  1. Do you know how many pitchers use pine tar? These foreign substances are so widespread...and a lot of people in baseball want them the be legal. I mean batter use batting tape, gloves, PINE TAR, etc. Etc. Etc.....but a pitcher can't? The rule makes little sense and any manager pointing it out is in poor taste.
  2. Lucroy can get all three of the names you mentioned alone. There is no reason to pick up dead weight to make a deal happen. I also don't see McCann having any real value in 2017 as a platoon 1B.
  3. That trade would be questionable with McCann not in it. There is no way the Brewers take on what likely is $17mil in dead weight through at least 2018. It would not make any sense. Yankees would be laughing all the way to the bank if they were offered that.
  4. Broxton is such a steamy pile of garbage. Worthless.
  5. What off field benefits would they cash in on? And how would they surpass the on field benefits? Simply put you pay Gerardo Parra $7mil for his performance value. He doesn't provide anything else(I don't see people go to the park to see Parra or buy his jersey). When you shell out $100mil to one player you plan to get more than just some good baseball. You want to cash in on a lot more. Ryan Braun was the ultimate marketing piece. The guy was homegrown and a HUGE hit with fans. Braun was being set up to be the next Yount, who the Brewers STILL benefit from. The way I see it when he got busted the Brewers watched millions of dollars in the future get flushed down the toilet.
  6. You really believe he only took them in 2011? I am sorry but he went to college in Miami where Biogenesis was down the street. The baseball team was so drugged up it was unbelievable. Not to mention Ryan Braun had a little relationship with A-Rod. Maybe he only took them in college...maybe it was on and off all this time...maybe he has been on it all this time. Regardless I think it would be a bit crazy to think 2011 he went out searching for some help. I feel like if it was that minor he wouldn't have thrown people under the bus, made his friends look like idiots, and embarrass the franchise. Braun is a special player no doubt...so was Bonds...so was A-Rod. Sadly these guys decided to make a disgrace of themselves and the game they played. The former two were obvious HOF picks, but now they will go down as losers and rightfully so. Braun could have taken the high road after the PED test. He could have came out, admitted it, and gave up the MVP award. Instead he took the lowest road possible. People are only treating Braun the way he treated baseball, the system, and fans through this whole debacle. Like I said feel free the support him. That is perfectly acceptable because I see that side of the argument. However it isn't wrong for someone to hate the guy. There are valid reason for that too.
  7. Like that CC let Nelson battle and grind to finish the 8th. A lot of potential in Nelson. He could round into a really nice #2(sub 3.50 ERA pitcher with good peripherals).
  8. Can't help but laugh at gamecast. Coach visits mound...then, homer...homer...homer. Yup pep talk worked great.
  9. The Mets have no need for a CF...care to elaborate why you think they do? Lagares is signed to a 5/$25mil contract and is possibly the best CFer defensively in the game. He was a 5.5 WAR player last year. They have no place to add a CFer.
  10. No the PED scandal is not irrelevant to his contract. It is one of the most important things. What is irrelevant is arguing whether or not he deserves what he got...because it doesn't matter. Braun is a cheater, a liar, and a coward. The Brewers didn't give him that contract because of on the field play during the contract. It was for all the off the field benefits they would cash in on. These kind of contracts aren't signed for on the field value only. They are signed for much much more. So to say all this PED drama is BS and doesn't matter is horribly inaccurate and plain wrong. I get it you are like many that wish it would all just dissappear. Sadly it never will and we all will have to live with that. The reason he is behind A-Rod is not because of just his talent when he was busted. It is because he was the second biggest POS about it. That is why he gets dragged through the mud so much. Personally no matter what he does on the field this contract will always be bad in my mind. For some it may be different...most notably the people that try to rationalize what he did and support him. That is fine...but I can never support a guy like him.
  11. I think judging his contract goes past just his on the field performance. What about the lack of merchandise sales? Before he was one of the best sellers in all of MLB...now most Brewers fans don't want anything related to him. How about the constant PED/lying stigma that will never go away? Really he doesn't provide much value outside of that on field performance. He is nearly impossible to market the way they used to. They have started to use him a little in marketing, but he will never be that stand alone marketing lightning rod. All the off the field value really does add up when you think about it. For what this contract was suppose to provide in value compared to what it really will now is horrible. Will it be the worst in franchise history? Probably not, but I guarantee you that 10 years from now no one should look back and say, "Wow I am glad that deal was made." Let's remember that this big deal wasn't so much for on field value. It was to make Braun a franchise image much like Yount and to etch him into Brewers history forever. Now that his image is shattered I don't know if the Brwwers will ever see those benefits.
  12. Play of the day after the brain dead play of the day to save a run.
  13. Our pitchers have the baseball IQ of like 50...they do not know how to even slightly keep runners honest. I wonder if they even care...are they told just to pitch? Wow adding to the lack of baseball IQ...what a dumb throw.
  14. One tiny problem with trading for Gomez though. Their current CFer might be the best defensive CFer in the game(better than Gomez for sure). I have a really hard time seeing them bench him. Last year Lagares sported a 5.5 WAR...not really a guy you want to bench. A trade with the Mets doesn't make a lot of sense now that I look at it. Cuddyer and Granderson have no where to go and no way they bench either of them. Not to mention Gomez or Lagares at a corner spot would be a huge waste of value.
  15. I could see a trade centered around Matz. Sure you don't get that super elite prospect, but you get a lot more chances to hit some MLB talent.
  16. I agree with any Cardinal. They guy was so obviously a PED guy but he cashed in and never failed a drug test, so he passes. Cruz to me just has a better supplier and better masking agent. Proof? None, but once a liar, always a liar. Braun WAS indeed different. Unlike Pooholes (13th round pick) and Cruz, Braun was an elite player his whole baseball life. The guy has always mashed. Maybe his natural talents will allow him to still be good while playing clean. I can maybe buy that. I can't see him ever being the guy people look up to again though. Highly disagree with your assessment on Braun. I couldn't find Braun's exact rank as a prospect when he was a prep, but it sounds like he was toward the back of Top 100 lists. NOT ELITE...Then anything once he got to Miami might as well be thrown out the window. Sounds like he got into the PED game pretty quickly there.
  17. Why can't Luis Sardinas play 2B while Segura plays SS?
  18. We need a real 3B for the future.
  19. You know it is possible and I have though of it. Also I think Peralta always faired pretty well with Maldonado catching him so maybe not a coincidence he has been maybe our best pitcher so far. I don't know though I feel like it has been so noticeably bad it has to be much more than the catcher. Not to mention the pitchers aren't hitting their spots leaving balls up which isn't the catchers fault. Maldonado may just be a small piece of the equation.
  20. I would hope one of the best pitching prospects and a guy regarded as a future ace would look better than Peralta/Nelson.
  21. Either way Porcello is a massive outlier and not even close to comparable to Garza. Porcello is 26 and the Red Sox gave him that money assuming through his PRIME would improve greatly...becoming maybe a 1-2 type starter in time. People either thought it was one of the worst overpays ever or assumed he was going to be the great starter some hoped. No one thought they signed him to be a 3.75 ERA type pitcher. Unless you are 26 with big upside you shouldn't compare yourself to Porcello. To say Garza is a 8mil a year bargain or even close is waaaay off base.
