  1. The other troubling thing about the Braun deal is the fact it was extremely early with 5 years left on the original one. It was pointless to sign a guy that early to a deal fairly close to what market value would be. While some guys are getting huge deals on the FA market at Braun's age we also knew what they did past 30...with Braun he was still in his prime and his post prime years were a total mystery when the big deal was made.
  2. I seriously hope you are kidding....seriously hope.
  3. This is the last year of the original deal and Braun will turn 32 years old in November. So he would have hit free agency at the same age as Pujols. They extended a guy for 100% decline years and a guy who as far as we know can't play the infield...it wasn't a great idea back then and now that his image/marketability is destroyed it looks absolutely horrible not even considering he is crippled.
  4. I hate that comparison a lot. Scott was good the entire 2003 season, didn't fall off the face of the earth the next year, was a 70 steal guy(RARE), had some power....I mean let's be honest he was a well rounded player. Segura had two good months and slowly nose dived for over a year. Jean Segura has value, but he is about to be arbitration eligible and that all star appearance will inflate it. Podsednik went from hitting .314 in 2003 to .244 in 2004. That's a pretty significant drop for a guy without a ton of power and who wasn't a great centerfielder defensively either. I know Segura's drop off is fresher in everyone's mind but believe me there was plenty of negativity on this site's forum about Podsednik despite the 70 SB after his 2004 season, which was really brutal for the team. Podsednik was the leadoff hitter and after a .379 OBP in 03, it fell way down to .313 in 04. Segura's year wasn't that bad either taken in the context that offense around the entire league was down last year and the fact that he plays a key defensive position and is several years younger than Podsednik was at the time. Jean Segura was the 12th worst hitting starter in all of MLB and the 2nd worst SS only out performing a 40+ year old Jeter. So even if offense was down around the league Segura was one of the worst guys trotting out there every day. For comparison back in 2004 Scott was the 48th worst hitter and the 22nd worst OF. The might have had similar falls, but at least with Scott you know you would get an average player. With Jean Segura he could be totally worthless with the bat and his defense is largely overrated. (All information was pulled off of FanGraphs)
  5. Excited to see Wily Peralta for the first time in person on $4.14 ticket day next Monday.

  7. The offense is playing so bad as a whole right now I can't wait till they all get on streaks at the same time. I am not being sarcastic either you gotta imagine some of these guys will start finding their stroke soon and mash.
  8. Unfortunately, I think players like Cueto, Price, Zimmerman and Greinke are all going to cost more than the Brewers can afford. This leaves guys like Latos, Fister, Samardzija, Kennedy and Gallardo as options for the Brewers. I would personally like to see them target Latos or Fister if thier AAV stays around $17-18M. Add Latos or Fister to our existing starters Peralta, Garza, Nelson, Fiers and Jungmann (I believe Thornburg is destined to be a back of the rotation reliever) and this rotation offers a lot of potential. They could afford to sign one of the big names. They have the cash opening up and they could defer some money(which wouldn't be horrible as their next TV Deal will start in 2020). Not sure they could do it for 25mil+, but if one of them could be had for closer to $20mil I could see it. Only problem is a lot of our players will be into arbitration by the end of one of these big deals and money could be tight in the later years. Not to mention we are talking a big commitment in a time period where we don't look that impressive.
  9. The Brewers are only 2.5 games back.
  10. The logic behind this makes no sense and I hate how people love to use it. We were not forced to give him an extension. We could have let the man walk and not gotten into a deal he had no chance living up to. The deal wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't destroy his marketability, but we all know that is well outside the window.
