  1. Because the team needing a 3B can’t afford to add a Moustakas salary? Maybe the Brewers would trade Shaw instead of moving him to 1B because they could gain major prospects or MLB pitching etc. Thames and Aguilar aren’t worth that much and would not get nearly as much as Shaw.
  2. I don’t think it is that far fetched. It seems Stearns is pretty motivated to use the payroll he is swimming in. This concept seems to follow a theory I have thrown out there a couple times this offseason. Trade someone(Stearns seems to be targeting the sell high guys Santana/Shaw) to gain prospects and sign someone to replace their production. Essentially you are spending your payroll to gain prospects. Though you do cause yourself to become a little older and add that decline risk with age vs. flash in the pan decline risk. I think the Cain/Moustakas interest is pretty serious and the Brewers may be playing a big part in the slow market we have seen. However I think his wording is wrong. I don’t think they would sign Moustakas without already trading Shaw.
  3. Kyle Lohse gave us two pretty stellar seasons on a 3 year deal. From a production standpoint that deal worked out lovely for us.
  4. Honestly I hope the Vikings lose next week...no team deserves to win like that. To me that was just sad...not amazing. When it comes to the playoffs I like the see teams earn it and in my mind they didn’t really earn that win there at the end. That’s just my opinion though.
  5. It would be fun to have a Darvish/Arrieta...if of course they give us some TOR production for a few years. I think the prices are in the Brewers grasps(at least on Darvish). Think I would skip Arrieta at 5 years though.
  6. My oh my why does everyone have to be so negative? I understand some posts are a week old or so, but why must any connection we have be nothing? Why are our offers low ball offers? Why? Any reasoning behind that? Maybe Stearns actually wants to improve our rotation and with a huge amount of payroll will put in an aggressive offer. Especially if someone can be had for less years than they wanted(3 years for example).
  7. Only half serious here: Wish we would have traded Knebel and signed Reed. I am more bored with this off-season and this actually makes a little bit of sense.
  8. I’m really not going to get all up in arms about Arrieta because I just don’t think our offer is going to win. It sounds like it is going to take over $20mil AVV and the winner is the first to nibble on 5 years. I don’t envision Stearns being that guy if the price gets towards $120mil+ Once he signs it will be interesting if our offer leaks out. My guess is we offered a highly aggressive three year deal.
  9. Garbage 1st round draft anyway. Taylor Jungmann was not a bad pick where we got him. Some thought he had some decent upside, but even most thought he was going to be a solid mid-rotation guy(really safe pick at the time). I wouldn’t complain about that at all where we drafted him. Jed Bradley...umm...that was someone they must have fell in love with as an organization. That didn’t work out.
  10. I like the comparison. When Ray was drafted, I envisioned a Kenny Lofton type player. Let's hope he can become either of those guys. I'm not a Ray fan but if they sign Cain to anything more than a two year deal it will tell you what the Brewers think of Ray. No, it really doesn’t. You don’t depend on prospects, ever. Unless they are major prospects like Brinson I wouldn’t ever assure them a spot. If you can do something to help your club that is a good deal you do it. Not plan for Ray in 2+ years. You can always trade prospects for players. I guess it tells you they don’t view him as a major all star in the near future...but I feel like we shouldn’t be surprised by that.
  11. Well he is interviewing in Cleveland today http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2018/01/browns_gm_john_dorsey_wants_to.html While it is true that he’s under contract, Gutekunst said he will not stop Wolf from seeking a job elsewhere. Yup, that was reported after I mentioned it.
  12. The argument, valid or not, is that they just beat the team that beat both of the teams playing in the Championship Game. Not completely crazy, IMO. It is incredibly stupid: #1 Both those wins were at home not to mention Auburn lost to Georgia too. #2 It isn’t about who your opponent beat, it is about who you beat. UCF could have handedly lost to both championship teams. You don’t hang banner for that kind of thing. Did the Chiefs get anything for beating the Patriots/Steelers during the regular season? Do they deserve the #1 seed in the playoffs?
  13. Whiffing on Hundley isn’t that unbelievable. How many times have QBs with actual NFL success been signed to big deals to flat out flop?
  14. Wolf is under contract and cannot leave for anything, but an improvement...a GM job. Unless the Packers let him leave for a demotion.
