  1. I'll be up in terraced reserved on Saturday Does anyone know when the TBD goes away and we find out what time the awesomeness that is playoff baseball in Milwaukee will start?
  2. "She should be coming back soon. The episode should have covered most of her time there, since it was a 3 month program." I didn't put that together, good call. I predict she comes back as normal and the new question is, "When are you going to do something with your degree?" instead of "When are you going to get your degree?" Pam's not one to rock the boat. I'm interested to see what they do with Ryan once Pam's back. I'm sure they didn't just bring him back for 1 or 2 episodes.
  3. I'm in favor of asking McClung, "In which case (starter or closer) would we get to see crazy-eyed McClung who looks like he wants to not only strike out his opponent, but single-handedly brawl with the entire opposing team?" Whichever he answered, I'd give it to him. I'm only half-joking
  4. I hope they come up with a different way to celebrate walk-offs...I've often thought that grown men jumping on each other in such a close proximity is just asking for someone to get hurt. If this makes Counsell our starting SS, our team just got a lot worse.
  5. Extras! At least if the Mets win, they're bullpen will take a hit because of this.
  6. Double play! 1st and 3rd with no outs and can avoid damage with 1 more out!
  7. I doubt it plays much of a factor, but I wonder if the Cubs are a little motivated to put the Brewers in the playoffs so that they play away games at Miller Park instead of Shea. Their recent history (against the Astros) is obviously impressive, and they would probably have 50% of the fans even at their away games. Plus, we're closer to their home and they wouldn't have to put up with all the hype/extra things that come with a New York series. Like I said, I don't think it's a big factor, but it would be kinda nice seeing as they practically have as much of a hand in our fate as we do.
  8. Craig...why are you our 3rd baseman?
  9. I don't like the word "must", but this is a must score situation
  10. I would like to be the first in this thread to say, "Hire Tony La Russa!" Assuming he leaves the Cardinals of course.
  11. Sweet deal! Thanks bani! Now let's hope this year the Brewers make the lottery matter
  12. So will some Sept 1st call-ups be at this one? Or are they waiting for the minor league season to finish?
  13. I'm guessing it is a rec-league, but I don't think that fact should stop a talented player from playing. A lot of places don't have traveling teams or other "competitive" leagues at that age-level, since they are supposed to be developing their talents. That doesn't mean that some players shouldn't be able to excel more than others, though. I like your suggestion of bumping him up a level if he wanted that. The thing is, he might be playing with his friends and feel uncomfortable playing with older kids who he may not know. Along with developing baseball talents, rec-leagues are also about building friendships and doing things with your peers. I'd hate to be the person that told him he couldn't play with his friends because he's too good.
  14. I get your point that the kids need to learn to hit 20 mph before they can hit 40 mph, but it's no reason to not let the kid pitch. I read somewhere that it's an eight team league these kids are in...which means that once in every seven games the kids will be facing a very tough opponent. I think that their development will not be hindered if they are challenged once every seven games. The first baseball league I played in had kids from 2nd to 4th grade in it. As a 2nd grader facing mostly 4th grade pitching, I got destroyed. I got maybe two hits the entire year. I still had a ton of fun though, and kept practicing and getting better. The next year I was about a .300 hitter and the year after that I was mashing home-runs every few at-bats. I think the key was that my coaches and my parents didn't tell me that it was unfair that I was facing kids two years older than me. They just encouraged me and praised me for things like making contact and playing good defense. These days, parents want their kids to succeed right off the bat, and don't want them to have to work a little bit to have success.
  15. Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm also a HDTV dummy in need of help. I'm trying to help someone purchase a TV in the $500-$600 range, and I don't have very much experience at all in the area. I'm open to additional suggestions, but from reading consumer reviews on-line these are my top two choices right now: 1) Samsung LN-T3253H -32" LCD HDTV -REFURBISHED What mainly attracted me to this model was that we could get a good deal because it's refurbished, and it supposedly has PC connectivity. I've never had a TV that you could hook a computer up to. Do you have to have a certain type of computer to do this/is their additional cords that would need to be bought? Also, should buying a TV refurbished be a big worry? 2) Vizio VW32LHDTV10A -32" LCD HDTV -New This one seemed to get great reviews, but the one negative was that the picture wasn't great from angles. Unfortunately, my friends set-up doesn't allow for seating straight-on, so that's the only thing that worries me about this one. Thanks for any suggestions!
  16. I remember that last year a playoff ticket lottery was held sometime in September. I assume it will be held after the season ticket owners have a chance to order or decline their tickets. Anyone hear anything about when that will happen this year?
  17. Just got into this and was wondering if anyone here has won any of the challenges/done well enough to redeem any cool prizes. It's pretty addicting so far, and I'm starting to understand the market trends better. I'm still a mere pauper at $23,000, but I'm doing respectably in the challenges I've entered.
  18. I believe that the worry is that the body is not made for that kind of physical stress at that young of an age. Although, that claim has not been proven very strongly, so I do think that the age restriction will be taken away after this last fiasco.
  19. Michael Weston-Burn Notice John Locke-Lost (although not as cool as he used to be) Ben- Lost Hiro Nakamura- Heroes Sylar- Heroes Dwight Schrute- The Office also, I agree with House
  20. Overrating "clutchiness" is a very dangerous thing to do. It leads to giving average pitchers #2 pitcher money (Suppan). I'm sure many on this board will claim that Suppan is better than Sheets if Suppan wins more games in the playoffs. I bet this happens even if Sheets' playoff ERA is lower than Suppan's because, "He just doesn't know how to win the game." That said, I do think there is a human quality to the game. I've played enough competitive sports to know that when the game is on the line at the end, there are some players that thrive and some that have the deer with headlights in their eye look. I don't think that Sheets falls into the deer in headlights group. He hasn't pitched great recently, but I'm more worried about arm fatigue due to pitching more this year than he has in a long time rather than, "not stepping up".
  21. Yes! I love this thing. Of course, now I will become completely unproductive and lose all my friends after making them watch zebras drink water for twenty minutes.
  22. It's unbelievable to me how hard people are on Ben Sheets. He's one of the best pitchers in the game. I think the fact that Sabathia has been ridiculously good makes people think that Sheets should be the same way. Sure, he didn't have a great night, but take out the one home-run and suddenly you have an above-average start. Sheets carried us during the first half, and has little run support in the second half. I'm not saying we should sell the farm to give him a four year deal, but to say it's inconsequential to have him leave is wrong. Seriously, it reminds me of the Capuano is our ace thread.
  23. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3541723 Well, at least we won't have to bring up the possibility of Gwynn Jr. getting traded for Maddux whenever trade talk comes up. He's fairly average now, but could help with Penny on the DL
