  1. This has been up on the Brewers' site for a bit, but I didn't see it linked yet so... Brewers in talks with 11th-round pick McClanahan, club's top unsigned draftee, has offer to Arizona State By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com LINK
  2. Seems like the Kissamee "Cerveceros" may be the ticket they are looking for.
  3. Webb threw 90 innings in his 1st season back from Tommy John. Is it likely he pitches much more this summer until fall instructionals?
  4. So any chance of New Orleans? Doesn't get us to the IL but its better than current. If I was Gord Ash, that is who I would be targeting. I don't know if bridges were burned in the 1990s, but 90 minutes drive from Biloxi would be convenient. They have had (1) winning season in 7 years under the Marlins so they may be receptive to a change. The Brewers should offer to finish spring with exhibition games on the gulf coast annually. And New Orleans probably has plenty of flight options.
  5. Because that outlier year contained a corresponding jump in velocity and strikeout rate? I interpreted that as signs of development. Unfortunately, his command has fallen off a cliff so far this season.
  6. Since Erceg likely hasn't faced much competition at the NAIA level this spring, I think his initial placement is appropriate. Nothing is preventing him from earning a few midwest league ABs, for a hopeful Timber Rattlers playoff run later this year. Erceg came up in the Fangraph chat yesterday. I guess after panicking over Brexit, Greenspan shifted his attention to underrated draft prospects. Chat Link
  7. Arent the Brewers down ~$12.5k availble on the penalized 5% overage if he doesn't sign because their total bonus pool goes down by ~$250,000?
  8. Brewers extend Biloxi contract to 2020
  9. Wonder if something came up on his physical. While he reportedly agreed to slot, it'd still lower the amount the Brewers can go over without draft pick penalties. Hopefully just a technicality at this point.
  10. That would make the outfield options pretty left handed and limited in terms of flexibility. Arcia has pronounced career platoon splits and isnt an option for center like Broxton. He actually has 115 wRC+ for his career vs. right handers. Not to pick on Presley but there is no point to a 31 year old with a .263 wOBA on a rebuilding club. He is my vote if they can make this happen.
  11. If all it costs is money (and not mine), I'm on board. Certainly more upside than Presley. If he figures out Major League pitching, its not like we have a 1st basemen of the future. Hasn't there been attitude concerns though from the Twins? Might not want him too close to his brother.
  12. I'm not sure a 31 year old oft-injured DH is going to have alot of value to us. Estrada was coming off a season in which he led the league in home runs allowed with a negative fWAR and was pretty close to a non-tender candidate. Each teams value different things, but if Guerra matches his projections of a >K/inning and ~4 ERA over the next month; I would suspect he will generate interest.
  13. His last (2) starts may be a sign that things are catching up to him. The walks have caught up to the strikeouts and balls have landed over the fence. I like him more than most. Projections love his strikeout potential. His splitter is a plus offering. I've streamed him 4 times in fantasy and been rewarded with a 1.52 ERA and will again tonight vs. a Dodgers offense that surprisingly ranks in the bottom 5 in wOBA. Unfortunately, hitters don't seem to swing at his fastball when it is outside of the zone. I'll speculate that his short height results in minimal vertical movement so hitters can judge location better. There is a real dearth of quality options right now, so if he delivers the next few starts I could see some interest being generated in him, much like buzz about Fiers prior to the deadline last year. I could see the Brewers getting an organizational top 10 prospect for him.
  14. Here is SI article discussing current top prospects. Bleacher Report Article 2017 Baseball America Draft Watch List
  15. Knock on wood, when is the last time we didn't sign a top 10 pick (Dylan Covey aside)? Seems like Jemile Weeks (and that seemed like a change of heart) but maybe Im missing a few. The timing of the McClanahan selection has me optimistic that the Brewers knew where they were at after the 10 slot bonus picks and think they can get it done. I understand there has been significant management changeover, but if there is one aspect of the Brewers amateur scouting that has been praiseworthy; It is understanding player signability and bonus demands, and managing to those.
  16. He admits to being “kind of your standard college right-hander, 88 to 92; I’m not going to blow guys’ doors off.” He will, however, fill up the strike zone with an artist’s touch. Interesting article on Perrin
  17. One question I've wondered is there a limit to a endorsement contract to skirt signing bonus restrictions a minor league player can sign? I would assume there would be some restrictions with any company affiliated with the ownership group of a team, but I could see apparel companies fighting to get in on the ground floor if another Bryce Harper were to come up. If someone were to start a go-fund me page to get Jared Horn $3 million (not feasible but in theory) to say Brewerfan is his favorite unofficial fan site of the Milwaukee Brewers and it happened to coincide with him signing a $100K slot contract, would that be within the rules? What the powerball at?
  18. Tyrone Perry's 146wRC+ and pretty good strike zone judgement last year in Arizona gets him a repeat assignment. Unfair to speculate but disappointing.
  19. Competitors care about winning every year. Guys play well, you win. Guys don't play well you lose, fans lose interest and all the sunny talk about what 2019, or 2022 or what is it now? 2025? is just that, sunny talk and an excuse for not putting a major league product on the field for fans paying major league prices. It's as simple as that. Every season has value. Every single one. I agree, well sort of. The Brewers playoff odds sit at 1.7% per baseball prospectus. While I don't favor mortgaging future assets or deviating from the longterm plan of moving the organization to a position to be a good bet to make the playoffs at some point in the future, as a fan I'm going to keep rooting for wins until that playoff odds become 0%. You can say absolutes like "the Brewers have no chance to make the playoffs." There is a 98.3% chance you are right but that doesn't mean that you are right.
  20. With South Carolina and Louisville being eliminated yesterday looks like 30th rounder Dalton Brown, RHP, Texas Tech University and 31st rounder Ryan Aguilar, 1B, University of Arizona are the only (2) Brewers' draftees remaining in the CWS.
  21. Some encouragement for those lamenting the lack of high upside pitching yesterday. Of coarse, even if lightning strikes, the timeline of the below puts the Cy Young season coming at around 2024, but patience.
  22. A couple of thoughts: -The argument for Ray by the scouting department must have been compiling for our analytically-inclined GM to pull the trigger despite the lack of elite stats. While scouting the stat line isnt a robust process, Stearn's moves have shown he places considerable value on player's stats with the highest correlation for future success. -Ray is athletic enough to have a high ceiling and I'm excited to see what he does in the pro ranks. People love comparisons, but every player is unique in some way. I doubt he had access to the best coaching and facilities on Chicago's south side not to mention the limited season. His progression at Louisville might not be great but his BABIP dropping .060 points a season probably had some luck involved in that if you just focus on the OPS. -That being said, I'll go on record as "don't like the selection" camp, but its not like Puk and Groome didn't have significant flags. Groome couldnt maintain velocity over starts this spring and Puk has general inconsistencies, wildness, and nagging injuries. -Erceg's lack of walks against inferior competition scares me. Makes Matt Carpenter seem like an odd comparison to me. -Disappointing that the Brewers' selections didn't align with Rortvedt and Lux. State doesn't produce much elite talent so it would have been cool to nab one.
  23. I realize Dakota Hudson wore out here recently, but his fall surprises me. He had some lights out games this year.
  24. I realize the status of MLB's investigation is pending, but it is still poop that MLB lets the Cards have 3 of the top 34 picks.
