before his small sample this year he has been pretty bad. We need an upgrade and someone we can be confident will be an upgrade. I don’t know Smith can be that. Last thing we need is to trade meaningful value for a guy and watch him struggle too...we just can’t. I think there will likely be easier to acquire, cheaper, and more reliable options out there.
  10. Good thing 1B is a black hole, which is where I imagine he gets time to play. Though at the same time they could get bailed out by Moustakas (unfortunately) if he needs to go on the IL. Seeing as Nottingham is on this roster I am guessing they will be fine with all of Thames/Aguilar/Shaw on the roster for the short term...because it doesn’t get any more wasteful than a third catcher.
  11. Let me summarize: “Yah! Let’s go offense! 5-0 lead with Woodruff, ballgame!” “Terrible defense, if there is a reason to send down Hiura this is it!” “I might need a break from watching this team for a few weeks” “MVP MVP MVP!” “We can’t expect Hader to get six outs all the time! Might as well get him out of there now, Sign Kimbrel!” “HIURA!!!! We can never send him down! Thank god we kept Hader in pitching!” “Albers is asking for trouble.” “BIG OLE SASSY GETS OUT OF IT.” “ARCIA! BALLGAME!” *takes blood pressure meds and makes doctors appointment*
  12. Wow their last pitcher is in and is up to 42 pitches. Come on guys, no excuse. Edit: And ground out on ball four Edit: fly out on the first pitch, way to do them a favor
  13. I’d like to know the last time a team had catchers hit in three consecutive plate appearances. And yes I know officially it isn’t like that.
  14. 5 Ks. Yes two big hits but only one other guy hit a pitch in play an infield pop up. So he wasn't his best but terrible is a little harsh. He came in to a terrible situation 1st and 3rd with no one out. K’s are great, but he was getting knocked around on way too many pitches.
