  1. Corey Ray with an XBH!
  2. I must have missed the report where Villar is stealing 3rd base on his own to pad stats, have glory, and make money. Do we have a link to this issue.
  3. Gurriel is going to play 3B and if called up Bregman can play DH mainly and occasionally 3B/SS. Sure Gattis won't have an everyday spot, but he has sucked this year. AJ Reed plays 1B.
  4. I forgot about his options. If he was only controllable 1.5 years they probably wouldn't.
  5. True he has said all along that he wants to play for a contender but look at their minor league system. Now that is a team that knew how to rebuild. They could be really interesting really quickly. I mean it is a nice system, but not nice enough where I see that disaster team turning around fast.
  6. Braves would be a solid match, but it gets muddy considering an extension would almost surely be required. For all the complaining Lucroy does about wanting to be on a contender I wonder if he would jump to an extension or not? You think he would(like any sane person would) for the money, but maybe not. I sure wouldn't trade for Lucroy if I was the Braves, but I won't complain if they do.
  7. That's too much quality and not enough quantity. You are better off trading them for multiple players. Bregman is better than anything we would ever get for those two and we probably won't get a superstar like Bregman in a trade involving Braun/Lucroy, but I'd rather get multiple players that can impact the MLB team. I see the attractiveness of Bregman, but I think he Brewers would be better off a different route. Most notably for pitching focused packages.
  8. I mean I guess everyone can have an opinion, but you are the only person I think that would call Villar a long term utility guy. He has been very consistent all year hitting .300/.380 with an OPS over .800. If that is our utility player's stats I can't wait to see the full line-up. Well he's far above his career norms. Maybe you think he will continue to exceed them. Maybe he has turned a corner like Carlos Gomez did. Even so, Scooter Gennett has been a better hitter in his career and is actually a second baseman. I don't see Villar as a 3rd baseman for very long. You have the backlog of Rivera, Arcia and Ortega lined up at short. Are you going to flip them? They didn't get much for Salinas did they? This is why I don't think this trade is so great. They traded a position of weakness for a position of strength which doesn't make sense to me. I would have just run out Rivera this year rather than go on a search for the elusive 73rd win. Rivera and Ortega both sport career OBP% under .300. That is pathetic. They could release both tomorrow and I wouldn't shed a tear. They will both be luck to have any sort of extended MLB career. We could send Villar back to Houston for a whole lot more than just Sneed at this point. How one could dislike the trade is quite shocking. I think it was a month or so ago there was a report scouts now think Villar is a solid starting SS. I can imagine their view has only gotten better with his stats continuing to excel. I don't know if he can keep his stats quite this good, but the fact he is a former top prospect and he has yet to struggle makes me feel like it could be real. Even if he regresses slightly he is still really good. And what do you mean by "Gennett is actually a 2B?" You are acting like it is a bad thing Villar hasn't been limited to 2B due to a noodle arm like Gennett.
  9. I mean I guess everyone can have an opinion, but you are the only person I think that would call Villar a long term utility guy. He has been very consistent all year hitting .300/.380 with an OPS over .800. If that is our utility player's stats I can't wait to see the full line-up.
  10. +1 He is a Top 5, Top 3, maybe even the top prospect in the game. I don't even think they would move him for Sale. Still I find it pretty strange they would go after Gourriel. They must expect his bat to play well as an OF/DH as Bregman will surely be the 3B of the future(one would think).
  11. Surprised Lillis decided not to go to college and try building his stock. Then again I have never been offered $125k and free college.
  12. Probably because he is an international guy with little stateside experience. Pretty hard to follow him when he isn't in stateside ball and he wasn't a big time signing(Lara). Though he was almost a $1mil signing so not a total unknown. Probably won't get much attention until he starts hitting in Wisconsin. Then people tend to take notice.
  13. The "OK basketball coach" (really?) with no MLB experience would take care of this problem. The grizzled, veteran MLB player and savior manager Counsell....hasn't and, looks like, won't....probably won't deal with it either. Funny, you didn't deny this. Sedar isn't the guy calling decisions to steal 3rd with two outs on the bases. Counsell sends in or relays the signs (or lack thereof) to Sedar. He calls the shots. Oops, basketball reference..... Oh I'm not denying Counsell is a bad manager(he sucks). He is just the placeholder until we start putting together a competitive team. Though I think this thread has moved on from the stealing 3rd base problem and onto a real problem caused by Villar which is all the other ways he gets out on the basepaths.
