  1. At the time I was ok with the move because we needed depth in our system. Gatewood was at one point considered a top ten pick but was falling pretty quick and Harrison was thought to be a tough sign. Personally I wanted Grant Holmes but Medeiros wasn't a terrible selection. He actually did ok last year but as it seems like as with pretty much all of our top prospects this season he's having a terrible year. Now that our system has more depth we should abandon the under slot signing and go for the highest ceiling. I hated the Ray pick but now that we have him I hope he does well. I'm hoping for top ten picks the next two or three years with high ceiling players with all those picks.
  2. I fully expect the Brewers to be sitting with a top five pick come September then finish the season like 21-8 to go from 5 to 12. That's what they do.
  3. Would Houston have any interest in Gennett or Carter? How about Lucroy and one of those guys for Colin Moran, Musgrove, AJ Reed and another piece. Moran and Reed can hold down third and first respectively, Villar can shift to second and Arcia can come up. Or Villar can stay at short and Hill can play second. Probably not the highest ceiling return but it definitely speeds up the rebuild. If Reed and Moran work out you have your infield set for years. Keep Braun as your veteran presence. Is that not enough in return? Too much?
  4. Didn't Escobar play 2B for a few games while he was in AAA and do pretty badly there? RE: Villar. I think his greatest value will be as a utility guy. I'd think him showing he can play 2B and 3B would increase his value more than him plying all of his games at SS.
  5. See I would think moving Villar around would build up his value more. Maybe we can include him in a Braun or Lucroy trade to increase the return.
  6. Versatility is nice for borderline MLB players whose value is increased because they can play multiple positions. Yadiel Rivera for instance. Starting shortstops, especially ones of Arcias caliber, should not be moving around the diamond to learn new positions unless there is a permanent move in mind. When he plays he's going to play shortstop, even if there is an injury and second or third baseman. I don't understand why they'd be playing him at a position other than shortstop.
  7. Come on. Possibly the best overall catcher in baseball and a top 10 in all of baseball prospect and the Mets would "hang up laughing"? They may well turn it down but personally I think they'd be dumb to considering their offense right now and who they'd still have in the rotation. I'm not suggesting the Brewers offer it because I think it'd be dumb on their behalf. They can get decent pitching prospects back for Lucroy without giving up Arcia. Let's face it the Mets are a bad match. What we want they wont offer and what they'll offer we won't want. Let's move on from them.
  8. If we are going to trade with Texas I'd ask for pitching: Tate and Ortiz would headline the deal then maybe Brett Martin to finish it out. Two top 65 prospects and a guy that could be a back of the rotation starter.
  9. Stearns is the GM. If he wanted a pitcher they'd take a pitcher m Sweet. Maybe we can draft like this three more times then take those three picks, add in Ray, and we can trade for an ace for half a season. I'm sorry for the sarcasm it's not directed at you. I'm just extremely frustrated by this. Not only did we not take the best pitcher we didn't even take the best outfielder.
  10. I contend this is David Stearns playing it safe because he doesn't want to screw up his first draft. Problem is he just screwed it up.
  11. Who needs a top of the rotation starter when you can take a high floor outfielder. How can you justify this pick. Seriously
  12. So two of Puk Pint and Groome will be available. I swear to the lord if we take Corey Ray........
  13. Just a comment on our current outfielders. I agree that after Clark and Phillips the talent level goes down. I'm extremely disappointed by Taylor and Coulter This year. But the opportunities to get good outfielders are so much more prevalent than the opportunities to get good pitchers. Solid outfielders are usually cheaper in FA. Teams are generally more willing to trade outfield prospects. And it's usually easier to get one inthe draft. Plus you can stick someone in the outfield if they can't cut it in the infield (Braun and Coulter for example) Look at last year we got Clark at 15. Unless the draft is absolutely stacked you're not getting a potential #1 at 15. I just think we HAVE to take Groome Pint or Puk if available, maybe even Garrett if they think he's TOR potential.
  14. I think he could bring back a Zach Davies type prospect. A serviceable pitcher but not someone whose going to any all star games.
  15. Pint. Groome. Pint. Groome. Pint. Groome. Maybe if I say it enough it'll come true. I realize there's risk but if are always concerned about risk you'll never draft a pitcher. Everyone has risk. Who'd have though Arnett and Bradley would be such duds? Take the guy with the highest ceiling. Pint. Groome. Pint. Groome.
  16. Sweet! All we need is a utility player and a bullpen arm and we are a playoff contender. Go do it Doug....er David In all seriousness I really hope this better than expected record doesn't change our plan. We still need to move Lucroy. And we should still look to move other pieces (Smith, Carter, Gennett, etc). Our pitching is still questionable. I just don't think we should be counting on Junior Guerra and Zach Davies to get us over the top.
  17. If we don't get Groome or Pint then I'm fine with Collins. I think Puk and Lewis are definitely gone before our pick. But I want a pitcher.......bad.
  18. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this draft. I'm feeling as though we're going to wind up with an OF or an under slot guy when I think we need a high end pitcher. I believe Puk Pint or Groome will be there and I believe we should take whichever one is. With a better than expected team so far this season I don't think we can count on getting a high enough draft pick next year to get a front end starting prospect. This may be our best shot.
  19. Gomez was under contract for more than half a season. It was one and a half, just like Lucroy. That being said, I'm very underwhelmed by these trade ideas I've seen pop up for Lucroy. There should be no major leaguer in our return. It should be 2-3 high ceiling prospects.
  20. If Collins could stay at catcher id be all for it but he's another all hit no defense player who you'd likely have to stick in RF or First Base and get below average defense. It's players like him, and Schwarber, that get me so irritated that MLB doesn't fix the DH issue. It's BS that an NL team has to find somewhere for those guys, and guys like Khris Davis and Prince Firlder, to play while AL teams can just DH them.
  21. I'm surprised by your comments about Directv. I actually consider their customer service to be pretty good. Pretty much every time I tell them my bill is too high they find a discount somewhere. When I moved not only did they do it entirely for free but for some reason they gave me the NFL Sunday ticket for free too. Now you do have to sign a contract which sucks and RoCo is right about how when it rains the service is disrupted. And I haven't looked elsewhere but I'm sure there are cheaper options. But I'm satisfied enough with it to just keep paying the bills. That's more than I can say for my Sprint cell phone service whom I terminated a month after I moved. Just keep in mind that the first person you talk to when you call isn't usually a directv employee they are some cheap contract employees. If you're unsatisfied at all ask to talk to a supervisor.
  22. The only way I'll be ok with Rutherford is if Puk, Perez, Groome and Perez are all gone. And even then I'd prefer Senzel and Lewis. In other words I really hope he's not our pick.
  23. That's not really fair. Guys in the later rounds are generally going to be harder to develop anyway just because theoretically they are not as good. Additionally, it's not like the Brewers have done a bang up job developing college first rounders either. Bradley and Arnett were busts. Jungmann made it but has struggled pretty bad since his hot start. We did hit on Nelson and Thirnburg out of the college ranks, but we also hit on Lopez and Gallardo out of HS. I think the Brewers went through a phase in which pretty much every pitcher they took was bad. Things have gotten better though. I still prefer Groome but I'd be fine with Pint. Those are my top two.
  24. I prefer Groome but if we walk away with Pint I'll be happy. I just hope we don't over think this. We desperately need a frontline starter in this organization. If a frontline starter is available you take him. Forget about trying to figure out the odds of him making the majors vs the odds of, say, a Corey Ray making the majors. I also hope we don't put too much faith in potential tools. Remember when TB took Beckham over Posey because of all of Beckhams potential tools? We need to get this right.