  11. The last few years it was blamed on the thumb injury. Basically he said he had to start his swing earlier blah blah blah and caused him to swing at bad pitches. Whether that is true I don't know....Maybe he is so screwed up after two years of swinging at garbage. And PEDs can effect it in the sense that you can swing the bat faster. You can wait longer and get to balls faster. Of course I don't think you can go from so great to so bad like Braun has with just cutting out PEDs...though I am no expert. None of us truly know what Braun 2.0 will yield. I have my suspicions, others have theirs. I do go back to the thumb injury. While Im sure it was a real injury, I cant recall players losing so much production for such a long time due exclusively to the thumb. i get that its critical and i get that its exposed to potential injury. What I don't get is why it hasn't been every bit as prevalent an injury as say the tommy john, hamstring, tired arm, etc. Can anyone name a circumstance like this? An elite player at the prime of his career falling apart due to a thumb injury? I would think there is someone but nothing comes to mind. I think calling it a thumb injury is being too specific. Lets name all the players that had hand/wrist injuries that made their career go south. I am sure you can find a lot of players that had wrist injuries that failed afterwards...Weeks comes to mind.
  12. There is no place on this team for him...literally no place.
  13. You thought he produced last year? 19 Hrs in 2014, 41 in 2012. Yeah, it was the thumb, of course, he will be back to his usual 900-950 ways this year. No, he's saying that you are sure he's a "750 guy at best," and I, like TLB assume you mean ".750 OPS" when you say "750 guy at best." Last year (sore thumb and all) he hit for a .777 OPS, so it's hard to believe that he is a ".750 OPS guy at best." You then came back with a bit of a snarky comment using his home run totals to justify lack of production, and then shifted back to an OPS reference in your "900-950 ways" comment. I personally don't know what to expect from Braun. He was injured last year, so that probably had some negative effect. Personally, I think it'll be tough to be a .950 OPS guy, as very few people ever hit that mark, and he is on the other side of 30. However, I hope that he can be a mid-to-high .800 OPS guy again. Time will tell. You are banking everything on thumb excuse. I suppose its possible. I did just look it up, and he did hit 777. If you honestly think that is so much better than 750, then sheesh, what can I say? At his pay, he MUST be a 900 guy for the Brewers plan to work. I also looked up his splits because my comments were based on what I remember of him last year, not the actual stats. Turns out he had a tremendous April then that was that. Was it the thumb? I really doubt it but its certainly conceivable. Can you name a player losing so much production for the bulk of the season due to a thumb injury? Wasnt that also his excuse for the lack of pre suspension 2013? Then how did he mash in April 2014? The Brewers have everything tied into him being a super star, 750 (or 777 if that makes you feel better about him) wont get it done. Yeah. Same thumb injury or was it thumb surgery I believe. Dustin Pedroia. 787 to 712. His whole complaint is the fact with rest it felt better, but given just a little bit of time it started messing him up. You could see this during the season after a days rest he would come back have a big game or April 2014 would be a long term rest example. He had all offseason and it lasted a lot longer healthy. And how about you find someone with this same injury in the past to help your argument? This is a strange injury I have never heard of a baseball player having...I am also not a doctor and wouldn't know its effects. I looked up Pedroia's and it doesn't seems like the same injury and the surgery wasn't even remotely similar. There is a lot of proof that he drastically changed his swing once the injury started and was hitting it to RF a lot. He just could not hit to LF with power. I think my favorite part about the Braun debacle is all the arm chair doctors.
  14. He played for an independent league last year so it is possible he is doing the same this year.
  15. When did he get hurt? Dominican League
  16. Why is everyone so negative towards Garza?...people are acting like he had a career year that he can't repeat. He had a normal year in line with what he has done over his career. I don't think there is any reason Garza can't put together a similar year. He is 31 years old not 40. You could probably argue his HR rate will go up a little, but his ERA should still float around 3.75.

  18. Seriously? No offense, but who is going to trade for Ramirez now? Five years ago, teams would have jumped on him. Hell, two or three years ago, they would have, also. But he's injury prone now, and he's said this is most likely his last season. Who is going to trade anybody decent for a less than one year rental of a player that might not even spend that whole year healthy? If there is a team that has a mess like the Brewers had at 1B last year at their own 3B they would jump on Ramirez. The options to trade for mid season are typically weak at 3B and if Ramirez is putting up .270/.330 teams will come knocking. The return will largely depend on the money we would eat, his health, and production. Too early to predict right now, but I don't think there is any reason no one would trade an OK prospect for him if he is healthy/producing.
