  1. I wouldn't. Yelich is a really special bat that I think is going to improve greatly here. I think he makes a better impact over Archer on this team in the coming years. Pushing Braun and Thames to get better match-ups will also make a huge difference. I like this offense a lot if Santana stays and Braun can play at 1B. But yah, I think it would have gotten Archer.
  2. Tigers former owner who recently passed away. I can't think of an owner more massively involved in FA signings in recent memory. Great owner though. I think it is rather irrelevant though. The names being listed are really extreme examples I think all owners can become involved sometimes. Attanasio didn't seem to be involved in the Cain signing nor trading for Yelich. Deep breath everyone.
  3. I’m guessing Boras mostly communicates with owners to convince them they can afford it. If David Stearns didn’t want Arrieta we wouldn’t be involved. I’m guessing these conversations are a full circle. Attanasio might sign off to sign Arrieta for X dollars, but Stearns might counter Attanasio asking what he is willing to do in future years for the overall payroll. I don’t think Attanasio is involved like he was with Garza/Lohse. Not a twisting his GMs wrist type situation.
  4. Domingo Santana is not playing 1st guys! If that was any type of option do you not seriously think it would have happened this spring? If they are trying Braun at first they are looking pretty low and desperate to move an OF to 1B.
  5. Yet... give me arrieta... just sign arrieta. Some people care, clearly others haven't the slightest worry. Well you said no one cared and I’d say this thread is pretty 50/50 on yes/no. With many of those yes answers very dependent on other factors. You seem to think 9/10 want Arrieta no concerns. I don’t even know if 10% of people in this thread are so blindly in love with Arrieta let alone “everyone”
  6. Actually a lot of people care. A lot. Couple hundred posts worth.
  7. Is he signed yet? Ok, moving on now. By end of week. Then just close the Cobb thread and start a signing one so we can talk about the 2018 rotation like he is in it. Everyone please stop posting here. We signed Cobb and it’s unrealistic to sign another starter. Also probably should lock trading for Archer etc. too. I’m not going to talk like it has already happened. You can if you want, but that seems silly.
  8. Is he signed yet? Ok, moving on now.
  9. If he opts out, that means he's done well, and thus we'd be able to tender him a qualifying offer. And thus get back an even better draft pick. Can only be offered one QO in their life...so no. We get nothing.
  10. That pick had nothing to do with their value of resigning Arrieta unless they literally valued Darvish/Arrieta the same. I highly doubt that. The difference was not a Comp B pick. It’s because Darvish was clearly better.
  11. Do basically is Attanasio going to open up his check book or not. There is your one sentence summary.
  12. The Cubs did have interest bringing him back and it seems like they would have brought him back over getting Darvish under the right circumstance. It is hard to know what was going on since we don’t know the contract offered, but the Cubs didn’t just run from Arrieta.
  13. I am more surprised the Rays wouldn’t roll the dice on Odorizzi bouncing back.
  14. The problem is the stupid amount of risk they had to take on for a guy who could be pretty middle of the pack at his own position in his prime. You are pretty much banking on 2017 being something you will see going forward. $144mil for a guy with little track record of high success is crazy. He is a guy who should have gotten 4-5 years max and not dished out 8 years. You just don’t dish out that much length to a guy like him. It is just terrible from a risk standpoint. The backloading is nice though and $13mil probably isn’t that much in 6 years.
  15. Someone is good at posting the “beating a dead horse” picture...I think it needs to be inserted here.
  16. This collusion is rough stuff.
  17. I don’t like Odorizzi at all, but wow.
  18. Yah there has to be a reason he was DFA’d. Tampa isn’t stupid.
  19. No, just no. Arrieta is going to do just fine. Not bad enough to even consider risking a down half season. That would be a disaster. This makes very like sense to me. Then why not sign already? Ask him. Just because it has taken this long make me really really doubt such a deal is possible. Arrieta probably wants Darvish like money. Darvish did just fine and it took him forever.
  20. No, just no. Arrieta is going to do just fine. Not bad enough to even consider risking a down half season. That would be a disaster. This makes very like sense to me.
  21. Fake rumor. I’m not a Braun lover, but this doesn’t make sense. Both are expensive so no one is saving money. And why are we trading Braun for another overpaid OFer who is worse? I get it, prospects can come back, but that is just dumb. If we don’t want Braun then we really won’t want Kemp. But really, FAAAAAAKE. Stop talking about Braun anything(in my opinion).
  22. I hope for the sake of twitter you can help kill the annoying fakes.