  14. That would be hugely disappointing because the offers will only get lower after July 31st and it puts the Brewers in the position of absolutely having to move him in the offseason. I don't know if they would necessarily get lower. Outside of the Indians or Rangers I can't really pinpoint a team that would really have a ton of interest in Lucroy. The Rangers have gotten production from their catchers and the Indians may not be primed to sell part of the farm. In the offseason their will be more teams interested and the prospect packages to pick from will be more diverse. The packages honestly may not be that worse than they are this deadline. Heck they could end up better. That being said I still hope he is traded before the deadline even if it isn't for the mega package some are expecting. I'd rather not risk another late season injury/concussion crushing his winter trade value. Unless the offers are offer I gotta think you take the best offer this deadline.
  15. Teams want Lucroy, but it appears no team REALLY wants/needs Lucroy. That may ultimately lead to a disappointing return and possibly not being traded until the offseason.
  16. What does an OK basketball coach have to do with the Brewers? Who cares what Bo Ryan would do. If we want to talk about making idiotic mistakes on the base paths we should probably talk about the old guy who stands near 3rd base.
  17. Profar makes no sense unless he signs an extension. He would basically be a rental for us. We hope to be competing in 2018 and that would be our second to last year of control. No thanks. As mentioned Gallo has a giant hole in his swing and would be a big gamble. I feel he is overrated because we drool over the potential, but ong ore that floor and SO issues.
  18. I'm guessing Gourriel will eventually shift to the OF.
  19. Broxton wasn't the key piece in the Rogers trade, Supak was. Broxton was a throw in who maybe turns into something. Davis has been horrible this year. Horrible may be a little harsh. After his rough start he rebounded nicely in May/June. Not what the Athletics were hoping for, but then again it has been half a season. They still have 3.5 years left of control
  20. We gave up quite a bit to get that package. Looking at that trade the day it happened the return wasn't that incredible. This trade however...looks quite amazing for the Padres right now. I suppose it depends how you feel about what we gave up. I personally thought Gogo was going to drop a bit, so it surely seems we got a better deal. To me at least. Agreed, but I think people are under rating Fiers value. He was why we got Brett Phillips. Who at the time was considered the best player in the deal.
  21. The thing is if you were worth $4mil would you settle for $3.5mil "as fast as you could"? It's really no different than when an average joe wants a raise. You want what you are worth. Also fighting over say $250k sounds ridiculous, but can you imagine safely investing that today and letting it grow till you want to retire? That is HUGE. So in my opinion they aren't being greedy. They are doing what is best for them and their future.
  22. We gave up quite a bit to get that package. Looking at that trade the day it happened the return wasn't that incredible. This trade however...looks quite amazing for the Padres right now. I mean no disrespect to you at all and it's not only you with this mentality, but is it possible that prospects are being valued too highly right now... especially in a sellers market? Espinoza is far from a sure thing, and maybe San Diego wins this deal 5 years in the future with their new ace. But it's also possible he doesn't come close his ceiling. I say it's a win-win. San Diego gets a high upside prospect. Boston bolsters their rotation with a young, controllable all star. I am not overvaluing a prospect. I am pretty sure most would agree they didn't see Pomeranz getting someone like Espinoza. So it is pretty surprising. And please note I said RIGHT NOW. I understand trades can turn out differently. Heck if Pomeranz leads the Red Sox to a Game 7 victory in the World Series it doesn't really matter what Espinoza becomes.
  23. I HATE cards of any kind. Who honestly cares when they get a card? When? Only if it is packed with goodies.
  24. We gave up quite a bit to get that package. Looking at that trade the day it happened the return wasn't that incredible. This trade however...looks quite amazing for the Padres right now.
  25. Every time a trade like this happens I wonder why we can't be this lucky. Though I guess it isn't that cut and dry because if Pomeranz is actually this good or close to it the Padres got the short end of the stick. Still as it stands wow.
