  1. Care to elaborate because I can't recall him ever being a jerk? And all 3 HBPs on Saturday were "accidental." Ri-i-i-i-i-ght.
  2. Of course, three Cardinals batters were hit on Saturday, i'm sure Hero Joe would say they were all accidents. I hate the Cardinals pompous attitude as much as anybody, But i'm really sick of people pumping up Maddon. He's a great manager, but he can be a jerk as well.
  3. Yea...a lot of jobs come with crummy situations. I did a year of student teaching and received $0. In fact, I had to pay in. I have a hard time sympathizing in this situation. I really don't understand what you're trying to say here. Is it that, because you had to endure a crappy deal at the beginning of your career that others should do so as well? That is utterly ridiculous. There are many career choices that seemingly attempt to crush the spirit of young people, either with poor pay, poor work/life balance, poor work environment, etc. There seems to be an attitude among people in these professions that, because they went through it, others should have to as well. I don't understand this! It seems to me that people who have lived through something that is unfair or unjust should be more interested in helping change the situation so others have it better. And yes JohnBriggs, they are victims. Being employees that are treated so poorly in an industry awash with money tells me they are being exploited and victimized.
  4. No matter what the situation, I hate the Brewers losing to the Cardinals. Hate, hate, hate it!!!!!
  5. It's not about where the Brewers pick, it's about the player they pick in that spot. The MLB draft is far from a sure thing at any spot, it's on the Brewers to draft and develop whatever player they get. The best player in the 2003 draft (Brewers take Rickie Weeks #2) is Adam Jones, who was taken 37th. Mike Trout was the 25th pick in 2009. Madison Bumgarner was picked 10th in 2007. Earlier pick does not equal best player. The important thing is to have a solid staff in place to draft the right player and develop him.
  6. This might be my favorite stat ever!
  7. Everything about the Cardinals is romanticized. If I ever hear "the best fans in baseball" crap about them again I'll vomit.
  8. I totally understand him being pi$$ed off and I think it's great that he thinks it's just a down year and that he can still pitch. That said, he's not going to get any sympathy (except from other players). This is nothing other than the Brewers looking to save money on the Garza contract this year(he gets a $500,000 bonus for 30 games started) and on the back end (vesting option costing team an additional $8 million kicks in if he pitches in 110 games during years 1-4 and he is not on the DL to end 2017). Nothing wrong with the team doing that. It never fails to amaze me that players seem to think they are entitled to get the chance to reach these vesting/bonus thresholds if they are healthy but no good. If they don't like the terms they shouldn't have signed the contract.
  9. It would be nice to see that kind of creative thinking from our front office. No kidding. I was really impressed by Atlanta when they used that to bring Touki Toussaint into the organization. My thought then echoes yours, that Melvin would never do that.
  10. Disagree, he has some improvement to do to crack that list. There are some MiLB players like Seager, Baez and MLB 2B like Dee Gordon and Ben Zobrist I would easily take over Segura as well. 1 Brandon Crawford 2 Jung-ho Kang 3 Xander Bogaerts 4 Adeiny Hechavarria 5 Carlos Correa 6 Francisco Lindor 7 Andrelton Simmons 8 Alcides Escobar 9 Asdrubal Cabrera 10 Jhonny Peralta 11 Wilmer Flores 12 Brad Miller 13 Didi Gregorius 14 Jose Iglesias 15 Troy Tulowitzki 16 Freddy Galvis 17 Zack Cozart 18 Eugenio Suarez 19 Erick Aybar 20 Ryan Goins 21 Nick Ahmed 22 Marwin Gonzalez 23 Marcus Semien 24 Jose Reyes 25 Ian Desmond 26 Ruben Tejada 27 J.J. Hardy 28 Eduardo Escobar 29 Elvis Andrus 30 Jordy Mercer A healthy list. I would argue that many of those guys are equal to or worse than Segura, certainly not clear-cut improvements. For the record, Baseball Prospectus has Segura ranked 14th among WAR for SS this season, although Kang is not listed as a SS. Couple the production with the fact he's cheap and controllable for a couple more years and he definitely would be chosen over a number of guys on that list.
