  1. Parra only seems like a good leadoff hitter because he is playing over his head. His .350 BABIP is much higher than his career norm. Once he comes back down to earth his OBP will be something like .310. He also sports a 17% strikeout rate and just a 5.5% walk rate. He will still be a nice add for a contending team, but I don't think any team will be looking at him to fill their lead off problem.
  2. What he said. Finding/developing pitching seems to be pretty much a crap-shoot, but how do we keep struggling at first and third, and continually plug old guys in at those spots? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like Melvin has drafted in a very reactionary manner. We were once thin in the outfield and then ended up with a glut of outfielders on the farm. We were thin up the middle and now we seem to have a farm full of middle infielders. He went on a pitching spree for a year or two where he seemed to draft nothing but pitchers. Lord knows, we need the pitching, but it just seems to me like a more balanced draft strategy or Best Player Available strategy would bear a lot more fruit. I don't think much of that was reactionary except when they went Jungmann/Bradley. That seemed to be a bit intentional. Every thing else just seems like best player available on the Brewers draft board. I mean we have been pretty strong in the outfield department since the start of time. I can't remember the last time I peaked at our prospects and thought we were weak there. Not to mention we went Trent Clark this year. Then when you look at the middle infield one guy was signed internationally(Arcia) and the other main piece was traded for(Sardinas). When you are drafting mid first or later like the Brewers have the best player available isn't that obvious. So many guys grade out the same you almost have to have a preference(pitcher, prep, college, hitter).
  3. I am sorry but some of the hindsight being used in this thread is pathetic. What was Doug Melvin suppose to have a crystal ball to tell him unpredictable situations? Should have traded Hardy in 2008 instead of 2009 when his value was higher: Darn should have known our 25 year old shortstop was going to get worse. Seriously? Not to mention he traded him for a gold glove CFer who has been amazing. Darn you Melvin really dropped the ball there. Should have taken Markakis instead of Weeks: Who had Markakis higher than Weeks on their draft board? Anyone? Nope, end of story.
  4. Safe bet his stats would be much worse with the Brewers. The Rangers changed the way he pitched. The Brewers would have kept him doing the same ole stuff. Add that to the fact we would be selling 3 months of Gallardo with no QO chance the return probably would be worse. I'd make that same trade looking back.
  5. Gennett's biggest mistake was not throwing it to 2nd. He could have probably chased down Byrd or at the very least thrown it to Segura at 2nd.
  6. Ok so we can play like garbage and have all are trade pieces be worthless to get maybe a top 5 pick. Or we could have a hot streak, trade off our pieces for a nice haul, and still end up with a top 10 pick. I am taking option two. Think about it. Our pieces increase value or at least want for a trade. Remove Parra,Lind, KRod and whomever by end of month. You're reducing the team's ability as a .500 ability and turning to a .470 winning ability. If that. So down the standings they go again. Gotta really like what Lind and Parra are doing. For a Playoff push, these two have to fit perfect profile for what you want as sparkplugs. If people want us to play like one of the three worst teams that means Lucroy needs to go back to hitting in the low .200s, Gomez needs to get hurt, pitchers need 5 ERAs. That doesn't seem like it is worth a couple spots in the draft order. Since the team has already decided to sell and has no chance to get back into the race having a hot streak is the best thing that could possibly happen. Actually for once things are going right for the Brewers.
  7. Ok so we can play like garbage and have all our trade pieces be worthless to get maybe a top 5 pick. Or we could have a hot streak, trade off our pieces for a nice haul, and still end up with a top 10 pick. I am taking option two.
  8. Our trade chips are playing better. Can't get any better than that.
  9. Carlos Gomez leaving gifts for Hamilton. Haha Going to miss Gomez when he is traded. Has a love for the game like no one else.
  10. I think it will be better the have a post liar/cheater that's an All Star...I agree with that. Sucking post PEDs only fuels the fire.
  11. Brian Anderson on the nationally televised game? Good
  12. The Brewers are selling...there is no way around that. It was a done deal over a month ago. Our soon to be free agents will be traded if there are any takers.
  13. Number of saves is probably not a tool the NL Manager is going to use...just a guess. Probably no difference between 18 and 25 saves. Also Braun's rank among RFers is pretty pointless. The OFers are just one big group and can play a different position if need be. Braun played RF in the All Star game once if I recall. It is his ranks among all OFers that matters. Both could end up being All Stars though. Braun should probably get in as the lone representative pick and K-Rod could join him later as a fill in.
  14. Why is that? Time to let the sour grapes go, he did his time, we all need to move on... It's more of the fact the rest of MLB has sour grapes(most notably NL Central foes). If we had to be represented by a single player I'd prefer a guy who won't be booed the whole week and talked about negatively. Just not how I would want the organization to be represented. Really just a minor thing and in the end I couldn't care less.
  15. Fangraphs has him come in at #15 in the NL if you include defense. If you only look at offense, which is probably more appropriate for the ASG, he comes in at #9. Fransisco Rodriguez on the other hand isn't what I'd consider one of the top closers stat wise. Nice stats, but not out of this world like some do. Probably not dominant enough to get in over some flashy names. Adam Lind is not an All Star compared to others at 1B. So really the Brewers have a bunch of nice players and none of them really deserve to go based on stats. So really there is no right pick. I think Braun will get it for name recognition and the fact he plays everyday vs. K-Rod who pitches an inning here and there.
  16. I don't think the Brewers risk it. If he somehow kept his current production maybe they could give him a QO and have him decline. However, the risk would be too much. He ends up playing horrible in August/September and suddenly we have a $14mil average corner outfielder.
  17. Wait Sims is on the DL too? I know Fried has been all season to my understanding...but Sims too?
  18. While I agree, the original poster gave Khris Davis the same value as Gerardo Parra...so marginal value at best. Khris Davis has so much more value than Parra and it isn't even close. I am all for trading Khris Davis if it means a better return, but Davis/Lucroy for those three pitchers would be a joke. Even Lucroy for those 3 pitchers may be a less than amazing return.
  19. I also think Lucroy should command more than just 3 of their pitchers. None of them are blow you away prospects. It might take one more top prospect or some lower level guys.
  20. People enjoy complaining around here. Not much to complain about lately.
  21. I can't say I understand. We are going to just throw away a controllable starting LFer because he is replaceable? That just makes no sense to me. Khris Davis is worth some nice prospects himself. Not someone you throw in a trade so a team will trade for your star catcher. Especially when they are trading 3 nice, but not great prospects. Not like we are talking about one of the pitchers from the Mets.
  22. I know people like to make this seem like an easy choice, but really it just isn't the reality of the matter. No doubt the Brewers have had some preference in bat over defense like most teams. Drafted Coulter despite no position and added Aramis Ramirez despite rather lackluster defense. Still the only real choice of offense over defense was all the strange experiments at 1B and then throwing anyone in the OF. In those cases you could probably argue the defense would have been more beneficial. But who is taking someone over Lind right now for defense? I can not think of anyone. Good defense is something you just hope for...you can only help that so much and then you just have to hope you develop the right guys. Sometimes the Khris Davis' turn out and the defensive studs end up Schafer like duds with the bat.
  23. Khris Davis has some decent value...why are we throwing him into a trade? Lucroy and Davis would take quite a package. More than the 3 pitchers being thrown around.
  24. Personally if we were going to have only one guy represent us I would prefer a different player.
