  1. Not trying to take away from what Loyola has done, but they were a team clearly better than what seed they were given and have played a whole slew of unimpressive opponents. KSU without their best player in the Elite 8? Yawn. That being said they are a really solid team that could certainly win two more games. Just not an incredible run beating top tier opponents.
  2. Let me know when Perez can post an OBP near .400 over a 300 PA season. I suppose you should check out Eric Sogard’s 2nd half stats.
  3. The only semi interesting things out of all that was the fact they don’t think they have a lot more payroll space and they were close to trading Santana a couple of times. The title to that article is painfully misleading though. He pretty much GM talked most of it.
  4. If Thames continues to hit like he did in spring training, I think he will lose his starting role vs righties very quickly to Braun. I wouldn't pencil him for 110 starts just yet. First it is spring training and secondary I don’t think we see Braun that much out there at 1B with how bad they still think he is. Only reason he will face LHP there is because he crushes it. I’m not so sure they think his bat is worth it against anything else quite yet. Thames will have a really long leash of time before Braun really starts stealing his entire role.
  5. Yeah in an ideal world this works out, which would be great and I’m pulling for it. But with the general nature of pitchers and younger pitchers in Woodruff/Burnes and Davies (relatively) it’s almost a guarantee at least one of those guys above isn’t a real option a year from now (or at least an option that doesn’t give us the best chance to win) due to injury, regression or projection/development not met. Well I can add even more names if I really wanted to. Like Chacin the guy who has an MLB contract next year. Regardless it should be solid enough I doubt they target multi year guys with large contracts. Probably lesser guys like Chacin if need be.
  6. If a player has a no trade clause they have to accept the transaction even if you claim them and the team doesn’t pull them back. It’s more than just a no-trade clause.
  7. Plausible is preferred unless otherwise stated. You Darvish on a 4/$56mil deal would have been my wish. See...silly.
  8. I wish we would have done something else. It’s hard to know what specifically because we have no idea what the trade possibilities were and the costs. FA signings are a little easier to guess on what we could have done. Jake Arrieta - A realistic chance to add a TOR arm in not retrospect looked like an enticing idea. The contract he got was doable by us if we could have gotten him for similar. Lance Lynn - In the retrospect down the road we could quickly regret not getting in on him for a one year commitment. Unless you like to cry over lost draft picks...then probably never. I would have been really tempted to sign him.
  9. I am taking Hernan Perez over Eric Sogard. Both suck as hitters, but at least Perez can play more positions.
  10. Pretty sure we already have a thread on this topic, but regardless it doesn’t make a lot of sense that we will be big spenders dishing out a multi year deal to a starter. Burnes/Woodruff should both get lots of experience this year. Where is the need then? We should be able to fill out a good rotation next year. Only could see us trading for a near ace level guy we can’t afford in FA that will give us more TOR talent.
  11. Wasn’t there talk of the 4 man rotation at the start of the season allowing them to delay (lets be honest) dump Aguilar? Then if an injury happens it could be even longer. If I remember right it didn’t take Braun long last year to be hurt. This isn’t a new development though. Aguilar was good as gone after Braun got pushed to play a bunch of 1B. Regarding Villar, he is the starting 2B. I don’t think he is going anywhere...especially to make space to keep Aguilar.
  12. This definitely sucks for this year, but I guess now you hope Woodruff and Burnes can turn out. That gives you a nice and cheap rotation moving forward. 1. Nelson 2. Anderson 3. Davies 4. Woodruff 5. Burnes
  13. Seriously Brewers...this one should be interesting in retrospect. We had the money for pitching and we were being massively cheap going after Cobb. It will be interesting to see how he pitches and how our back end pitches that could have been replaced.
  14. Well I am guessing they just don’t think he is actually an MLB pitcher. His stats are crazy ridiculous, except his K/9. Brewers obviously don’t think it is going to translate or every other team in baseball that had a chance to nab him this winter.
  15. I believe I read that they count the average salary of the entire contract against the threshhold to prevent teams from avoiding it with lopsided deals. Can anyone confirm what the rules are in that regard? Correct, no cheating the system.
  16. Our cap will increase in 2020 or before. Our TV deal ends in the next few years and that will definitely bump it up.
  17. I’d guess anyone who is in the 4/5 spot(unless it is Woodruff) will have a very short lease. Someone like Miley may not even have a 5 start leash.
  18. That is an extremely myopic viewpoint. Spring Training stats don't really matter, unless you are a rookie or a reclamation project. And right now, that is what is vying for the 4-5 spots in the rotation. If Miley getting shelled now leads the team to cut bait, rather than getting shelled in games that matter, I'd rather Miley make the decision easy for them now. If ST stats don’t matter then why do you(others, whoever) hope Miley gets shelled? It literally does not matter apparently. If you realize that, and assuming it is true, I am pretty confident David Stearns Co. knows that too. That being said players fighting for roster spots I would say performance matters. Those guys likely aren’t experimenting like veterans who are assured their spot. Chase Anderson is tinkering around so that is a different story. A guy like Suter or Miley is likely giving their all every time. I am sure they have scouts looking at them and figuring out which is best well past their statistics etc. They will pick who they believe is the best option and I will be happy with that. I’m guessing most of the people who want him to get shelled haven’t watched him throw a single pitch this spring. They just hated the signing, hate Miley, and want nothing to do with him no matter what he does in spring training.
  19. Wow, people hoping a guy gets shelled. Instead of hoping everyone does good and let the best man win we hope guys do terrible so who you **think** is the best can get it. Wow, just wow.
  20. Not a terrible deal to sign him to. I really don’t think there is that much risk(more than any other player) as people are making it out to be. At 3 years I would have liked him, 4 years is meh.
  21. I didn’t like Randall and Burnett isn’t stellar by any means, but we just took the worst area of the team and made it much worse. If all we do is sign bounceback guys and draft, wow. Sounds like surefire disaster.
  22. If he gets caught for performance enhancers I don’t know who will be more dissapointed...us fans or his girlfriend.
  23. Is the roof at Miller Park still leaking? No, but shockingly they do play on the road sometimes and it rains.
  24. Odorizzi is significantly better and has shown that for years.
