  1. I'm not saying the Brewers would pull off something like this, but the Indians are something like 20-9 since canning Eddie Murray. That stellar run and the firing could be completely unrelated...or maybe not. In reality, it's probably somewhere in the middle. I've thought a change wouldn't hurt since May, and nothing I've seen since has really changed my mind. And for the record, I think we have zero shot at the wild card either way. Regarding Lyle, he has something like a .650 OPS since May 15. I know he's streaky - but that is pathetic. Hopefully he gets it figured out again soon.
  2. The paper made Olsen sound fairly nasty this morning. Heater which touches 95 from the left side, hard slider, and attempting to master a changeup. It will probably be another Helms at 1B day.
  3. Some night to be stuck at work. When my friend called and told me Prince hit a 3-run HR to put the Crew ahead, I literally got goose bumps standing there listening on the phone. I'm still excited hours later. Congrats to Rickie and Prince - and I'm jealous of everyone that was there. Sounded like a great atmosphere at MP tonight.
  4. Another day, another disgusting game. Losing 5 in a row at home, and now starting an 8 game road trip to three good teams. I've got a really bad feeling our record is going to look just awful when we get back. Bad defense in general, making out after out on the bases, etc.. We're just awful right now IMO.
  5. I wouldn't mind seeing Magruder and Hardy flip-flop in order to get JJ out of the 8th spot. But hey, things have been working as is, so why change anything? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif We need a win bad. Go get 'em, guys.
  6. I'm also just back. A few observations which many other people probably made in this thread already: -Atmosphere in the park wasn't real good. Of course, no hits into the seventh inning will do that. -The Saenz RBI 1B was a real nice piece of hitting. Too bad our hitters can never do that. -Our hitters collectively look clueless. -The section 115 crowd was letting Helms have it pretty good. -Decent job by Cappy with far from his best stuff. Will need to have much better control in the future or he will get shelled. I'd say this was the most depressed I've left the park in a while. I think we're getting close to an early season slippery slope. I'm trying not to over-react (and I probably am)-, but I just don't much going well in HOU, SF, and STL. I'm officially on the fire Butch Wynegar bandwagon now as well. It's got a lot to do with last year in addition to our start offensively this year. The hitters regressing far outnumber the hitters progressing IMO, and it's time for new blood and ideas.
  7. due to a spur of the moment decision (just made 5 minutes ago), I'll be in the house as well. It's just too nice of a day to pass up being outside for 6-8 hours. C'mon offense - wake up tonight.
  8. I'm always fired up for some division-leading baseball at MP, even on April 15. Hopefully, with Sheets and Davis we can get 2 of 3 against the NL champs. Anyone else concerned the Cards come in hitting .228 collectively with a .715 team OPS? Hopefully they wait three more days before getting it figured out. I wish the playoffs started today...
  9. I'll chime in with the lineups today. Hall is the only non-regular for either team. MILWAUKEE AT CHICAGO CUBS -- LINEUPS MILWAUKEE CHICAGO CUBS AVG HR RBI AVG HR RBI Brady Clark CF .143 0 2 Corey Patterson CF .333 0 2 Junior Spivey 2B .350 1 3 Todd Walker 2B .471 0 3 Lyle Overbay 1B .267 0 3 Nomar Garciaparra SS .174 0 3 Carlos Lee LF .278 1 5 Aramis Ramirez 3B .263 1 4 Geoff Jenkins RF .167 0 1 Jeromy Burnitz RF .318 1 2 Damian Miller C .429 0 0 Derrek Lee 1B .300 1 5 Russell Branyan 3B .364 0 3 Todd Hollandsworth LF .294 1 3 Bill Hall SS .000 0 0 Michael Barrett C .278 1 4 Victor Santos RHP .000 0 0 Greg Maddux RHP .000 0 0 (NO RECORD) (0-1, 9.00) ----------- edit: Someone who doesn't watch the Crew often might look at Clark's .143 avg and think he's been terrible. But that .429 OBP out of the leadoff spot definitely says otherwise.
  10. I know the big plays get a lot of coverage, but it was cool to see Hardy execute a perfect hit and run. I listened to the final few innings at work, and this play got me fired up more than any other one. I'm hoping this is the year we finally have a competent #8 hitter instead of the BS we've had hitting down there the previous few years.
  11. I was hoping WGN radio would throw us a bone, but no luck there either. Looking like it's following the in-game box in this thread for me, if we have one.
  12. Isn't today's game on FSN North? According to this link it is. Although it's funny this is the first I've heard about it. Brewers Schedule -------------------------- EDIT: But it's not in the JS or on my sat. guide here at home. I think it's a false alarm.
  13. yeah, because those three hits were more important than costing us the game by being lazy DH, what did I miss? I missed the game this afternoon and was just browsing the box. I assume we must have another entry in the Rickie Weeks defensive woes file... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  14. W Helms c 4 0 0 0 Obviously just a typo, but Helms catching? That would be an ugly sight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Nice day by Rickie as well.
  15. Let's see if the vampire shows up in daylight! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Hopefully the people in the lawn seating remembered their hard hats just in case.
  16. Walk off home run by Alan Zinter. Where have we seen this before? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif At least this time it was in a ST game. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. I disagree...i think Helms is playing at the top of his game. He has one hit already this spring....doesn't he? But scoop, now every time Helms tries to pull outside pitches and plays pepper with the SS, he only gets thrown out by 7 steps instead of his customary 8 from last year. Those 15-20 lbs are making all the difference. And, he's a slow starter every year. Just give him until August 1. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Looks like the the Weeks error was a bad DP turn. His error Sunday a poor DP feed. Rickie's defensive progress will be just as important, if not more, than his offensive progress in AAA this year, IMO.
  19. Anybody else out there horribly conflicted about whether to root for or against Hardy this spring? Absolutely not. If you want to see a SS who has half a clue how to take a walk and catch the ball, you'd be wise to root for Hardy as well.
  20. So our undefeated record for 2005 ST is gone. The crew's individual performances are still noteworthy, however. 11,700 views for a split-squad spring training thread. Hopefully the interest in the Brewers keeps building. Good luck to El Caballo, his wife and his new baby, as well. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. Seeing how we gave up 18 runs, I'm not sure I want to see our pitching lines from that game anyways.
  22. After his first two AB's, I was beginning to think Lee was human. Having some legitimate right handed thunder in the lineup will help big time on O this year.
  23. Not to complain because everyone has been helpful, but for those of us who cannot or do not get the mlb radio can we do a Running Box Score. Brewers19 has a running PBP going for the SD game over on page 2 about halfway down. Thanks to CRicks and the others for keeping us non-listeners informed, as well. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Looks like Victor is having trouble in Maryvale. Giving up a lot of XBH's. 4-0 Pads.
  25. How'd the Crew score against SEA? 450-500 ft HR to right by Prince. With Spivey aboard.
