  1. I will stress again I made the thread as a conversation assuming we had the problem of an extra legit prospect OFer(like Phillips/Cordell) or an extra MLB OFer. Not a well this, this, this, and that happens, but I don't want to talk about that as it is early. Just pretend it happens down the road what do you do. It is is more of a philosophy question and not directly tied to specific players on the team and what they are doing now. Do you trade the prospect/MLB player away and stick to 3 starters with below average bench bats or do you keep the guy to have a solid 4th OFer PHer? Assuming that you are a competing team.
  2. He has missed almost 40% of the Brewer's games so far...that is pretty concerning(I include 3 games he failed to go more than 6 innings). What is more concerning is the sheer volume of things nagging him. Once these things start to nag him I am sure they will show up again and again. Think his thumb, back, hamstring, and oblique that have all bothered him in recent years. Is he going to have arm/trap/calf issues now? Like I said I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, but it only seems to be trending the wrong way for Braun. I honestly can't remember the last guy who had this many different injuries in a months time.
  3. It's mind boggling to me how many times you hear of crazy behavior before drafts in any major sport. Well in his case it sounds like he is always an idiot so not like it is a new development.
  4. That was what I was thinking. Keeping Broxton as a 4th OFer who gets a ton of ABs anyway if he can produce in that role. Phillips/Cordell probably only get a shot if someone has a major injury and Santana seems like a prime trade candidate just because his defense is meh and can't play CF. Only risk is if Broxton doesn't do well with all the off days and you effectively kill some of the trade value if you then want to trade him.
  5. If the start of this year is any sign of what is to come we might seriously wish we had just dumped him for the best offer no matter what it was in retrospect. He sat out the majority of spring training in an attempt to stay healthy, started some ST games and his back flared up, then the season started with a back issue, then it was his foot, then he has a trapezius issue for days, then he hurt his forearm not even playing in games because of the trapezius, and now he comes back and it only takes a few days to hurt his calf while he is still hurting from everything else cause terrible throws. This for a guy who already gets a ton of days off. IT IS MAY 11TH PEOPLE. http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/mlb/4048/ryan-braun I truly hope he can be more healthy, but with his history and the start to 2017 should make people pretty concerned. With that I would be really shocked if we got a good deal for him with the injury resume he has built up. Seems destined to be here till the end of the contract and I really hope he doesn't become a DL regular to end his Milwaukee career. It is only a matter of time before the injuries and age catch up to Braun. When is the question.
  6. What is clear are his genius marketing skills. He is hyping up a product before it even happens with FREE marketing. You all think he is an idiot/annoying/etc. when he really is getting the exact response he wants...you talking about them. He is building his brand for free right now and doing a pretty good job. He just needs his kid to become a star and the Ball brand will make him loads of money. Is he ever going to successfully sell a shoe for $500(that isn't special edition)? Questionable, but then again he likely said that to get people to talk about them.
  7. Thats not true and it has actually dropped each year since the last good year he had. And this year I know it has dropped 1mph which may be 2mph with the new tracking system, but not really sure. This article covers it all pretty well and I like their view on his value: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/no-mets-fans-youre-not-going-to-get-anything-good-back-in-a-matt-harvey-trade/
  8. Has there been more than the one issue of him oversleeping and being late to the game that I'm not aware of? Thats a real nice way of putting it. There have been reports teammates have been quite annoyed with him for awhile and has been a problem for the team for years. It really hasn't been a pretty relationship out in New York.
