  1. Nobody anywhere is paying Broxton 15 mil WAR is a good stat for full season numbers, in a small sample size a lot of wacky things happen. Broxton has played great defense this year, but a big part of great defense for an outfielder is opportunity. You need balls to be hit just right so you can make an incredible catch. That's not always going to happen and thats why usually you want multiple years of data to really judge a defender.
  2. It's a very small sample, but Arcia is having a very nice month of August, he should be playing a lot more.
  3. It helps to have a certain middle infielder out of the lineup today. Gee who’s that? Yuniesky Betancourt Jr

  5. No but '98, '99, '01, '06, '07, '08, '09, '14, '17, '18 do. All either leading the division or within striking distance around the all star break or later. 08 is what I was thinking about. And 07 was a horrible collapse... so was 14 if I recall. My gosh this is depressing to think about lol '06 is the second worst in my mind behind '07. The "Turnblow" season, 84 wins was all it took to win that division too... That's why it just makes me laugh when people bemoan the Packers not winning a Super Bowl in a few years. Every recent "playoff failure" would be parade worthy if the Brewers did it.
  6. No but '98, '99, '01, '06, '07, '08, '09, '14, '17, '18 do. All either leading the division or within striking distance around the all star break or later. Of course they've also had a couple of years of the opposite where they fell behind so far early on that their late season run came up short '12, '13

  8. I definitely agree with the part about the DSL guys. Our lower minors is littered with DSL guys who can't hit or pitch. Overall, since re-opening the academy, the success rate has been incredibly low in getting any of them near the majors.
  9. Gotta admit... Rob Henry was a bit of a head-scratcher. He's shown a really good eye at the plate, obp of .399 right now with as many walks as strikeouts. I don't think he's top 25 but I did rank 69 prospects, he should be in there. Instead I had him 26th where I meant to put the other Henry.
  10. My one regret is I just bricked on Payton Henry. Im not 100% sure Id have him top 25 but I at least should've included him in extras. I wanted him and rob henry at least mentioned, but I think when I added Rob I just mentally crossed them both off.
  11. What if I told you the win column has exactly the same amount of meaning in the standings as the loss column. This is why they use games back or winning percentage. The Cubs are more likely to have less losses than us when they've played less games, so that's why the current standings base the rankings off of best record, not losses. Until you can figure out a way for the Brewers to be able to subtract losses from their W/L record, the loss column is and always will be the only thing that matters. Is there a way to subtract wins from the total?

  13. That's what I worry about, even if we make the postseason, it's very likely a WC, is it worth it if we don't win the WC game? Losing one or two of those guys isn't a huge deal, losing all of them hurts the farm system quite a bit. Is this what's going to be done the next few years if this team stays competitive? If so this isn't the Stearns approach I expected and nothing's really changed.
  14. They're trying to not ruin him, like what happens to other relievers who pitch 75+ appearances and then can't find the strikezone the next year and end up on the DL.
  15. It's not being a sports fan, it's being a fan of this team. They have been in prime contention for the postseason and collapsed in the 2nd half in '98, '99, '01, '06, '07, '08(luckily the Mets collapsed harder), '09, '14, '17, likely '18. A couple more years of bottoming out could've gone a long way, instead they won't have any more top picks anytime soon and they've already started to gut the farm on rentals.
  16. His plate discipline so far has somehow looked even worse than what we see out of Arcia and Perez. That's hard to do. Schoop has legit really good home run and doubles power, but he simply refuses to make pitchers throw him better pitches to hit hard. There have been times since the trade where i've literally found myself yelling at the TV, "please stop swinging at that crap", as he he flails at one pitch way off the plate after another. I know the stats say he's hit homers in the past, but watching this guy, I can't believe it. He looks exactly like what I'd expect a .264 obp hitter to look like, terrible. I don't think he's even had a hard liner or deep flyout yet. This is not a normal slump...
  17. 5 for 34, 4 singles, 0 BB 16 Ks A complete disaster of a trade, this is what happens when you make a panic move a minute before the deadline because your other plans fell through.
  18. I really don't like the idea of sending a guy down to CS to work on a curveball...
  19. Exactly this, if you're going to go a situational approach, Knebal needs to be able to pitch in a low stress save situation like this one. With this organizational approach, you need just about the whole bullpen to get a lot of use. If three pitchers are going to suck in the 9th, there's nothing you can do.
  20. This is the one I agree with the most. Every bullpen is great when they're saving games, every manager is terrible when bullpen guys are blowing games. Today wasn't a "we need our best pitcher to close out a 9th inning" game, this was a throw someone out there to get three outs against the bottom of a bad lineup. Corey comes in and walks three guys, it's on him, Soria was brought in before the game was blown, and he tosses a meatball to unload the bases, it's on him. Live by the bullpen, die by the bullpen. Change out the pitchers often, and never marry anyone to one role.
  21. They might give him a couple days, but he'll play regularly. They didn't trade for him to be a reserve. And he'll hit. Between Moose, Shaw, Arcia, Jesus, who do you bench?
  22. That is great to see for Arcia! Hopefully this will put Schoop on the bench for a while!
  23. Speaking of long shots for callups, a spot for quinton berry would be fun, the pinch running specialist who scored 0 runs last year.
  24. Call up everyone who's healthy (other than Diplan). Do not play shorthanded in a pennant race against other teams that will call up as many possible.
  25. This is really the only explanation I believe.