  15. I would say age is a pretty big factor for a catcher. Lucroy seems to already have declined defensively and offensively was a bit suspect after the trade at times. The biggest argument would be teams unwilling to give up an elite prospect like Brinson for a non All-Star player(though Realmuto could be one). The length of contract makes him worth one in general terms. I agree with your proposed type of value in a trade, but I definitely could see a Brinson being possible in a trade.
  16. Realmuto has a ton of value, but I'm not sure he's going to fetch a return that strong. It shouldn't be surprising that teams looking to rebuild want to trade for our prospects, our system is loaded. Miami fans surely like the Yelich to Atlanta rumors, same with Pittsburgh fans with Cole to NYY. Both those front offices are very good and won't overpay in value for those players. Unless you are trading with fools like Dombrowski or Epstein, the days of insane prospect hauls for established major leaguers are pretty much over. I don’t think that offer isn’t far off what it would take honestly. He is incredibly young, proven, and controllable three more years. That is twice as long as Jonathan Lucroy. He doesn’t have the MVP like year under his belt that Lucroy did, but he is younger and controlled longer. If he is a 3+ WAR player(not hard to believe) he isn’t definitely worth that kind of package.
  17. Alright that is great if they don’t work for you, but millions of people use billions of K-cups. So to call them pointless is a bit off base.
  18. That’s what a Keurig does in an incredibly efficient, easy, and convenient way. No need to mess with a filter, grounds, wait for water to heat up, or cleaning a coffee pot. Cup of coffee in literally seconds and you have the ability to have a wide range of flavors and don’t have to commit to your whole pot being that flavor. I am sure it is quite expensive compared to conventional coffee making ways, but if you have disposable income for your coffee it is potentionally a great product. I don’t drink coffee and don’t own a Keurig...but I wouldn’t call it near pointless.
  19. I admit I haven’t watched much Lorenzo Cain in my life, but if both Phillips/Cain are on the field at the same time I would probably put Phillips in CF over Cain. Cain probably over Brinson in CF. Lorenzo Cain would likely end up in RF sooner rather than later in a 4 year contract. I’d guess.
  20. Pipeline already himted Harrison is likely in that 50 range.
  21. I don’t know it doesn’t really bother me that much. I think it is a bit unnecessary and a little too political for my tastes, but I know a lot of other teams have been doing it. I just don’t understand why a team wants to get involved in this kind of thing. Were Brewer fans really clamoring for a Pride Night? Is this honestly going to motivate people to support the Brewers more? I seriously doubt that. Just another meaningless special day in all honesty.
  22. If we avoid signing someone over losing a second half 2nd round pick we are a lot dumber than I thought. I’d bet on Lorenzo Cain doing more in one season than that 2nd rounder will do in his entire career for us...and I’m not even a Lorenzo Cain fan.
  23. Rainbow Pride. Personally I dislike a few colors of the rainbow and will have to skip this one.
  24. Just this offseason, rumors of us being interested in Arrieta. Then a day later, the quote below which basically negated the Arrieta rumors. Nonsense rumors are a fairly common occurence. Regarding the team’s rotation needs, Stearns says that the organization’s “market and history” under his stewardship are “a better indicator of the types of moves we’re seeking than some of the external speculation.” That seemingly hints that the organization won’t be chasing high-end free agents, though perhaps some of the top pitchers could still be considered in the right circumstances I've said there's a chance multiple moves happen that would make bringing in Cain a more logical decision. I personally think it's more likely and a more simple explanation that the rumors have a shade of truth but are mostly nonsense. Stearns was referring to speculation which is a lot different than rumors. Speculation is like a prediction...where a rumor is something with some type of substance. The Arrieta stuff was largely speculation. The Cain information sounds more like a rumor.
  25. Why must every time someone sees a rumor that doesn’t make sense to them they have to instantly resort to saying it is just an agent making things up? This idea isn’t that hard to believe and the concept seems simple. IF they can get good value trading Santana(maybe that nice starter we all want) I could see the thought process. The biggest thing against trading Santana is the fact he is a proven bat and it would hurt to lose that on the MLB squad negating a lot of gain from whatever we get in return. So after trading from a strength we then could use a different strength(payroll) to get back what we lost from Santana(proven OF bat). Good chance they don’t want to pay the price of FA starters and are looking to trade for one using an OF they can afford to replace via FA.
