  1. This extension means so little it doesn't even need a story. This is how it has always been. Managers very seldomly go into the season on the last year of a deal. I'm not sure if there is a super valid reason for it other than to minimize any type of talk about the future of the manager. Heck it may just be a courtesy thing. The Brewers are sold on Craig Counsell managing this entire rebuild process. Give him a 3-year deal and if they come out looking like they are on the brink of contention in the next two years they will just kindly move him back to the front office for someone else.
  2. That is true he did play for the Bears.
  3. If said player was Jose De Leon then the deal was miles apart. Not only that, but later reports questioned how close it truly was. It may still be that close. The Dodgers could just be gauging the free agency market right now and if nothing attractive turns up there they will complete the Braun deal.
  4. No...stats are quite meaningless in the grand scheme of things for what you are referring to. Since we are talking about established prospects by the time they are at AAA what the scouts think is almost the entire equation. A poor showing in Colorado(where everyone knows pitchers struggle) isn't going to erase what they did in all the years prior.
  5. Brinson has a higher ceiling than Santana...pretty hard to argue. Both of them have a ton of offensive potential, but Brinson has far better defense and plays a primium position. Now whether you want to argue the likelyhood of him hitting that ceiling, fine, go ahead.
  6. If there was, he'd already be a Dodger. The deal was basically set. How do you know? How do you know?
  7. You can't follow the template for 2011 because we don't have a team like we did in 2010 to build on. Trading for Greinke/Marcum was nothing compared to what one would need to do to succeed in 2017.
  8. I thought of him too, but I would suggest against trying to field a team with only outfielders on the roster :-) Saddest part is the fact the three outfielders were HORRIBLE defensively.
  9. I never believe these type of comments. Of course there is a panic mode that they are in. They feel it. Will it matter? That will be played out over the next couple of weeks. If you listen to him it honestly sounds like there isn't much worry.
  10. Julius Peppers said, "It's just one game." No it has been 3 games now. Maybe they should panic and play with urgency because this "no worries" attitude isn't working.
  11. You can't simply factor in his current value and call it a day when analyzing this hypothetical. Actually...yes...yes I can. Hader's current value is that of a Top 50 prospect, with some sizable risk, and totally unproven. Trying to say he is going to be equal to Quintana at worst is inaccurate and wishful thinking. You are trying to put there value as if they are nice bets to hit those ceilings and in reality they will all likely fail to reach their ceilings and most prospects totally flop compared to their ceilings. Sorry but I am just looking at it from a trade value perspective. The value you are dreaming on in the future is not what is currently there. If you want that "major value" for any of those guys they best actually produce at the MLB level. Prospects are prospects...and lack major value.
  12. That's just from the big league club. I remember the Brewers had a couple guys on team Canada that were minor league nobody's. Since we are talking about the 2017 team I mentioned guys that were on the 2013 squad that are still with the Brewers. Throwing them out there as likely participants. They had 14 players in the 2013 tourney and 3 of which were scrubs(one with Canada). I am sure quite a few will participate, but hard to predict outside of the guys who have done it before. You could speculate any international guys we might have like Villar/Arcia, but who knows. Another 2013 Participant: Hiram Burgos
  13. If we actually had a decent chance to compete next year and even better chances in the years following I would sacrifice our second pick in a heartbeat to fill a black hole at 3B. However such scenario isn't really present.
  14. Major value? I like the dude, but he does not have major value. I'll remind you of that comment when he gets his full season's chance. Keon Broxton had nothing on the ceiling Santana has, and look at his emergence over the course of just one year. OK? What does that prove? I could say that about any player. He doesn't have major value right now. Could he with a full healthy season? Sure, but that really isn't saying much.
  15. Major value? I like the dude, but he does not have major value.
  16. 2013 Participants: Martin Maldonado- Puerto Rico Ryan Braun- USA
  17. Brinson/Hader plus more high quality prospects. 4 years of control is really good for a pitcher like him.
  18. Bold Prediction: Chris Carter stays and gets one of the mid season announced bobbleheads(star wars?). These promo schedules can actually say a lot about where certain players stand for next year. They meet up with the front office to go over ideas and the front office usually shoots down ideas related to players that could very well not be back. On another note glad the Brewers finally figured out what other teams did years ago...got away from all the bobbleheads.
  19. If they trade Braun and dump Kirk I could see it. Why Not? However I would bet against it and I would think he could find a more attractive job offer.
  20. These are adults not five year olds. I don't think you are going to trick them.
  21. The big problem with trading for Quintana is the fact you want to sell the farm before we even have a solid MLB ballclub. Selling the farm for a two year rental is something you can do once you have a solid/competive roster(like what we did pre-2011). If you do that now you are trading away half of our top prospects and we need them. This is something you would do in 2-3 years when the roster is built just needs fine touching.
  22. 1. You might get a competitive team out of that...but I'd say your odds are quite low. 2.Not even close to acquiring Quintana...not even remotely close. So that's a problem. Would probably take Brinson too. Then maybe it is at least on the ballpark. Though still likely requiring more.
  23. I guess we now know you didn't watch many games last year. They pretty much wore three uniforms last year for a huge chunk of the season: https://uniformlineup.com/milwaukee/mil-daily-uni-lineups/
  24. Defense is a disaster. Utter disaster. All the injuries to the secondary have made the defense a total joke. I know a lot of people want to blame Capers, but honestly I don't think this disaster is his schemes etc. You watch that defense play and they aren't one unit. They don't have the experience playing on the field together and it shows bad with all the blown assignments. You can hide one injury no biggie, but once 4 guys are missing you have lost too much. Matthews leadership isn't there, the secondary is being asked to do things they can't do, its a band aid job every week, and they are painfully prone to giving up massive plays. Even worse now the special teams is a disaster. Crosby missing kicks, muffed punt when they were getting back in it, and last weeks huge return. They still have a chance...heck the NFC is so sad they are still well in the Wild Card race.
