  1. Mark Attanasio said the Brewers still have room to add one of the big free agent pitchers and David Stearns is still working on it. Hard to say how sincere that is as I am always skeptical of comments made by the owner/GM, but it seems he is quite serious.
  2. He was that bad...so bad he never was attempted in a game. Why do you think Santana has never been brought up as a 1B possibility ever? Khris Davis is another example of a failed 1B guy as mentioned. Lets be honest Santana can't even field a grounder rolling through the OF...let alone in the infield.
  3. I was really hoping the huge revamp would mean better quality food...sadly it is rewarmed trash still. The White Sox and Cubs know what they are doing with sausages, that is for sure. Maybe someday we will do the stupidly basic measures to make our sausages taste 100x better.
  4. Braun said it and only him. Stearns did not sign off on this ridiculous idea.
  5. I am actually a little insulted by the Klements preference...but I think that is because I am a Wisconsinite and take my beer, brats, and cheese curds a little too seriously.
  6. That is just something on Braun's end I would guess. Kinda like when he always says he thinks he can still play SS. No one else thinks that.
  7. Ryan Braun at 2B? Trying to get some good PR there Braun. Brownie points for you.
  8. Ryan Braun could not read a ball off the bat to save his life in RF. His reaction time was bad, lots of first steps in when it was hit hard, and took pretty bad routes. It was definitely below average defense and he probably has not trended up with age. Also Santana was definitely the failed 1B project I was thinking of. The Astros scraped it so fast he never saw game action.
  9. It is for some players. Isn't Santana a failed 1B experiment? I like to think Braun could do it without that much trouble...but then again why has it never been attempted before? Makes me wonder.
  10. The main reason why I think the Braun to 1B might be a load of garbage is the fact he has never even practiced there. You are trying to tell me we are going to go into spring training with this as a total mystery? What happens if we get into spring training and Ryan Braun is a trash can at 1st? There is no way Ryan Braun just becomes a #4 OFer. The only plausible way to use the players as we have now DEPENDS on Braun being acceptable at 1B. Lets not forget we have had a need for a 1B in full or in part time for years and people always throw Braun's name out there. It has never happened even when it made sense to help with all the nagging injuries. You are telling me now, just now, we are going to roll the dice and make a strong assumption he can handle it? I have a really tough time believing that is a plan the Brewers want to do. Maybe as some last ditch option Z if we just can't get a good pitcher for Santana. And that isn't because I don't like Braun, don't think he can play 1st, or don't like the idea of keeping them all. I actually am ok rolling with Santana if his market isn't good and like the thought of having Braun platoon with Thames and backing up the corners. It would make a really nice offense. That being said I think the Brewers fully want to and expect to trade Santana before spring training. I don't think they really want to keep Santana. Though hopefully they test Braun at 1st regardless.
  11. Yelich is a special controllable talent that is cheap. Everyone wants him. Santana while good is one of many good offensive OFers...and sucks defensively. You have the chance to get Santana type players all the time. They weren't necessarily looking for an OFer. Sometimes you start wanting one when Yelich becomes available though.
  12. Yep. Can’t pick and choose when you want to have morals or high character. Sorry MrTPlush, but baseball is letting these guys burn for something they knew about and we complicit about. Pause there for a second. MLB does not own the hall of fame last I checked and does not run it in any way...it is a seperate entity. The baseball hall of fame did not allow those players to use steroids and turn a blind eye, that was MLB. I think it is a little silly arguing if Barry Bonds etc. should be in the HOF, THEY ARE! Their stories and accomplishments are all on display there. In my opinion that is what is important. It is a part of the history, although bad. Being inducted into the hall of fame is different. Those are people the hall wants to put on pedestals as great examples of ballplayers and as people. All I am trying to say is the current writers are well within their rights to keep these players out of the hall of fame. The HOFs definition of a hall of famer is different than yours. It is what it is.
  13. I want one of those so bad. Should make it a premium giveaway, I would be there.
  14. I am getting a little concerned how heavily people think fanfest can effect massive decisions for this ballclub. I am willing to bet Yelich/Cain happening this week was more coincidence than trying to do something before fanfest. If they had a deal in place for Santana I am pretty sure they would pull the trigger vs. risk losing the deal over upsetting fans. Domingo Santana isn't even that much of a fan favorite. It isn't like we are about to dump Eric Thames or Ryan Braun on fanfest eve. I also think since Santana would be going for another MLB piece(like Archer or Salazar) I don't think the PR would be that bad. Not like we are trading for prospects and tearing the team down.
