    He's 23, and honestly, if he's out of Brevard County, I think he'll prove to be a solid option. Brevard County is a death trap for hitters. Being at Brevard County is not an excuse to hit .248/.273/.333...with those kind of stats he will never get out of Brevard. He did well at A ball at 23 years old...that is nothing. Add on his defense is nothing special what exactly gets one excited about him? Not MLB caliber stuff right there.

    Hmm that's an interesting statement. Do you by chance know the last Top 5 college bat to start at A+? It was Christian Colin...in 2010. So that seems weird no team ever does what should be done. Also no, the average age is nearly 23 for A+.

    Gennett and two lottery ticket type players are not going to convince the Dodgers or any team for that matter include an elite prospect. Trading lots of garbage doesn't get you quality. Quality for Quality. Put Thornburg or Villar in a deal and suddenly you can start talking about making a return increase.

    I was trying to state that there is multiple ways teams see the Braun situation. Probably did a poor job explaining myself but that it's not as simple as no one wants Braun. Lots of teams do. But there are lots of teams not in the position to go get him whether it be because lack or resources or a lack of places to play him it just has to be the perfect fit for a guy with $80 on the books. The Dodgers seem to be that team (right now) but who knows come this off season depending on what Puig does for the remainder of the season for them. Really simply put there is hurdle after hurdle to jump over to get a deal done. By the time every team tries to jump over each hurdle there are maybe 2-3 that can realistically pull off a trade. Money is a problem for some, no trade clause for some, age some, contract length some, and not a fit for some, price to high for some. At face value I am sure every team would love Braun. Maybe some teams would want him at $80mil, but prefer to get him for less so don't put in a claim. Maybe? Maybe. I can't imagine there are many that do want him for $80mil though. Braves I guess did want him for salary dump purposes so maybe they didn't bother for a claim because Braun already said no to them. Maybe there were other teams he specifically said no to. Regardless to me it seems like Dodgers or bust. Possible someone else could make a play but I doubt it.

    I think it is a coincidence to be honest and not anything to do with an extra day of rest. It is something interesting that teams never really attempt in a full season, but seeing all of our pitchers are of similar talent level maybe an extra day of rest could help? I wouldn't be against such a move if they wanted to try it. The only thing that doesn't work is if you have an elite ace type pitcher and/or a good number two. At that point a six man rotation doesn't make a ton of sense. Regardless this has been WAY too small of a sample size to connect it with the extra man/rest. One would have to do this for months and probably a whole year to see any potential effects. I always wonder if that extra rest will keep pitchers fresh down the stretch which could be huge in a race. The biggest issue is the fact you are losing a bullpen arm to insert an extra starter and that is probably why it isn't done outside of September. That is the only issue is see with it.

    Thornburg-most value of anyone Garza Peralta Torres Maldonado Ones you listed Really anyone on this team minus Arcia, Broxton, Santana, and Villar. Rest are fair game in my opinion. These are probably the only four guys that are very unlikely to be moved. Regarding Carter I agree he probably has little value and is probably just going to return for enjoyment to watch. He is a fun dude to watch sometimes. His market really just depends on the need. If there is a team out there dying to get power and has a black hole at 1B/DH I wouldn't be surprised if we get a small return for him.

    Most of these sports have world championships every year. The Olympics are no world cup, but it is still a huge tournament likewise for tennis, golf, etc. I don't get putting basketball or hockey in that comparison though. Both of those sports don't play internationally outside of the Olympics. Winning the Olympics is a lot different for them. Less important, but still a big deal.

    No it isn't sustainable...not even close. But he has enough room to regress that he could still be serviceable enough to trade for something of value. Considering we got him for nothing that sounds great. Actually I feel Stearns will trade him this winter, but that is just my hunch. Wouldn't be surprised either way.

    Anyone who thought we were getting a prospect similar to Brinson/Ortiz as the PTBNL missed taking their grain of salt somewhere along the line as there were no prospects left in the TEX system who were similar to Brinson/Ortiz. Doesn't matter. Cordell isn't even in the same dimension as Brinson/Ortiz. Being wrong is fine, but those reports about the PTBNL were a load of BS and not even close.

