  1. So I imagine everyone knocking on Eaton not wanting to use stats must watch Eaton on a daily basis to know how good he is, right? Because if not how exactly are you judging him? Since we all know no one here watches White Sox games on a consistent basis we know this isn't the case. So how do you know he isn't very good, name recognition(or lack of)?
  2. oWAR(leaving out defense entirely) : 2014- 3.8 WINNER 2015- 5.4 WINNER 2016- 4.1 WINNER : 2014- 1.8 2015- 3.8 2016- 3.8
  3. Eaton is half the price and way younger. Ryan Braun is a bit better offensively, but Eaton makes up for any gap with his defense. Eaton is in his prime while Braun is likely to decline. I can't understand why anyone would even think about wanting Braun over Eaton. Honestly you can use any way to grade out the two players and Eaton>Braun. It is a no brainer in my opinion. Seems like the people getting paid to run baseball teams for real also think that too. We probably couldn't have even gotten Reynoldo Lopez for Braun, but Eaton got a Top 5 MLB Prospect plus Lopez plus a 1st round selection. Lets put 2 and 2 together.
  4. Because Braun is 28, has good defense, controllable for 5 years, and for an average salary under $10mil yearly right? Heck regarding WAR Easton had a higher WAR even before factoring in defensive value. Braun's value is no where even near that of Easton's. Not even close. I'll take Ryan Braun any day, all day on my team over Adam Eaton. And that's not to knock Eaton, he's just not in the same class of a ballplayer. You can have your opinion. Baseball GMs would disagree though.

  6. Not many teams are in a full blown rebuild with three near elite relievers that are experienced and controllable. What we had was a luxury and not all that common.
  7. Such notion never existed. Well maybe among people who didn't understand the situation it did. I doubt it. If he turns into a 5 ERA potato they won't care. They have so much money coming off the books soon it will be like all the deadweight contracts they have now they don't care about. If he gives them a good year that's all they need.
  8. Anything already paid is a deadweight loss and shouldn't be considered for future decisions. What they are paying for future salary should be considered and does take away from the great deal he is. Still pretty cheap though as only approx. $10mil should be left to pay.
  9. Sometimes something leaves and it is a good thing. We dodged a bullet that we traded him when we did. We don't need that problem around the team. I doubt the Rangers would let him go cheap and I don't see a reason to pay a big price for a guy we literally just traded to get prospects.
  10. You have to remember that 3 of those picks usually are to save bonus pool money so obviously right off the bat you already have a poor success rate.
  11. Actually that isn't too farfetched. I believe he has stated he prefers to live in Milwaukee and/or California. It's not the least likely...but pretty far fetched.
  12. It's possible that this link from Spotrac is not current. However, it does list the Nationals as a team Braun cannot block a trade to. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/ryan-braun-485/ That is the 2015 version. The Nationals are on the blocked teams list for 2016. We don't know the details of the 2017 list(which apparently has a change) which has already been set.
  13. The Nationals, as far as we know, are on his no trade list. It was 2015 in which they were left of his no trade list. That being said the Nationals could be team he could be bribed to consider.
  14. Uh, TPlush. What? How in the world can you even say this, while backing Puig's 1st 2 seasons that barely beat McCutchen's prior year and not even remotely in the same league of McCutchen's previous 4years, one that includes winning a MVP? How can we possibly overvalue McCutchen's value? And not cheap? well at 8WAR previous and MVP or the 6/7WAR and 3rd place MVP vote getting surrounding that season. Monetary-wise I'm sure just the 1 season like that completely pays off the remaining value he's got forthcoming. You're trolling with the bolded part. Must have forgot the part where I backed Puig being worth a Robles/Giolito. Also it isn't trolling, it is straight fact and a good way to show how downright garbage McCutchen was last year. Now put him in LF vs. CF and you gain 1-2 WAR, but not like that makes me want to give up a Robles/Giolito. Point is McCutchen didn't have just a little down year and it doesn't help it happened at the age of 30. He could just be one of those players quick to fall off the face of the earth. He only has two years left of control and I highly doubt any team gambles he bounces back to MVP levels giving up a Giolito/Robles. Because honestly even if he gives you 4 WAR that still makes giving up a Top 10 prospect a bit of an overpay.
  15. I feel they would just be better off sticking Calhoun at 2B so I am not really sure Arcia is a fit with the Dodgers. They would be on opposite ends of the defensive spectrum, but Calhoun's bat may overcome that liability. Better than giving up De Leon, Bellinger, and Calhoun for a player with a questionable bat(yes I realize Braun is apart of the trade).
  16. Yah, when I heard Giolito/Robles were being offered I figured the Nationals were going to get him. Considering that deal also included Lopez I would have easily picked that offer.
  17. The difference between Villar and Thornburg is Jonathan Villar is controllable an extra year which makes him a lot more likely to be around for a competitive team. I actually think Jonathan Villar is a pretty strong extension candidate with another good half year/full year. They could sign him to a three year deal and lock in 1-2 FA years with options or make it a 4-5 year deal. That still allows him to hit the FA market at 30 or 31 years old. Not saying they will or should, but it just shows Jonathan Villar is more likely to be a piece of puzzle. Thornburg is a reliever and only available for three more years. Not exactly a guy you really want to have around or extend making $10mil+. Pretty important to build a bullpen within and not spend a ton of money on it. I really like Thornburg and think he is a legit backend reliever(though AL East stats may not reflect that the best now). However I don't really want to pay him boatloads of money and take on the risk most relievers have.
  18. Scooter doesn't have the arm strength for SS or 3B. Or the range to play CF. Could he play LF? Probably. But that's a pretty weak bat for LF. People hated Khris Davis in LF...Gennett? Haha oh I would love it just to see the reaction. Horrible defense and a horrible bat.
  19. I am not even considering trading Arcia/Villar until after the 2017 season. Right now they are valuable pieces of the future who aren't blocking anyone.
  20. I wish we could pay a $40mil+ tax to add someone and then trade him away haha. We can barely afford to hand out $40mil contracts.
  21. I feel they would just be better off sticking Calhoun at 2B so I am not really sure Arcia is a fit with the Dodgers.
  22. Highly doubtful. Though that is more a compliment to Thornburg than a knock on Pennington.
  23. Unless you are going to get an elite prospect back it doesn't make any sense. So unless that phantom 1 for 1 trade people always like to think about has the opportunity to happen Arcia is not moving. We are at least a year from having a middle infield problem.