  15. I too wonder if they are just going to roll with Villar/Sogard/Perez at 2B. Honestly if we keep Santana our offense is going to be pretty sweet and those three guys should be passable. It also allows you to see if Villar can bounce back. Which I think he can with the talent he has...may not do it, but certainly the type of guy to do it. I just don't see Lucroy though. Pina/Vogt aren't that bad(were a decent duo last year actually) and I just cannot see Lucroy coming here to split time.
  16. They aren't hamstrung on cash for next year...no one said that. The problem is a few years down the line. There isn't major salary coming off the books until Ryan Braun rides off into the sunset. Arbitration and minor additions are really going to add up in the next few years. We can't max out this year or the pot is going to overflow later on. It is impossible to know what the Brewers are willing to max out at in 3 years or so which makes it hard to know if they can add Arrita/Darvish or not. I really don't think all that money saved in the past couple years is going to increase payroll. I don't think any baseball team is ran that way. That money was invested into non payroll projects. They had a major renovation for the food last year and now they are renovating the spring training site. That is how that money was spent.
  17. Impossible to really know. Id guess someone of the Arrieta/Darvish magnitude is highly unlikely.
  18. Yah, I think that is how it works...what exactly are you trying to say?
  19. As in throwing $15mil a year at someone for 4+ years...something along those lines.
  20. Let’s be honest here. We all are concerned about this SP depth, but why are we so scared to deal some of it when we get a PROVEN controllable starter in return? I would package Ortiz/Woodruff together faster than you could believe if I got someone really special. That still leaves us with our safest bet starting pitching prospect. 1.Fulmer 2.Nelson 3.Anderson 4.Davies 5.Chacin 6.Burnes 7.Suter Someone has to get traded eventually. We already have a young controllable staff. You can’t fit Woodruff/Burnes/Ortiz all on it too. We have a load of relief pitching prospects so not like we will need them there in a few years. By the time we would need to start replacing these guys(4+ years) the minors would restock, we would be rebuilding again, or we could get someone via FA. Just throwing it out there.
  21. Lol, sure. Must be why they are looking at all those “TOR” guys presently. Dang you Ryan Braun! Darvish isn’t a Brewer because well, we are the Brewers and he doesn’t want to be there. It’s okay. We will survive. We don't know if that holds true anymore. Lorenzo Cain could have been our one and only FA splash.
  22. People bag on Braun's contract because it is a waste of payroll space. He is pretty replacable at this point. Brett Phillips could match Braun's production(due to defense) I would bet. If the Brewers could trade Braun's contract Yu Darvish would probably be a Brewer quickly after. Then we could keep Santana for one heck of an offense or trade him for a different need. Sucks, but that is the reality.
  23. I am not too sure all that saved money would actually be used in the way you are describing. Are we really going to say we saved $100mil the past couple years so we are going to sign Darvish and in the future go over the typical payroll by his contract amount if we have to? Yaaaaaah I don't know. That $140mil payroll number might be accurate if the Brewers would actually increase payroll by inflation and you take into account a new TV deal. But it seems steep...doubt that happens anytime soon.
  24. It was reported elsewhere that the Brewers had made an offer for Yelich, and then that the deal was finalized, before HH said anything about it on here. Suggesting that Darvish was signing with the Cubs seems like another wrong statement, since as far as we know that has not in fact happened yet (how would anyone in the Brewers front office know that anyways?). I am not saying that he doesn't and I fully understand plans and deals in MLB are fluid. I just would like to see and analyze all available information rather than simply take one person's word as gospel. Exactly it is no different than anyone else who tosses rumors out there(Rosenthal etc,). Even when it comes to the big dogs I am not going to sit here and make sure every Brewer possibility fits that rumor. We have spent all offseason talking about a big pitching acquisation and here we sit with two major OF acquisations. A lot of people brushed off the Cain rumors all winter as him trying to pump up his market. Some of us stopped to think about it and saw the fit. Never "ride or die" on one rumor and never toss out a rumor as total BS.
