  1. This would be so awesome if it was true. Except maybe if you're a Phillies fan. I really wish there was some way to prove it true.
  2. I don't think it's a big deal. I kind of get the logic if Santana is going to lead off all the time. I don't think it's a good idea to give anybody who can't hit more ABs, but the SPs on this team aren't likely to get more than 2 ABs in a game anyway. I just don't think it's a big deal whether the pitcher hits 8th or 9th.
  3. Jeez, I hope Jungmann isn't hurt. Getting pulled after 80 pitches seems weird.
  4. I agree. I was just thinking about that while reading Jim Bowden's piece at ESPN.com where he ranks all 30 teams pitching staffs. Says he loves Wily Peralta but thinks the rest of the Brewer staff is 'just trying to keep them in games.' Not sure why every pitcher wouldn't do that. Seeing him love Peralta makes me wish Bowden was still a GM so Stearns could fleece him.
  5. I really like Jonathan Villar so far this year. Made some nice plays in the field and some nice ABs. A plus if he can competently play SS for most of the year.
  6. This year's home opener was not nearly as as bad as last year. Getting shut out by Kyle Kendrick for 7 innings last year was the worst since Mike Birkbeck's forgettable home opener outing against the Yankees. For me anyway.
  7. I'm with you Baldkin. I'm not a tailgater, but I am so excited to be at Opening Day tomorrow. Man I love Opening Day!
  8. I find it hard to believe that anyone can justify ranking them in the bottom half of the league. Even if those publications/websites put more emphasis on more advanced players it seems to me Milwaukee's depth would make up for it. Can you share how the 18, 18, and 20 rankings were justified?
  9. I think a lot of people on the board are skeptics when it comes to Jungmann, me included. He never pitched as well in the minors as he did for the Brewers last season and he had a ridiculous HR/FB ratio, one that is not sustainable. If you would have asked me before last season what he might be, I would have said a AAAA pitcher. Now I think he might have a mid-rotation ceiling, but that is probably overly optimistic. He's likely a back-end guy and, if he pitches that way there's a real chance he ends up back in AAA at some point this season.
  10. Obviously injuries have factored in to the makeup of the bullpen, but I think (and I believe Counsell thinks) that having some veterans in the pen that can teach some of the younger pitchers about professionalism and preparation is a good thing. Yes talent is the bottom line, but having a veteran or two to act as mentors is a good idea.
  11. I get all this, but what do you make of the 'commitment issues' that Bauer supposedly has? Did he say in an interview that baseball wasn't a priority or something like that? He'd be a nice get for next to nothing, but anyone who claims he has #1/#2 upside anymore is not being realistic. He's got 360 innings in MLB, he's not going to suddenly become an ace. I'm not saying he can't get better, but he's a lottery ticket, not piece you trade for and pencil in as a future rotation anchor.
  12. Coming from that way you take the Mitchell Blvd. exit (it's a left side exit) and turn right at the bottom of the ramp. Follow the cars. It's a pain to get out after the game, you just have to be patient. Short walk to the entrance from there.
  13. You like them I would imagine? Ever had any problems.
  14. I'm interested in getting one for various reasons, but I don't know a lot about them, so I have questions. 1. Do they impact browsing/streaming speeds? 2. Does it work to circumvent blackouts? 3. Are you less susceptible to virus attacks, or does that have more to do with security software? 4. Does anyone out there play Strat-O-Matic via netplay with a VPN? I ask because there have been some security software programs that have interfered in the past for me. 5. Benefits are anonymous browsing, more secure when using open wi-fi, and..........? Again, I'm new but I'm interested. Primarily to get around the blackout rules, but if I can make things more secure, particularly with my phone (I use unsecured wi-fi a lot) it would be a nice bonus. Any help is appreciated. When answering, keep in mind that I am not completely ignorant of technology, but I wouldn't say I'm much more knowledgeable than the average person either.
  15. Not sure where this fits best, but it's the write-up of the Brewers by Baseball Prospectus. Basically a review of the changes, why they were made, and the impact. Definitely worth a look. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=28718
  16. According to a lot of Twitter and JSOnline commenters this is the worst decision ever and Amanda Braun needs to be fired immediately. This feels like Braun and Jeter never got along well. It can be tough for an AD to come in and inherit a coach if their personalities don't mesh. And it feels like time anyway. Nothing against Jeter, he seems to be very well-liked by players and in the community. But he hasn't been much better than a .500 coach over 12 seasons and UWM certainly hasn't challenged for a conference championship lately. I guess it comes down to what UWM aspires to. Are they okay with being mediocre with a coach people like or do they aspire to be better, with the idea that there is risk in the unknown? I am surprised at the attitude of whatever-his-first-name-is Nicholas, who has now apparently cancelled his season tickets to men's BB and will no longer give any money to the athletic department. He is angry that he didn't have more influence, so he's taking his wallet and going home. People like that, in my experience, usually want more wins than Jeter has produced.
  17. That is a surpise. I figured he'd take the Wainwright stance.
  18. Sony Vue has tiers, like all other TV providers. The cheapest tier, at 29.99 does not have local sports. The 2nd tier, at 34.99, has FSN and the B1G Channel. No local channels yet. Those are only in the original 7 cities that were rolled out, and they charge an extra $10 for those.
  19. And this seems to be the point that everybody in Cardinal Nation missed when Jason Heyward decided to sign with the Cubs. Personnel notwithstanding, would anybody rather play for Mike Matheny than Joe Maddon? I'm sure personnel was an issue, but I'm pretty sure the attitude of the organization was part of it as well.
  20. Did anybody else see this? I mean, really? http://lacrossetribune.com/print-specific/columns/ben-bromley-brewers-are-letting-the-tail-wag-the-dog/article_742d4abd-90a5-5b73-b94b-c28e683a7825.html
  21. This! I like it when players make a play and celebrate, if it's a big enough deal. Jumping up to make the first down motion all the frickin' time gets old, as would a bat flip after a HR that takes a team from down 6 to down 5, or something like that. I'm also not a big fan of the scripted TD celebrations (except I really miss Aaron Rodgers doing the belt thing). What I really dislike is that there is a group of players who think ANY kind of celebration is wrong and they usually spout the 'right way to play the game' crap about it. Have some room for spontaneity.
  22. I couldn't stand him as a player, I don't need him back in my life. Powerful mustache though.
  23. That's the first thing I thought of when I read this. Nothing like saying the paid attendance is 25,000+ when barely 20,000 show up. Every team in every sport does that. Nobody does drop count anymore, everyone does tickets sold. It does make for some strange attendance numbers at times, but whatever. This is just a response to the fact that Milwaukee draws poorly early in the season every year. Attendance is never good early in the season and, like many businesses, they just want to get people in the door and spending money on other stuff.
  24. One thing the NFL does that would help MLB with regards to players outperforming their contracts early in their careers is pay out players who are young who play a lot and at a high level. Something like that would alleviate some of the issues with players like deGrom. Of course, the union would have to agree and I don't know that I see the old guys forgoing cash for the young guys.
