  1. I absolutely hate telemarketers. Except when I am bored and am doing nothing. Then I will usually ask a bunch of questions, sound, interested, and as they think they are closing a deal I will usually mention I don't own a house making the whole thing not even make sense.
  2. You go on win streak and losing streaks...it is how the game works.
  3. McCarthy would basically be the money the Brewers have to eat($23mil). I guess there is a little potential he can pitch well and be flipped to save some of that money or get prospects, but I'd just assume not. He would be much like when we took on Aaron Hill. Puig has solid value and I'd guess the two minor leaguers are Top 10 organizational prospects. If they aren't I probably wouldn't take that deal and I'm not someone emotionally attached to Braun like a lot are. In such a trade we would be taking on a ton of money. Puig is a nice buy low, but I'd need two more promising players .
  4. It wasn't good base running by Elmore. Was it horrible? Maybe not, but he should know that was going to fall. That was a line drive and most guys know right away to go.
  5. Why does Sedar have a job? Is he just a fan favorite so we keep him? Guy is a total idiot.
  6. People are referring to a longer time frame when saying "we always finish strong". It's definitely directed at a 15+ game stretch minimum. So let's take 2013... People are mad because we played over heads at the end of the season. However were those same people upset when we play to a miserable 6-22? You take out that month and we actually played over .500. If we played like we did the rest of the season in May our pick would have been A LOT worse. It doesn't matter if they historically play well at the end or not. Picking and choosing a month, a week, or any other time frame is just silly. Getting mad that we played over our heads towards the end to get a worse draft position is not right. Teams play over/under their heads all season. Some at the start and some at the end. While one can point to a good September record this year one could just counter that with the brutal August that was us playing under our potential. I guess what annoys me more is how people get the idea we robbed ourselves of a better draft pick. To me you look at the 162 game record. We lost 90...did we perform like a 90 loss team? Yep. Ok so I don't see the problem. What do people want the Brewers to do? Go to the plate with pool noodles at the end of the season?
  7. Also a mention that the Braves got close enough Chipper Jones was trying to persuade Braun to waive his no-trade clause. A trade is plausible, but still hard. The Dodgers are the only interested team that isn't on the no trade list. If one can't work out there I'm not sure he can be traded. Hard to really gauge an opinion on the near trade not knowing who the minor leaguers were and beyond the return what the Brewers would do with the saved money. In my opinion it goes beyond just the player return because we would save a ton of money. What they do with that can make an iffy player return a lot better.
  8. The game was unplanned, middle of the week, and just as meaningless as any other game this season. It is minor league baseball. When you make the playoffs people don't start running in the streets taking off work to go. I'm still a little surprised since they made tickets free, but in general not too shocked. Going to a MiLB game is usually something planned in advanced and not typically gone to for the on the field product.
  9. The Brewers lose 2 more games (maybe even just 1?), they pick two spots higher. It doesn't take a "big hot streak" to lose important draft position. That isn't what the myth is though. It is that we play really well and over what we had done all season. Adding onto that the poster who just recently mentioned it said we were already starting to do what we do every year. So he is obviously is talking about a month long streak not some kind of 6-2 to end the season. It isn't so much the drop in draft position people complain about, but the fact we play extremely well AND drop in draft position. However history says we don't play that well.
  10. You don't have to if you don't want. He has top notch range and it's hard to argue that.
  11. So I hear people every day preach how we always go on this big hot streak to close out the year ruining our draft position and I decided to take a look. I did not list the record in a year we competed because who cares about draft position in those years...no one. 2015 (13-15): Nope doesn't follow the myth. 2014 (9-17): Really doesn't follow the myth. 2013 (15-12): Ok record but not far of the .500 mark they played the entire year if you take out the miserable 6-22 May record. 2012: We were competing 2011: We were competing 2010 (15-15): A .500 ball club that played .500 ball the last month. 2009 (16-16): A .500 ball club that played .500 ball the last month. 2008: We were competing 2007: We were competing I am so sick of hearing about how we always tear it up at the end to ruin our draft position. History shows we actually don't do that and usually play just like we have the majority of the year. If you are wondering, no, adding in August doesn't really change anything. I was into the the late 20th century before I gave up looking for a year where we a) weren't competing and b) had a stellar finish to kill our draft position.
  12. Feel free to read up on it. To be honest for the most part I think it is complete garbage and the time put into it was wasted time. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-primer-on-a-new-and-improved-katoh/
  13. I have heard many over the months say Villar is absolutely terrible on defense making too many errors. Villar's fielding % this year is .965 and Orlando Arcia for his career at SS .966 However I doubt we will ever hear about Arcia making too many errors and being terrible at defense.