  19. I guess now that Yovani Gallardo is gone from the team, Khris Davis will inherit the underappreciated player role here. I don't understand why people are so fast to get rid of the guy, he is average in the field & has big time pop in his bat. There are probably 15 teams out there that would be dying for a $500,000 salary OF who is likely to slug 25 HR. IMO he is very valuable to us, as his contract allows us to go after guys like Zimmermann next offseason if we choose to. Same thing with Gennett, although he is weaker from one side of the plate. I get a kick out of this forum sometimes...we sit here and cry and b***h and moan about wanting cheap, cost controlled talent. Then we finally get some in Davis and Gennett, & possibly Segura and the same people are DESPERATE to trade them away. It's like a perpetual infatuation with the MLB Draft and I don't get it. Why not consider trading one of them if they can bring back a nice haul? The team is playing like garbage...might as well talk about possible trade scenarios and how this team could go about the future. Now I don't hate Khris Davis as the above guy seems to act like...I actually think he is a pretty good player mainly because of his salary. With that being considered all that value translates to trade value as well and could help us in the future. Most people are just mentioning possible trade chips that we COULD hypothetically deal. I don't see anyone demanding we trade a certain player etc.
  20. The Brewers have Tyrone Taylor who will take over for Carlos Gomez after we trade him, but we don't really have a replacement in the wings if we trade Khris Davis too. Coulter and Harrison have bright futures, but are waaaay far off. The closest one may be Kyle Wren who is a big question mark right now. He is putting up nice stats, but some scouts see him more as a 4th outfielder. I don't see Khris Davis going anywhere unless we can find a close to MLB ready OFer in that deal or another deal that is promising. I guess I could also see them trading Davis if it brings back a very good 1B or 3B prospect too. Obviously the Padres don't make sense, but if a team offered a player like Renfroe in a deal it could make sense.
  21. Until Ron Reonicke is gone any problems with this team will never change.
  22. Gennett a great trade chip? At best you are getting a AAAA player for Gennett. Lohse has some value but not enough to bring back a solid prospect at best you are looking at a teams 6-10 ranked prospect and that is the best case scenario. As for Ramirez you are probably only going to get a AAAA player or a high risk player like the K-Rod trade to Baltimore. The only real asset the Brewers have in terms of a trade are Sardinas, Gomez, Nelson, and Peralta. Braun really needs to be moved to 1B his body is just to fragile right now to be playing in the OF. I would start with playing Braun at 1B versus lefties this year and then moving Braun permanently to 1B next year otherwise you are looking at only having Braun on the team for about 100 games a year. It just makes more sense to move Braun to 1B sooner rather than later. I think you a seriously underrating Ramirez and Gennett. If Ramirez is hitting .270 and healthy he can fetch a decent prospect for a team in need of a 3B. Think Brewers back in 2011. He could fetch a 6-10 top prospect. Gennett is pretty valuable himself. The fact he needs a platoon partner he is still worth a top 10 prospect too. He is more of a wildcard and depends when we trade him. Right now he has a lot of control and is very cheap. Sure none of them will get a Top 100 prospect(maybe Gennett if the situation is right) but they still will bolster the farm system and you never know what those prospects could turn in to. You could get some very serviceable players out of it.
  23. I believe the Padres were looking at Sardinas before he was traded to the Brewers. There were actually a few teams looking to acquire Sardinas in a trade before the Brewers got him. You are extremely under valuing Sardinas value on the trade market. The Padres were actually looking to trade for him after the Brewers acquired him. The amount of interested teams doesn't really speak for his value. A lot of times teams are trying to buy low on players. I don't think the Brewers are all that interested in trading one of their SS right now...I am sure they enjoy their surplus up the middle. Will be interesting what they do if Segura continues to hit. It will be tough to trade Sardinas for a prospect since GMs don't like the risk involved if the guy you acquire bombs and the other turns into an all star. Prospect for prospect trades just don't happen all that often.
  24. I think you have to be 18 so in two years if he is 16 now. I know Arcia started when he was 18....till then Dominican league. EDIT: I think he can go to rookie ball if they so choose.
