  1. You can judge for yourself, but I don't think it was anything worthy of suspension: http://mediamilwaukee.com/uncategorized/bill-johnson-uwm-suspension-audio-happened Thanks for the link. Those comments wouldn't be worthy of a suspension in my mind, although things related to university life are much different than the rest of society. And comments that stereotype any ethnicity (or anything else for that matter) are very poor choices.
  2. Losing Wagner just doesn't seem like that big a deal, particularly considering they got Anderson back. Neither is more than a back-end guy; they are essentially guys that will pitch well at times but don't have the stuff to sustain success. They might be part of a rotation for a few years, but a team would always be looking to upgrade from them. I don't get the people who want the guys Stearns traded to play poorly. The trade is done, there doesn't seem to be any reason to wish bad things on the traded players. His time here was done anyway, whoever was at SS this season was going to be nothing more than a placeholder for Arcia anyway.
  3. Well, yeah, but it's not like he threw gas last year. This is what he is and, if he can't command the curve, he can't get guys out. And as I type this Ricky Nolasco takes one to the warning track. Not saying he did, but all of his fastballs in the 2nd were 88mph except one at 87mph and one at 90mph. That seems low even for him. The new Moneyball: RHP who throw in the high 80s. Now we see why Stearns made the deal for Lind.
  4. I've see a lot of mock drafts that have Ellenson as a top 7 pick and Stone as a sure first-rounder. I think both could actually play their first seasons. It seems like the thing that holds back some big guys is a lack of offensive polish. Those 2 can at least shoot and pass. Both will need to adjust to the speed, athleticism, and physicality of the pro game. Ellenson will likely go earlier, so he has a better chance to play minutes.
  5. Not to mention his fast ball is sitting at 89-91...not going to work. Well, yeah, but it's not like he threw gas last year. This is what he is and, if he can't command the curve, he can't get guys out. And as I type this Ricky Nolasco takes one to the warning track.
  6. Jungmann was never going to be as good as he was last year, but I didn't expect him to be this bad. It seems like his curveball has no chance of being a strike right now.
  7. Man, Sano is a butcher in the OF. He has DH written all over him.
  8. Opens the door for Peralta to give up a 2-out, 2-run double.
  9. Garza was 4-6 weeks when he went on the DL, he's 2 weeks in. Braun as the DH with Flores and Nieuwenhuis in LF and CF, respectively?
  10. Yes, that is because generally, teams who are clearly not competing have sold before the season, and all the rest of the teams at least attempt to contend until July. The Brewers are a very unusual case, though, in that they are clearly not looking to compete this year, but still have a significant chip. They are great candidates to be exceptions to this rule. But somebody else has to want to make a deal too. I don't think a lot of teams are looking to make a big trade right now. So my point isn't that the Brewers should hang on to Lucroy until closer to the deadline, it's that there may not be any partners to make a deal with yet. The serious offers will start coming in a month from now, when teams feel like they know more about their team and how good they'll be.
  11. Reed is the only guy in AAA outfield who's on the 40 man and is a RH hitter. Or if you want a true CF without starting Phillips arby clock, bring up Tyrone Taylor. He can't hit worse than Broxton. Flores isn't really a CF either but he's been out there. Reed's no Broxton defensively but how long can you go with a guy with an OPS under .200? I say no more than 3 more weeks. Michael Bourn's out there for major league minimum too, but oh yeah, they're tanking. Can't win too many. I can't imagine them winning any more games with Bourn than with Broxton. Bourn is terrible, has been terrible for a few seasons now. He's at the end and the Brewers aren't bringing in a guy like that when they can give other guys a shot (Broxton, Nieuwenhuis, Reed, Taylor).
  12. I'm looking forward to seeing Jungmann get back on the mound after his forgettable outing against the Cardinals. If he stinks again I might transition into panic mode for him. I'm already way past that for Peralta. I know it's early, but I'm emotional.
  13. Not sure about pinch running, but the answer is "Hurricane" Herb Washington, 31 SB 0 H Plus these Brewers: Mel Stocker, 4 SB 0 H Greg Martinez, 2 SB 0 H Broxton, now up to 3 SB 0 H Wow Washington never even had 1 PA, so all 31 were as a pinch runner. Some of the others on the list at least have some PAs He was a Charlie Finley special in Oakland. One of my favorite baseball cards ever, his position was pinch-runner on the card.
  14. So, Bill Johnson, the long-time play-by-play announcer for UW-Milwaukee quit in an epic rant against the athletic department. It was pretty funny in it's way. One of the things that was referenced in the response from the athletic department was Johnson's suspension for a game this season for a racially insensitive remark. Does anyone remember what that was about?
  15. I don't think the Brewers view Reed as a CF in any way, so I don't know that he would be Broxton's replacement anyway. He's only started 24 games in CF in the last 3 seasons. It seems they view him as a guy who can play it in a pinch, but profiles as a corner. It just doesn't seem like they'd bring him up and immediately put him in as the starting CF.
  16. Peralta only pitches every 5 days.
  17. From BP Milwaukee: http://milwaukee.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2016/04/13/wily-peraltas-discouraging-start/ Nothing earth-shattering, but good analysis of why he can't get anyone out and evidence to back it up.
  18. [sarcasm]I'm so glad the Brewers went back to Maldonado as Peralta's catcher, it's clearly making a difference.[/sarcasm]
  19. I'd guess it has more to do with Rivera than Villar. Per several reports, Villar 'tweaked' his ankle.
  20. Anybody remember the last major deal that took place in April? Or May? I just don't see it happening until June at the earliest. Teams don't want to deal now, then have the season fall apart for some other reason. Teams will wait until at least 1/3 into the season and, if they are in contention at that point and they need a catcher, they will start talking about a deal. I'm not saying this line of thinking is right, but it's how it works. Unless I've forgotten about some major trades that happened in April or May. Then, nevermind.
  21. I don't think there are red flags as much as just a feeling that this guy isn't as good as some of what's been at the top of the draft in the past. And there are a lot of teams who don't even want to consider a HS pitcher early in the draft. And the fact that he is from New Jersey. So, he's not Kershaw, he's young, and he's not from 'baseball country.' Those seem to me to be the red flags, at least as far as I've heard. I've also heard 'makeup issues' regarding Delvin Perez. No idea what they might be, but it's a rumor that's out there.
  22. It is impressive. I wish I was there. I love Miller Park. After freezing my nether regions in some early season games at County Stadium, I am so grateful for the roof. It would have been a terrible environment on Monday had it been open air. When I look at the Twins, Cubs, White Sox, etc. trying to play early season games in this weather, it just makes me happy that the Brewers have the facility that they do.
  23. Anybody ever get it? Is it any good? Worth the money?