  14. The right match one could get a Top 25 prospect for Villar. The guys has mashed all season long. I bet scouts gush over what Villar does every day. Hits the ball hard consistently and never had an extended slump. A 4+ WAR player with four years of super cheap control. You still need to find the right match, but Villar definitely has that kind of value potential.
  15. You can't really compare him to Lucroy. We signed Lucroy pretty early on and got lucky. I say lucky because when we extended him before he broke out. The did it to lock up a passable young catcher long term so we could stop cycling through a bunch of old washed up catchers. Actually many fans and experts thought it was a questionable deal. Anyway moral of the story Lucroy was just an average joe when he signed and Villar has put up All Star worthy numbers. I think 6/$40mil would be too low is you ask me. That is what they offered Jean Segura after one year and I would argue Jonathan Villar has been more impressive. Not only that, but the Segura deal only bought out one year of free agency and a 6 year deal with Villar would be buying out 2 years of free agency. Now it gets a bit tricky because Segura would have gone through arby as a SS and Villar will not so that effects the projected arby numbers. The Segura offer was also many years ago and inflation might raise that figure alone. I wonder if the Brewers might be better off with a lower risk extension that goes through the arbitration years and we can have a couple options that are closer to perceived market value just so we can keep him around if we want when that time comes.
  16. I would be pretty comfortable locking up Villar to a 6 year deal if he wanted to take the plunge on that. Maybe a smaller deal that is very team friendly. Bottom line though Villar is a legit bat. That guy consistently has hammered the ball all year. Any deal would be slightly team friendly so even if he takes a small step back next year we still look great. 25 year old infielder with great OBP skills, doubles power, homerun power, switch hitter, and serious speed? Sign me up. There is nothing about Villar that would concern you he might be due for a regression or can't handle a high BABIP(maybe not nearly .400 though). Look up his splits they are jaw dropping. Hard to find someone so even across the board with no weak spots. There is no need to wait on Villar if he is open to it. The only thing to note value wise is the fact he won't be playing SS for us and instead(likely) 2B. Villar probably wants to value himself as a SS while the Brewers will look at him as a 2B in contract talks.
  17. Perez has a 22.6% strikeout rate for 2016. His career rate is 22%. Yup I was looking at inaccurate data.
  18. Jonathan Villar is not a terrible defender at SS...well maybe if all you look at is errors at which point I guess any argument is a lost cause. Villar has a very strong arm and has great range. At worst he is a slightly below average defender at SS. His Range Factor is Top 3 in the NL, but has the most errors. In my opinion they cancel each other out for the most part. If anything I would prefer a guy having lots of range making errors than a guy with no range and making 10 less errors.
  19. Striking out in 33% of your ABs really doesn't help matters.
  20. He had one bad month. He has an extremely long leash. Obviously if he continues a 8ERA he would be eventually. However that is unlikely. Doubt it. Suter doesn't project well at all. He would have to perform in a big sample size to generate interest. Right now he has no track record and I don't see teams giving up any kind of value for him.
  21. Nelson is not going to be optioned. He has had an up and down year, but still shows a lot of promise. Chase Anderson? Sure. I think he will start in the rotation, but if he can't do better he will probably get replaced by one of our bigger pitching prospects if/when they are ready. Brent Suter should be happy if he leaves spring training with a bullpen spot. If he can do that he could be the one to get spot starts or fill in when someone goes on the DL. Prove yourself in that roll and maybe he could get a chance to get a more extended look in the rotation. The thing is we have way better and more exciting options for the rotation that project 100x better than Suter. It's pretty much a steep uphill battle for him no matter the role.
  22. Won't even waste my time thinking about what he is worth because the Brewers would never consider it. Unless of course the return was absolutely ridiculous. The Brewers aren't going to be more likely to trade Arcia because Villar has a great season. They have to chance to have a super star at the most premium position. That is simply not the kind of player/prospect you trade away in a position like ours. They can slide Villar over to 2B it isn't like we don't have room for him.
  23. It is what it is at the end of the day. I know people are going to hate it if we have a nice September, but every team has it's ups and downs during the year. You have to look at the big picture. It's not going to bother me if we have a nice September and our draft position slides. That's how baseball works. Currently we sit in the #10 spot. Our Pathagorean W-L is one game better, we are losing more than preseason projections, and currently using advanced statistics we are the 7th worst team. It isn't like our production on the field doesn't match our record. We have the amount of wins we should have.
  24. The problem is at first there is no publicity gain. He will likely not be in big league spring training and next year he would almost surely start out in Arizona rookie ball. He would have to make it to A ball to where pleasing an affiliate might do something for them. In rookie ball attendance boosts don't have any possible positive effects for the Mets. It's not like they are trying to lure themselves into a better location in rookie ball. The other thing is it isnt like they can put him in big league camp and run ridiculous promos/merchandise to get extra money. If he isn't on the 40 man he hasn't signed any kind of licensing agreement.
