  1. Top 5? Top 5...? He isn't even Top 20 this year and I doubt it gets much better over the next 4 years. Include some defense and he is outside the Top 50.
  2. He is better than Braun at 3B. Way more range. Braun racked up errors and had little range.
  3. The way he acted and basically accused other's of botching the test he took when caught.. While other players have claimed ignorance as to how they took a banned substance, Braun went after a person... I am getting tired of reading this. The person who collected the sample did not follow the agreed upon process between the MLB and the MLBPA. So Braun had every right to go after him and was justified in doing so. Legally the MLB should have thrown this out before it even became public as the chain of custody for the samples did not follow the guidelines. No he really didn't have every right to go after the guy and question his character etc. like he did. Braun knew he cheated himself. Braun was willing to make other people look bad to save his own butt. Braun should have just accepted his own suspension and there should have never been any appeal. The argument the chain of custody was broken may be true, but for it to effect the sample is a joke. Nothing happened to the sample and he followed all protocol if a FedEx was not open. However one was open so Braun got off the hook. It all doesn't matter though because I don't think that is why Braun is so hated over others it is just a piece to the hate puzzle. He is hated so much because he said it was false and he went on for months about it. Then he had that speech during spring training after he won. While most PED users lie and say "I have no idea how this happened" only Braun had some long drawn out lie that lasted a good year. Once it was found out he really did cheat he looked like a total douche.
  4. Still not all that impressed with Arcia so far, but not really that concerned after 85 ABs. Still looks pretty lost at the plate swinging at pitches he shouldn't even take the bat off his shoulder for.
  5. Always. That's why they always clear. Probably the only reason he was claimed is the fact he was on the right side of 30 and the contract wasn't that big. From a performance stand point the White Sox didn't do too bad. He provided them with two great seasons and one solid one which is hard to complain about. However they never made it anywhere with him and they didn't trade him for much when they got rid of him.
  6. Pretty sure the Brewers deactivated him for a day and then reinstated him. It might have been more than one day, but I don't think he missed any starts.
  7. His K-rate is misleading if you ask me. Once he climbs the ladder it will likely start to drop off since his stuff isn't good enough to fool advanced hitters and with that most of his stats with go the wrong way too. He is a nothing special, but still a MLB potential prospect if you ask me. Nothing I would get excited about.
  8. Not if they are a great deal like a lot try to preach on here. I take this as proof we need to pick up money to get any good prospects back. Every team had a shot to at least attempt to add Braun by just taking his contract and no team did so. While things might and probably will be better on the Braun trade market this off season I highly doubt teams are suddenly going to pony up great prospects and take on the entire contract.
  9. Was the first baseman's foot even on the base? Sure doesn't look like it.
  10. From my TV watching eye it seems like Maldonado is more "in the game" than Lucroy ever was. You constantly see Martin barking out orders to the infield, going to the mound, and throwing to bases. Lucroy was very low key and it doesn't mean he wasn't a leader but just from what you see on TV Martin looks like he's more in control than Lucroy ever was. Yah I feel like Lucroy prioritized his offensive game over being a game manager. Maldonado is a lot more passionate about perfecting his defense.
  11. No...unless he does it so much the commish uses his power to give out a punishment.
  12. No way MLB players are going to be allowed to participate. It makes no sense for anyone involved. I also highly doubt any MiLB players would be allowed either. I am too young to remember what they did in the past, but I imagine it will be all amateur players. I could see players that just got drafted playing too if they wanted. I think it is great and will enjoy watching it, but obviously the US won't get far not being able to use their best talent.
  13. I was surprised someone making virtually league minimum even considered such a gesture.
  14. That seems excessive. Glad he decided to spend his money elsewhere. It was a full page advertisement which seems right. A lot of people read that paper and the people who view an entire page advertisement is probably a lot higher than a smaller advertisement.
  15. Yes but lets look at this issue with Jeffress specifically. Because if we compare this situation to the Sabathia trade there is no reason to start panicking. That trade was not done last minute and the player we gave up didn't depend on anything specifically tied to Sabathia. I only see two issues here: 1) If the player we get depends on whether or not Jeffress gets in trouble.<> Very unlikely if even possible. 2) It depends on how many games Jeffress appears in.<> In this situation it doesn't really even matter because they are activating him tomorrow and the likelihood of some lengthy suspension is very unlikely. It would also be pretty dumb if Stearns agreed to take a player based on how many games a reliever plays in. What he does after the trade is not our problem. This trade was also for two players not one so it isn't like all the value they get is from Jeffress. From everything I have heard the only reason there is a PTBNL is due to the fact they didn't have time to iron out the last player(likely due to physicals). In my opinion Stearns is now just using the system to his advantage and waiting till the end of the minor league season in case one blows out an elbow or ACL. I think people are trying to over complicate the PTBNL just because there are multiple names. It probably consists of who Stearns wants and two lesser guys in case doomsday happens with the first player. Honestly I don't even think the player he wants really has injury concerns. He just has the luxury of waiting in case something does pop up.