    I did a little research to show pitchers around where we will pick. I am going to list pitchers selected between 7-16 since that is around where we will pick and right after. 2006: Clayton Kershaw Tim Lincecum (My god) Max Scherzer 2007: Madison Bumgarner 2008: None 2009: None 2010: Matt Harvey Chris Sale 2011: Jose Fernandez 2012: Lucas Giolito One thing to note the Top 5 is not some kind of pitching heaven. Actually it always seems to be a nightmare to pick a pitcher Top 5. In the same time frame above the Top 5 picks have produced 3 ace pitchers. ALL of them were selected #1 overall...ALL. Since 2006 picks 2-5 have produced ZERO ace type pitchers. A lot of that has to do with teams not drafting many pitchers in the Top 5, but let me tell you there are a ton of busts in the Top 5 too. Regardless the point is most elite pitchers tend to go after the Top 5 picks and there is very likely to be a highly rated one that will end up an ace on the board when we pick. However you gotta pick the right one...that is the hard part.

    Well it is a big spot in the game and we sent out our best pitcher. Its like asking why we would send Braun to pinch hit with the winning run on 3rd. Why would you not? Because of 2 LHB in a row coming up. I would of rather had them face a guy they'd never seen before in Suter than Thornburg. And not to say Suter would have gotten them out but they proceeded to double and walk off of Thornburg. Ahh I see Suter fan. Bringing in a lefty to face a lefty is always a plausible option. Except when one of your other options is Tyler Thornburg. Go check out Thornburg's stats vs. lefties this year and tell me if you would still put Suter in.

    Brew4U said there was no chance to get him for just his contract and every team knew this. That means there is no risk for claiming him. So while what you are saying is true, for the argument he was replying to it doesn't apply. There's always a chance. Which is why team stay away from making claims in players with high salaries. That was my point with the poker statement. No ones going to risk it unless they have a spot for him on a competing team and have the money laying around for the next 5-6 years to pay him. They're not just going to block teams. It's not a guy making 500k. Alright so first is was as simple as "There is no chance the Brewers would give him away for nothing so teams wouldn't even bother claiming him." and now there is a chance so that is why no team claimed him. I am glad you have backed away from your original reason to something more logical.

    Every year a team selects a good pitcher outside the first five picks. The problem isn't where you pick, but having a good scouting department.

    I have, extensively, and while he definitely stands out, he didn't look like Mike Trout or Byron Buxton I mean...obviously he isn't a Trout or a Buxton. Just comparing him to the typical Single-A competition he definitely stands out. I guess I wasn't trying to say he was the next great thing in baseball. I do however think he is an easy Top 100 prospect probably Top 75 guy. Hopefully he can iron out the streaky nature.

    Watch Isan Diaz in person. Defensively and offensively he dominated Single-A. He already looks like an MLB player the way he plays. Can't imagine how he is going to look in a few years with more maturing and experience. Reminds me a lot of Orlando Arcia when he was back in Single-A you could just see the potential and could tell he was about to break out. Though I guess Diaz already sort of did that this year.

    Ehh I don't particularly like it when people make this claim. It is easy to say that until he is less selective and his OBP% goes from .350 to .310. Personally I will take a guy being selective and not jumping on fastballs which in a lot of cases end up as outs. Less selective means more first pitch outs happen and those really hurt. Unless you know you can crush them every time it just isn't worth it. I don't think Santana is the kind of hitter to capitalize enough to make it worth it.

    I thought there was no chance we would let him go for salary relief and it was so obvious no one would even attempt to claim him? hmm...can't have both. If it is that obvious and there is no chance there is no poker or no concern he will be dumped on you. No Braun at $15mil is pretty dang cheap. Honestly $15mil is pretty cheap in general as mid rotation guys get that. Hence why the Dodgers would give up Puig plus more to get him. Even though the D Backs or other teams may not be competing this year they might try next year(D Backs for sure). If I was the D Backs I would block the Dodgers from having a chance at Braun every chance I get. You are right it may just delay the trade till the winter or maybe another team swoops in and steals Braun away this winter or the Brewers hold onto him. Mission accomplished for the D Backs right? The thing is no one wants Braun or they don't want Braun for $20mil a year. Surely not because they thought the Brewers wouldn't let him go for nothing. That is not a reason to not put in a claim. Neither is being on his no-trade list. If that was the case why did the Indians try to trade for Lucroy? Why did the Braves try to get Braun? How did we get K-Rod?

    As most define it: Plate Discipline- Taking walks and having a nice difference between OBP and AVG. Eye at plate/Contact- How much you strike out or swing/misses. Though I feel like patience at the plate may be a more accurate way to describe what Santana does.