  11. Doesn't it go back to the managers a lot of the time? I think Bochy is great, but he has that old-school mentality. As did/do Matheny, LA Russa, Girardi, Kirk Gibson (the worst) and on and on. I think part of it is that these guys are so competitive that anything can be taken as disrespect. Or maybe their egos are so large that they see everything as relating to them or their team somehow *cough* Hi dad! *cough*. I don'think it's too hard to imagine narcissism being a quality shared by the guys I mentioned above.
  12. But don't you think he's worth something? It doesn't seem smart to just let an asset go without getting something in return.
  13. A good idea, but i'm sure Segura views himself as a starting SS and it would take some convincing for him to take that role. A guy who has been an everyday player and better than replacement level the previous 2 years wouldn't expect to become a bench-warmer now while still young. And he's definitely not a Ben Zobrist type of player; not a guy who you move around to get his bat in the lineup.
  14. I've really enjoyed reading the responses to this topic (pats self on back for starting thread, then decides to flip tablet and stare down the forum to demonstrate level of awesomeness). I'm of the opinion that other players and coaches take offense way too easy. It sums like this is a recent phenomenon to me. When I was a kid AL Hrabosky walked around like he was crazy between pitches, yet I don't remember him being called out for his performances. Did LaRussa start all this? I don't know. I think the idea that players shouldn't be allowed to show emotion and/or have fun while playing seems ridiculous.
  15. I'm not looking for opinions on his playing ability, i'm looking for opinions on his attitude. Wall know that Carlos gets in the middle of crap, unfairly in my opinion. It happened again last night when the Yankees, while down 9-0, whined that he "showed up the pitcher" when he tossed his bat and [expletive deleted by moderator] at himself after a flyout. That lead to a small gathering on the field that didn't amount to anything. This happens with Gomez, but i'm inclined to blame the douchebaggery on others that seem to be against any display of emotion. Anone else have opinions?
  16. True. But the reason nobody mentioned him is the thread is titled "2016 Rotation" Really? Because no other possible bullpen names were mentioned? Really?
  17. I haven't seen anyone mention Cory Knebel in the bullpen. I think he's going to be a very good reliever, with a chance to pitch in high-leverage situations. Once K-Rod is moved I think he'll have pitched well enough to at least consider him for closer.
  18. That would be my thought as well. Parra is a nice player, but is hitting way above his career norms. Better to sell high now than to have a guy take the QO and not produce anywhere near what he has done this year.
  19. I think Beachy is done. He was pretty good for a few years, but multiple TJ surgeries in a short time make me think it's pretty much over for Beachy. I could see them giving it a shot on the cheap, but the odds of me winning the lottery are probably better than Brandon being an effective pitcher.
  20. I suddenly find myself hoping that the Astros play the Cardinals in the WS and Gomez does something and (gasp) celebrates, thereby irritating all of Cardinal nation. Because, you know, they are the arbiters of the "right way to do things."
  21. I was wondering that myself. I think there's a chance he slots at #1 ahead of Arcia, although it's probably close with those two. I also think Santana and Hader easily move into the top 10, maybe top 5, in the system given the levels they are playing at. If all the prospects keep good momentum the farm system will look much healthier going into 2016.
  22. Yep....he loved being a Brewer.....hope we get a chance to see him again at Miller Park For sure. My favorite player since Molitor. Worth the price of admission to the park. There's not many players I'd say that about. A real nice deal for the Brewers though. Hope to see Gomez playing in the post-season. I couldn't agree more. He brings color to a game where color is discouraged. His antics with the gum, the swinging his helmet off, his airmailed throws.....I will miss them all. My favorite quote from today is when Carlos said, "I'm playing and I feel really sexy."