  16. Good question, but I would say, much later. He's drawn plenty of walks in his minors career so I'd chalk the fact that he's not up to nothing more than a small sample , though you'd figure it would have happened by now after 50 some ABs. Teams will start pitching carefully to him and the walks will come naturally. For now, I'll take the aggressiveness. Big question is how in the heck was he only hitting .237 before the trade? He had an injury that sidelined him for most of June and if I remember right I think he was brought back quickly still not 100%...or it was that he wasn't 100% to start the year and they finally DLed him. Regardless he was dealing with injuries for the Rangers this year and that probably messed him up. Just prior to being traded he actually went on a tear.
  17. Yah it's dissapointing as it seemed he had changed and was a great story. Unfortunately it appears not a single thing has changed. I am sure he was drove drunk many times before just never got caught. I am not sure what made me sick more...the fact he nearly hit another car multiple times or the fact he literally handed over his Rangers ID thinking he was entitled to something. At this point very glad he is gone and someone else's problem. Like always though I hope he can change his ways. I never wish bad things on people who make mistakes, but I sure won't be sorry for him every time he does something stupid.
  18. Like many aspects of life a social change can lead to a decision you might not have made in the past. Fortunately Jeffress was caught and will pay for his poor choices. I am glad Jeffress is OK, but more importantly everyone else on the road that morning as sometimes others suffer more for selfish decisions like this. Hopefully Jeffress learns you only get so many second chances in life and as a professional athlete he is lucky to get more than any typical person would. I doubt he isn't taking the trade well. The problem is a change of environment and people around him. Nothing the Rangers could realistically avoid unless they put him on a leash 24/7. At the end of the day Jeffress is an adult.
  19. Man when was the last time the Brewers had 3 guys steal 30 in a season? 40? Heck they could have 3 guys steal 50 bases next year(Villar, Broxton, and longer shot Perez).
  20. The Brewers didn't sell low on Jean Segura. Holding onto him would have done nothing. It was clear he sucked hear and we were never going to fix him. I am glad he is have a nice season, but it is a fluke. I don't think he can sustain a .360 BABIP or anywhere close to it every year. It will regress and average at best Segura will be back. I would still take Isan Diaz for Jean Segura straight up today. Isan Diaz should be a Top 100 prospect around the baseball world after the season. Another solid season after this one and he will be flying up lists just like Arcia did. If he isn't on a list they have never seen him play. The kid can do it all well.
  21. He is swinging a good bat and that probably has a lot to do with it. When you are in the zone you aren't really watching many pitches. I'd be a lot more concerned if he was striking out a lot, but he really isn't. He is putting the ball in play so no need to panic.
  22. And then trade him for a haul next offseason. Broxton allows the Brewers to keep Brinson down to start next year. It also allows the team to get a better view of Santana. If Broxton keeps it up, and if Brinson is as good as hoped, and if Santana proves himself to be a good MLB regular, then it allows us to do something with Braun (trade him or move him to 1B). That's a lot of "ifs," so for right now, I'm happy to see Broxton doing well, and to see Santana healthy. Let the rest play itself out, but I'd highly doubt that Broxton will be traded away if he continues to play well. Hence why I said next offseason. It is very likely at some point we are going to have more outfielders than there are spots. I personally would prefer to trade one of the proven guys to maximize the return and roll the dice on the prospect that needs a spot. If you trade away the prospect instead that is going to lessen the return. Less risk that way, but lessen the potential reward. I'm just guessing if it comes down to Keon or Domingo and they both end up as slightly above average offensively you keep Domingo since he provides more power. Something we lack right now in the young guys and prospects. Of course if Keon is significantly better you keep him.
  23. Hernan Perez is exactly what he is right now at best...a 100 OPS+ player or league average. Nothing special in my opinion. His future with this team is likely a utility player that can come off the bench with some power and speed.
  24. Nah, not fouled. Replay on bat checking across half the plate pretty obvious he went. The ball clearly changed direction before it hit the ground meaning it hit the bat. And the plate is not what determines a swing or not. In fact, there are no written rules for what determines a strike on a check swing. Yup I agree...pretty sure he fouled that off. Schroeder was quick to write it off as not a foul like usual so we didn't get more replays. Its not that noticeable because Gennett was pulling the bat back and angled the barrel toward the catcher. To me it looked like the ball hit toward the end of the bat.
  25. I don't think anyone really does. Something to talk about.
