  1. Alvarez is actually a pretty good get for the Rangers. He has made some changes this year and if they are legit they control him another 5 years. Which would then make the Braves look silly. Also Demeritte is a huge risk with a low low floor. The power is there, but he is striking out at a 33% clip. That has to improve or it will only get harder for him as he climbs the ladder.
  2. Until they put a winning product on the MLB field they are no better than the rest of us. For all we know they are trading for a bunch of prospects other teams had a hunch would flame out, but they were to dumb to realize. I remember they were geniuses for "buying" Touki who was a Top 75 prospect. Now? He isn't even a Top 10 organizational prospect. Bottom line who cares how you rebuild your minor league team if they can't translate into good players at the MLB level.
  3. See and that's the reason I don't think we should put him apart of the generalization that catchers don't move midseason. While that is true guys of Lucroy's caliber usually aren't available. Now if someone came along with some examples of teams having difficulties finding buyers for other elite catchers you would have my attention.
  4. I have heard how rare it is to see catchers switch hands midseason, but why is that? Do we actually know? Are teams afraid to downgrade their defense at the catching position? Is the improvement just not worth it to throw in someone new midseason? Or are teams just not typically looking to trade a good catcher? I am trying to think of some really good catchers that have recently been traded, but I can't think of any. Most are being signed in free agency. Two things I would love to know: 1. How many catchers of Lucroy's greatness have been very much available at past deadlines to not be traded? 2.Who are some elite catchers that have been traded recently in the offseason?
  5. [sarcasm]Yah he went on his own. They actually meant to just steal Gennett and have Villar stay at second.[/sarcasm]
  6. I don't recall them mentioning a reason...it is LePay today. He doesn't give much more than the basic commentary honestly.
  7. This is by far THE WORST 4 innings I have watched in my life and it's not even close.
  8. Assuming the Dodgers put no value in Puig...I have heard they do, but who knows if that is true. After that as long as the two lower level prospects mentioned are high ceiling guys Stearns loves then yes I think that deal could work for both sides value wise. Of course do the Dodgers really want Braun that much?
  9. Just got some bleach to poor in my eyes. Should be a relieving feeling.
  10. I'd actually be a little shocked at this point if Braun isn't traded at the deadline or in the offseason. Barring injury or him blocking a trade. There has to be one team that would want him after we make him a $15mil a year player on a 4 year contract. I understand there is a guy like Bruce, but Braun has put up All Star numbers for a decade. Mind you Braun plays passable defense too. If I was a team I would love to give up a couple good, but not elite prospects for Braun. I'd take the risk drooling over the difference he can make. I think teams are making a big mistake if they aren't considering Braun to shore up their offense.
  11. Gotta revive this thread. Today in the first inning he was out by a mile for the third out at 3rd base. Wow
  12. Well 5 unearned runs is about all one needs to say(yes I realized it's technically 5, but they shouldn't be. Honestly don't know why they are.) EDIT: This is a game I will have trouble unseeing. Wow this is pathetic all the way around through one.
  13. This is pathetic. I haven't watched this team on TV for a good two months...and honestly I wish that streak didn't end tonight watching this defense.
  14. We better start packaging players and I don't even know Lucroy plus one of our big three relievers could do it.
  15. I get so confused when I see a trade proposal from someone and it is something like "Nelson OR Guerra". What? Are you inferring their value is close or are you basically just saying whatever it takes to get them? Start with Guerra and if they say no throw Nelson into the deal?
  16. I bet the Tigers are the mystery team. They are contending and have a need. Usually a team looking for a midseason splash. If the Indians are worried about Gomes and his contract why not offer to take him back? We need a catcher these next few years any way and $5mil-$7mil isn't that much. He also has bounce back potential and a veteran with good defense to help our pitchers. Now I wouldn't immediately pick up Gomes. In my mind they would have to make an offer Stearns prefers notably more than other best offers. Why not?
  17. Wow 25 homers this year at High-A! Loved him back in the 2013 draft.
  18. I don't care if Jeffress was a #1 pick. That doesn't make him be any more durable or last longer. I also don't care if he has electric stuff. John Axford had electric stuff one year and the next he was average at best. That is only one example I could fill an entire book of hard throwers who fell off a cliff faster than they climbed it. If you get a good offer for Jeffress you take it. I'm not saying we HAVE to trade him, but there is no reason we have to be blown away with some ridiculous package. If we were really confident we could compete in 2018 I could see maybe being a little more reluctant to trade him, but I'm all honesty he isn't a part of the future. Don't hold onto him too long.
  19. Jonathan Lucroy. There is no argument. Not even a sliver.
  20. One reason I really would like Jeffress to switch uniforms. When it comes to closers teams drool over strikeouts and Thornburg's 12.5 K/9 is among the best. I'd need a haul to move Thornburg.
  21. Due to the lack of great LH relief arms I think Smith still gets traded. I think teams will ignore this small sample size and take his track record.
  22. I feel like I see it every day and I think I can speak for most here... We know Lucroy had his highest value after the 2014 season. When people say it is at "an all time high" they either mean: 1) This is the highest it has ever been in the time he has actually been someone we would consider trading OR 2) Most likely they mean his value will not getting any higher than this from the present into the future.
  23. The only way/reason the Braves would be interested in Lucroy would be with an extension in tow. They aren't going to trade for him without knowing an extension can be agreed upon. That's why the match makes sense.
  24. AAA players are...proven?
  25. If he builds a longer track-record and improves his K-rate, his demand could go significantly higher as an elite closer. Longer track record, yes...K-rate, yes...however he said a longer track record as a closer, so not really that much.
