  1. Lux up to 13? I guess I can stop dreaming that he is on the board for round 2.
  2. Wait, what? The guy with the 162 wRC+ in his first professional season was a mistake over the guy who has yet to pitch professionally?
  3. The White Sox select Zach Collins, C, University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL) @ 1.10
  4. The Tigers select Dakota Hudson, RHP, Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS) @ 1.9 8 of 12 pitchers the Tigers have selected in the 1st round since 2000 have come from the college ranks and they get the 2nd best in the draft here. Also, probably some ulterior motive of Corey Ray to the hometown Sox makes sense @ 1.10
  5. I would take Moncada 10/10 times over Arcia. If Arcia wan't such a good defensive SS, he wouldn't be top 10 prospect Arcia did put up a 126 wRC+ at age 21 in AA. For comparison sake, Nomar Mazara put up a 123 wRC+ and Francisco Lindor put up a 109 wRC+. Not sayng Arcia will see immediate success at the big leagues that those two have, but Arcia has plenty of upside at the plate.
  6. One thing I've wondered is if a prep pitcher at the top of the draft would tell the Rockies at 1.4 not to draft them even threatening to go to IMG or a JC for a year if they do select them. I realize it would come off very poorly and self-absorbed, and teams want to see some appreciation and humility from prospects. But even Kershaw and Bumgarner have ERAs over 4 for their careers in Coors, its just not a good place for the longterm good of your career.
  7. The Padres select Blake Rutherford, OF, Chaminade College Prep (Simi Valley, Ca) @ 1.8 Blake is from Cali and so are the Padres. That's all I got for reasoning on this one.
  8. read, its cash or player to be named later. Why would you cut someone if you can get something (anything) in return? I'm speculating that the cash required to acquire Bradley isnt enough to cover the administrative costs of the transaction. Probably should be blue, but as far as players in affiliated ball goes I can't imagine less value than a 26 year old middle reliever with a 6+ ERA in AA who doesnt throw particularly hard. Much like the Cotts and Hunter Morris transactions, I suspect the PTBNL will never materialize. Who Knows? Maybe some scout from the Braves saw a flaw they think they can correct and they actively pursued him...
  9. We should've just cut him. The cash we are probably getting isn't worth our accountant's time to properly track it. I guess he was passable last year in AA, but I've long given up hope.
  10. I don't think the call has to be made yet. Peralta's last 3 starts since Counsell publicly questioned his spot in the rotation he has been 4.5 ERA/4.57 FIP/3.85 xFIP. Not great but trending in the right direction. A couple of bad starts and it is him, but I think he can justifiably hold his spot if he can throw a couple of quality ones. If Davies is mediocre over his next couple starts I could see him getting a temporary demotion that conveniently reduces service time.
  11. The Marlins select Delvin Perez, SS, International Baseball Academy and High School (Ceiba, P.R.) @ 1.7 I don't know what the Marlins long term plan is. They have a lot of pieces but not enough depth and not much on the farm. I could see them going with a Dakota Hudson or Zach Collins that may be able to help sooner. But 9 of their last 11 1st round picks come from the high school ranks so....
  12. I doubt Gomes is going to continue to have a sub .200 BABIP and I doubt Cleveland is willing to pull the plug with a far more pressing need in the outfield with Byrd suspended and no timetable for Brantley. We could speculate on Braun but with noone showing up for games to pay his contract and their recent emphasis to improve team defense I doubt he they go in on him.
  13. The Athletics select Dakota Hudson, RHP, Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS) @ 1.6 The last time they picked a RHP named Hudson from an SEC school it went OK, so they go back to the well.
  14. Villar and Guerra have been worth 2.5 wins which is pretty darn good. Nieuwy is striking out far too much but is still on pace for 4 fWAR/600 PA. Flores quietly put up a 96wRC in May and that is pretty much what every projection has him doing in his going forward in his age 24 season. Not much you can do about Nolin, Jones, or Liriano. May still help this franchise, may not. I don't think Jungmann or Rivera were potential nuggets. Besides being with the organization previously, both had significant red flags. Even when Jungmann was rolling, his regression was predictable. Rivera had a .270 OBP in a hitter's paradise in AAA. There was little reason to expect him to hit in the bigs this year. The goal wasn't for the scrap bin to make us a contender, but get us closer to the ultimate goal by finding useful pieces. I'm having a hard time calling it disappointing compared to previous strategy of paying little attention to the fringes of the roster and coming with a locked everyday lineup.
  15. The Brewers select Delvin Perez, SS, International Baseball Academy and High School (Ceiba, P.R.) (that's a real thing?) @ 1.5
  16. The Rockies select Riley Pint, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. (Overland Park, KS) @ 1.4
  17. The Braves select Jason Groome, LHP, Barnegat High School (Barnegat Township, NJ)
  18. As crazy as it sounds, the Cardinals next 4 games are @ Washington, while we draw Atlanta and Cincinnati. We currently sit 3.5 games back. There is a reasonable probability we could be within striking distance when they come to town Memorial Day. On the latter, I'd love for that to be the case... But over the last 2 weeks (since 5/11), Perez is hitting .250BA/.276OBP/.562OPS with a 47 wRC+ and 7Ks/1BBs over 29PA. I just can't see what you are so excited about or evidence that anything has changed.
  19. The Reds select Kyle Lewis, OF, Mercer University @ 1-2. The Reds LFers have combined for a 88 wRC+ since the start of the 2011 season, worst in baseball.
  20. I realize Guerra did not have his A command today but I struggle to understand pulling your starter at 84 pitches and 5 shutout innings to bring in a 6+ FIP pitcher in a 1-run game. Oh well, hindsight is perfect.
  21. Yadiel Hernandez Cuban Stats His last season in Cuba was he hit .369BA/.509OBP/1.045OPS over 369 PA. -Ben Badler, Tweet MLB TRADE RUMORS
  22. Can anyone confirm this is still the case? This article gives hope that the Brewers may be available online but it doesn't look like FS Wisconsin is offered via the sling website:
  23. Phillies Select AJ Puk, LHP, University of Florida-Gainesville @ 1.1
  24. Exactly. We've traded away a cumulative 0.3 WAR so far. Segura (1.0 WAR) Tyler Wagner (0.4 WAR) Davis (0.1 WAR) K-Rod (0.0 WAR) Rogers (0.0 WAR) Sardinas (-0.4 WAR) Lind (-0.8 WAR) Complaints about light returns or selling low seems like just looking for a reason to complain.
