  1. I'd much rather get a second arm rather than a guy like Diaz. If we do end up with a second position prospect, I'd much prefer it to be Mejia. Why not a fan of Diaz? Seems like he could hit for a high average, provide good OBP% skills, and play above average defense. He hasen't shown too much power, but the rest of his game is pretty nice. Not to mention he sounds like he is pretty versatile with the ability to play everything, but SS. I would not mind him as a secondary piece.
  2. Indians offer is the worst in my opinion. I don't like Bradley and the other two aren't super special to make up for it. Next is the Rangers. It really came down to which pitcher I liked more Ortiz or Paulino. Obviously I prefer Paulino. Astros...see above. Mostly due to Paulino being my preference. And Lucroy goes to the RED SOX. I usually want multiple high upside guys even if they are farther from the majors. However, in this case all the other deals didn't feel like they had enough high upside players so I would go with the uber elite prospect Devers. That being said I hope one of the other teams would up their offers because I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket.
  3. Jaren Kendall is also a Wisconsin native. I also agree we will likely pick Top 5 at the least if we trade Lucroy, Torres, and at least one of Jeffress/Smith. Killing that bullpen will do more harm than one would expect. Most high school guys will sign if drafted in the first two rounds. Usually that is enough money to not try and risk going to college. It's also notable they get free college even if they do sign if they want it. The only downside is the fact that it may no be to a sweet school where your scholarship was from. If you got a scholarship to a big time academic school like UCLA etc. you would likely lose your chance at an incredible education if you can't get in without baseball.
  4. The getting picked off thing is a little more complicated. The lead you can take is different for every pitcher you face. So it's not like we can just say, " Hey Villar don't go past this point." That could just lead to too small of leads and more times getting caught stealing. It really is a judgement thing on Villar's part. MAYBE you could get a first base coach to help him, but that isn't the easiest thing to do mid-game. I don't know how many times he has been picked off(too many), but those giant leads may be what is getting him so many SBs. So if you limit his leads it may also have a negative effect.
  5. Problem is for a lot of teams Lucroy isn't priority #1 and may be a fallback option. The Rangers would much prefer a big time starter and if the get that unlikely they have interest in obtaining Lucroy. Stearns probably can't get a team to finalize on Lucroy when their preferences have yet to be traded or those negotiations have yet to break down. I'm sure Stearns would love to be hitting the accept button right now as much as anyone else. It's just not available yet.
  6. Option 2 and by a decent margin. I like Zimmer a lot, but Option 2 provides a ton of upside. Option 2 also includes three high upside pitcher we could really use and a high upside catcher that has the defense to stick at catcher which is something else we really lack. Zimmer and Frazier both have holes in their game and because of that both aren't really "can't miss" prospects. I also can't ignore the depth we have at the OF position. For those reasons I will go with the deal that gives me three pitchers and a catcher all with considerable upside.
  7. We are on the right track in the fact we could get a Zimmer/Gallo, but the depth of any trade may be less than some throw out there.
  8. He is a risk but I bet a team woul go 5 years and $17annually. Assuming he was totally healthy the rest of the year. He is a risk, but hey FA is ridiculous most of the time.
  9. Then you run into the problem of teams blocking a trade. We all know the Brewers won't just salary dump him so I imagine a team would claim him just so another team couldn't.
  10. Or maybe they see Gallo as a guy who won't make a big impact immediately? Not everyone is a rookie all star. Also maybe Profar is just simply a way better hitter right now.
  11. I try not to think that way because I don't think it is that simple. A month or two ago Devers looked horrible and now he is smoking hot with a crisp stat line. Things can turn on a dime and prospects have down years. Age, level, league, etc. etc. all come into play and can effect a player's performance. Obviously it feels good to get a top prospect who is mashing, but I don't think that should be a requirement. At the same time the Rangers prospect have been REALLY bad at the top. That should give any team pause. It is all about evaluating why they are struggling and if it is a long term worry or fixable.