  9. It is no mystery we have a lot of promising outfielders currently roaming the MLB level and the AAA level. It is incredibly likely between Broxton, Santana, Cordell, Phillips, and Brinson we have more starting caliber guys than we have spots for them(2). One can comfortably assume Brinson is going to fill one of those spots for the next few years eventually. So with that you have four guys vying for one spot. To add onto to all that Broxton/Santana both are hitting well on the season so the OF logjam that a lot have figured would happen is seeming to shape up. Now I understand this is not a for sure thing, but for this we are going to assume it does indeed happen: What do you do if there are more starters than spots? Now the immediate response you typically get is that you trade one(likely the worst of the bunch). However David Stearns was on the broadcast the other day talking about offensive depth and made a direct comparison to the Cubs. The Cubs last year(and to an extent this year) have starting caliber guys or legitimate prospects being bench players. The gain here is having great replacements when injuries occur and having great pinch hitters at the end of games. So it really comes down to if you think that is more valuable than the trade haul you might be able to get. I find it to be an interesting scenario and for me I might keep the player over trading them especially if it is an OFer as they will get a lot of ABs anyway. My other requirement(for an OFer) would be their ability to play all three positions. So if it came down to Broxton winning the battle over Santana I would probably trade Santana over keeping him on the bench as he can't play CF. Another value in this I see is the fact you would have someone experienced that could take over for Braun when he is done in 2021 filling that void quite seamlessly. Additional Assumptions: 1)The extra guy isn't all star or anything of that nature as you wouldn't put that on the bench. He is pretty average. 2)He can't be moved out of the OF.
  10. Kirk N, there's an answer for you. I would prefer that.
  11. But he isn't. That's the point. The Brewers need that bat. I don't know our offense is pretty good all around this year. Making him play injured doesn't seem very necessary.
  12. He's not "some guy." Other than not throwing it to the correct base, the play at the plate would've been very close if he was 100% healthy. Does it matter? He made a pathetic off balance throw with a crippled arm that barely made it to the infield. I don't see why if he was 100% matters. He knows he isn't anywhere near 100% and didn't have any business throwing it in the direction of homeplate. It was a horrible play. I don't blame Braun for being crippled and playing RF...but he has all the blame for throwing it home.
  13. Seriously there is no excuse we have some guy in the OF who can barely make a throw from normal depth to the infield. That is a joke and embarassing.
  14. And today's recipient of the Jonathan Villar mental mistake award goes to: Ryan Braun
  15. mmmmmm....no thanks. I feel those mostly end disasterously.
  16. Excellent job on post #5000! Life Achievement I tell you.
  17. Matt Garza keeps pitching well and even he won't be overpaid. Not really any bad contracts on a young team. Maybe Feliz, but that is a drop in the bucket type money that is pretty meaningless on the payroll.
  18. Pretty sure Adrian has a no trade clause...so good luck with that one. Hard enough to get one to waive it let alone two. You would have to send Adrian to another really good contender. Doubt it even then though.
  19. Haha your post is totally frowned about, but wow it made me laugh.
  20. Trey Supak needs to be promoted. He is way above A ball hitters. WAY above.
  21. I agree that Wily would be too expensive as a middle reliever, but what if he was a closer? Teams pay closers well. Peralta moves to the pen and gets comfortable in June, and then takes over the closer rolls after Feliz is dealt. 2 months of closing seemed to add a lot of value to Thornburg, I think it could make Peralta a somewhat of a valued trade peice too. I do think Wily would be a lights out reliever. Sure I guess...I don't really think he has the stuff to be that good in relief though. Maybe just relieving he finds a way to add velocity or something, but as it stands I wouldn't be too optimistic. Hard to predict it though.
  22. No thanks. He is garbage and needs a babysitter.
  23. Because when you talk about eating money it is almost always taken as something super negative. Lets say Braun is worth $10mil in surplus value. Sure we could just take the prospects that is worth, but if you could throw in $15mil and make that surplus value $25mil to acquire a Buehler is that a bad thing? I don't think anyone has ever vouched we eat millions of dollars just to move Braun for AAAA fluff. People want to eat money to get elite prospects that are impossible to acquire with money alone and takes a special situation to get. I am with you. I will eat some money if it causes a difference maker prospect to come back. Trading Braun is partially to free up the money to invest in other ways. Using it right away to nab a prospect like Buehler etc. wouldn't be too bad of a start.
