  1. So MLB Game Day has "game scores" for the starters and I believe they are up to 100(Lohse had a 85 yesterday and Colon had a 33 for reference). Garza had a solid -1 today.
  2. I stood behind Davis when he was struggling, but he was still seeing the ball taking walks. Gennett on the other hand has zero confidence, swinging at everything, not taking pitches...absolutely the worst hitter possible. I am a bit tired of watching him. It has only been about 60 at-bats because of the injury, but I have seen nothing positive all year.
  3. If it was that simple I feel like more managers would do it.
  4. I don't see his defense as that huge a negative. Routes and jumps on the ball are pretty bad from everything I have seen. He doesn't have the speed to make up for mistakes and it hurts him on a lot. Now whether that slowly improves the longer he plays in RF like it seemed to do in LF I don't know. You also have to consider that his defense will get worse with age. I don't think he will ever become a serious liability, but it still needs to be considered.
  5. Alright so he has hit some meatballs lately. He still only has two doubles and can't handle the inside pitch. He has been more patient lately though which is really nice. I will say there is hope he can be a productive hitter again...just how productive is the real question. And will that production off set the negative defensive value he brings to the table? For $20mil he will need to be smacking 30homers plus good AVG/OBP skills
  6. Really the value of a prospect comes down to a lot of things. Obviously there is a difference between an 18 who is like 150 range and a 23 year old in AAA who is a 90 range prospect. Future value has to be taken into consideration. Devers is a Top 100 prospect without proving much. He could have future value of a Top 30 prospect some day easily. Higher up prospects are also more valuable because they are more proven and they are closer to the MLB. With Garza you pretty much have to hope for a diamond in the rough. Because of the high salary I doubt a team wants to give up an already highly touted guy while taking on that money. Devers would be wishful thinking and even a guy like Arcia last year would be a pretty big stretch. Going to have to dig deeper unless Garza really tears it up.
  7. My guess is you are wrong. If a team is willing to trade for him it is because they believe he is the pitcher of the past 2 season where he was completely viable as a playoff pitcher. If past trades are any indication of what Lohse is worth it would tell us he is at least worth a B/B- type prospect. The Lackey trade last year is where I would put Lohse's trade value at. John Lackey had a $500,000 option...Lohse does not. Their value is not very comparable.
  8. I think the Attanasio is moving away from the spending every dime. Before I think it was just the fact they had that growing payroll and all these big homegrown players they could resign. So they always were pushing the payroll to the limit. Now you have these sad attempts to try and compete which requires to spend all the payroll. I expect the payroll to shrink in the mini rebuild and some big investments in the international market.
  9. 8 scoreless innings and his ERA is all the way down to 5.85
  10. Regarding the Braun homer...the Brewers have been hitting some bombs lately.
  11. Rick Porcello is either nothing like Matt Garza or such an outlier that he really shouldn't be in this conversation.
  12. Bartolo Colon will have a multi hit game...because Brewers...why not?
  13. It is easy to say it will likely be good and almost likely be $5mil...but it could also easily become one brutal $13mil burden. What if he stays healthy and his velocity drops with age causing him to become a 4.50 ERA+ pitcher? That is a big gamble to assume he will miss enough starts to not get it to vest. He only needs to average 27.5 starts for that to happen.
  14. I think it is a bit more realistic that his deal is for 3.5 years. There is a somewhat plausible chance his $13mil option vests and if that doesn't vest I would imagine any team is picking up the $5mil option unless he falls off a cliff. There is also the possible $1mil option...but that would mean missing nearly a year. A lot of variables a team needs to consider when trading for Garza.
  15. Angels already have Cron and Pujols. Not sure another 1B is going to be very good for that organization. Have you seen the production from their DH spot?
  16. Not surprised to see Yadiel Rivera get promoted to AAA. If he doesn't make it to the show before Arcia we may never get a chance to see him.
  17. I don't think the White Sox would move Rodon, but there is no way the Brewers trade Lucroy for the center piece being a borderline Top 100 prospect who is a SS. And Gilbert Lara is no where near an elite prospect. The guy is vastly overrated. We would really being trusting our scouting team trading for the guys you mentioned.
  18. I see no point in such a move. Why would we even want to do that? Just let him mash at AA the whole year.
  19. To be fair he did say in terms of value...I was assuming he maybe understood that it wasn't very realistic? White Sox won't be getting Lucroy unless Rodon is coming back. I don't think there is any way they trade away Lucroy without getting an elite prospect back.
  20. You've been paying too much attention to the opinions on mlbtraderumors site who for no apparent reason are down on him. Garza's the exact same guy he's always been and that's a solid mid rotation starter. He's not a dominant guy, but he's posted 4 straight quality starts and he's under contract for next year too at what these days is fairly reasonable terms. Any big market team that fancies itself as a contender that finds itself in a bind for a starter will be interested. Value? Well Boston got Joe Kelly AND Allen Craig for John Lackey (who's older and more expensive than Garza) last year. Kelly's struggled recently but I'd take him. Nobody saw Craig falling off a cliff. The value on Garza is just a huge question mark. He is not all that young, comes with injury risk(though we have yet to see a major injury in his Brewers contract), and isn't all that cheap. By no means is he expensive, but near market value doesn't help his trade value. I surely wouldn't trade him for less than a Top 100 prospect as I think he is worth it, but then again it doesn't really matter what I think. Like you stated there is always a ton of desperation for mid rotation starters every year. There definitely should be some desperate teams on the prowl. As for the Red Sox trade I am pretty sure most agreed it was a bad deal for the Sox from the get go. They got Joe Kelly who is about to hit arbitration not to mention not that great anyway and an expensive Allen Craig who fell of the cliff last year. Quite sad they got that for a solid starter making $1mil this year.
  21. All I am saying is not many in the business are sold on Garza being very tradable...or valuable for that matter. I will stick with the professional position for now.