  12. I am guessing not many teams will be too interested in Carter looking at his road stats. Pretty obvious he has enjoyed his time hitting in the friendly confines of Miller Park. He is nothing more than a power DH who won't give much in the form of an average. I'd rather hold onto him because he is pretty fun to watch. Gotta have something interesting on the team.
  13. Yah no thanks I would not want Vogelbach. His defense is a total disaster and he is slower than a tortoise walking in molasses with a semi tied to it. He would have to really destroy the league with the bat to be an above average non DH player. I am talking 4 WAR player with the bat alone because after you take into account his defense and base running he will be lucky to have 2 WAR overall.
  14. There just isn't a lot of motivation to move Braun unless we get an incredible package for him. I am sure the Brewers would love to save $80mil or whatever, but not that badly. Something no one mentions, but might be a big reason they don't feel the need to trade him is the lack of impact he will have on the payroll. He is our only commitment long term that is expensive. Unless we go on some $500mil shopping spree here in the next few years I doubt his contract limits from doing anything. If you ask me we shouldn't be maxing out our payroll until after 2020. At that point guys like Davies/Nelson/Villar could be on extensions making big money, we probably signed a couple nice free agents, and some young guys are in arbitration. Before then we will have a lot of cheap controllable guys or any FAs we sign can easily have their contract backloaded a bit until Braun is off the books.
  15. I remember previously that is what the Brewers were looking for from Texas.
  16. Slow day? Before yesterday we heard pretty much nothing. There has been a lot on rumors the last couple days. Nothing crazy, but it isn't too close to the deadline yet.
  17. Nobody should listen to Cameron for player values. Just going to keep bringing it up but last year he said we should trade Segura to the Padres for Despaigne and Maurer. Just doesn't grasp the needs of teams and values of players at all. You know people always bring up that as being a horrible deal proposal, but please explain how that was worse than what we actually traded him for. We basically bought Isan Diaz and then traded Segura for Anderson. Oh wait don't forget we had to throw in Tyler Wagner to get that done. Jean Segura was just about worthless. That is what Cameron proposed and really what we got in the end was not much better.
  18. Then again I might take less(not really) just to watch the post trade press conference. "So Lucroy I know you wanted to play for a contender...how do you feel about going to the worst team in baseball?" PRICELESS
  19. I don't really like the Braves system. Newcomb and his control scares me, Albies has zero power and would have to play 2B for us(not a huge fan of his bat), and that leaves Allard as the top player in their system to get. He is nice, but as the centerpiece? We could probably do better. I would need Newcomb, Allard, and more. The more being quality stuff not low minor lottery tickets. Again because I am not huge on Newcomb and I bet other teams could do better than a Braves package.
  20. The Braves interest in Lucroy means two things: 1. They aren't viewing Lucroy as a player controllable 1.5 more years. They would either demand an extension before a trade is finalized or do everything to extend him after. They wouldn't let him touch FA. 2. They are planning more major trades and/or a shopping spree in the offseason. Obviously Lucroy alone doesn't put them over the top. It makes sense because they can't wait till the offseason where all their other hypothetical moves would take place. To get Lucroy you do it now or it will be too late come December. Of course I wouldn't sell the farm and spend a lot of money in one calendar year on a team that bad, but if they want to? Go right ahead.
  21. Yup it was pretty awesome having a homegrown elite catcher. So many teams. trot out pure garbage it was pretty cool having one that was so good. On the baseball field he was something else.
  22. It may not sound like Lucroy is getting much interest or may not be traded, but that is because teams are still playing musical chairs. The sellers are asking for the moon and the buyers are being cheap or they are acting like they don't really need the player that badly. Next week teams get down to business and stop beating around the bush.
  23. They have wanted a long term catcher for the past 2 years or so. The only reason they would be interested in Lucroy is if a contract extension was worked out before a trade obviously. Very unlikely, but you never know.
  24. You are forgetting Frazier is a very good CFer and much faster. On the other hand Zimmer is destined for a corner spot and not as much of a basestealer. You can't just compare their offensive numbers when one plays a way more premium position. Zimmer appears to be much faster and more likely to stick in cf from what I've read. Had them backwards! That is what I meant!
