  1. Gray for Ponce.
  2. I’m saying I think it’s a little ridiculous to assume all of these starting pitchers the Brewers have put in the bullpen have had to go into the pen because their personality won’t allow them to succeed as a starter. This isn’t a personality thing. It’s strategy. And for whatever reason the Brewers strategy is to use their top starting pitching prospects as relievers. I don’t agree with it. I was fine with Hader because I thought he ended up in the pen anyway but I don’t see the reasoning behind starting Brent Suter and Aaron Wilkerson but putting Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff in the bullpen. Meanwhile an actual reliever who’s has nothing but success, Nick Ramirez, has yet to get the call. Because the older veteran guy was a lefty. Had the batter been a lefty it would have been Jennings. But even so that’s one situation. One situation doesn’t completely rule out the argument, particularly since the argument involves starting pitchers, not relievers.
  3. I’ve never understood the whole “get their feet wet” argument. These guys are professionals who have been playing baseball their entire lives. All of a sudden they get to the majors and play in front of bigger crowds and they forget how to pitch? Or they get so nervous they can’t have success but if they pitch out of the bullpen that isn’t an issue? We don’t need to baby these guys. I honestly just think the Brewers as an organization have more faith in older, veteran guys even if they aren’t as good. They way Corbin Burnes is pitching I don’t see any reason not to let him start games if we need a starter. But they just won’t do it.
  4. I’ve given up on trying to understand why the Brewers do what they do with their pitching prospects. Aaron Wilkerson started a game not long ago. While Burnes sat in the pen.
  5. I really don’t know how much of a positive effect a hitting coach can have on a team. But in addition to Arica and Santana, Braun, Pina, and Shaw are all having worse years than last. That’s 5 of the 8 guys you were counting on to be near everyday players. When I look at how many guys are underachieving vs how many pitchers seem to be overachieving I have to think coaching has to be a part of it. At this point I see no valid reason to keep Coles.
  6. Disney needs to sit down and figure out a long term plan, similar to what they did with the Marvel Universe. It seems like they keep piecing these things together based on the reaction of the last movie. It’s not that I don’t like the Clone Wars and I’m sure I’ll watch it. But it’s been over for how long now? Asohka already made appearance in Rebels where she and Thrawn kind of disappeared with no real explanation as to whether or not we’ll ever see them again. Now we go back in time with her again to the Clone Wars? The Star Wars universe is an absolute mess right now.
  7. Considering what Oakland gave up for Familia they should have traded for him.
  8. Honestly if he can just get that average up in the .270-.280 range while keeping the same numbers elsewhere (maybe cut down on Ks a bit) then I don’t think I’d have much to complain about.
  9. Except I’m not. The argument that we’re only looking at this year doesn’t apply when we are talking about getting a guy that will be here two additional years. Realmuto helps immediately this year but also helps next year, when, assuming my proposal is accepted, you also have Hiura and you can maybe add a reliever as opposed to paying Grandal. The rotation has plenty of options both for next year and down the road. I don’t like the idea of giving up Burnes but I’m also not convinced he’s in the rotation next year because we have too many other veteran options. Last year we desperately needed pitching and we passed. This year we desperately need hitting. I hope we don’t pass again.
  10. Probably not. But that doesn’t change the fact that Realmuto likely improves the offense much more than Dozier does. So theoretically if you trade for Dozier you’d have to trade more prospects to get another player or two that would improve the offense as much as Realmuto would.
  11. So how do we legitimately improve our offense? Does anyone really think Brian Dozier is the missing link?
  12. For the people saying my offer was too much: I agreee it is a lot to give up. But this deal doesn’t get done without either Hiura or Burnes. We can’t tell them we want probably the best offensive catcher in baseball, a legitimate all star who still has two years of control after this year, but we refuse to give up our top prospects. Hiura is likely more valuable than Burnes so if you want to keep Hiura you have to sweeten the secondary pieces. Lutz and Gatewood are not headliners. Lutz is in A ball and I’d still be surprised if Gatewood ever turns into a regular major leaguer. Perhaps we can offer up Woodruff instead of Peralta or Grisham instead of Ray but they aren’t accepting a deal based around a bunch of average to slightly above average prospects.
  13. I’m starting to think maybe Realmuto is the way to go. Offensively he’d probably have a bigger effect than anyone else available. We get him for two more years so that would help mitigate the loss of prospects. If there was some way we could pry him lose without giving up Hiura imagine the offense we could have as soon as next season. So this is what I’m thinking. The obvious piece is Nottingham. We’d have no use for him and he’s a major league ready catcher Miami can put right into their lineup. But he’s obviously not a headliner. If we have any hope of keeping Hiura we’d have to give them Burnes and either Peralta or Woodruff. I’m guessing they’d prefer Peralta. That still probably won’t do it. So we add Corey Ray. Ray, Nottingham Burnes and Peralta. Yeah it’s a ton to give up but it is probably what you’d need to do. So my questions are is it enough and if so is it worth it?
  14. 1) Syndergaard for Hiura, Peralta, Ponce, and Grisham. 2) Britton for Lopez and KJ Harrison 3) Dozier for Supak In the off-season sign a reliever and a guy capable of playing SS and 2B who is more offensive minded than defensive. I still think Arcia needs a chance to reclaim SS. We keep Ray, Woodruff and Burnes. Them, Lutz and Turang are our new top 5.
  15. I’m just curious but what does “available as depth” mean? After the year Guerra has had you’re going to move him to the pen? Or the minors? I don’t mean to pick on you I’m just pointing out we have more than enough depth pitching wise for next year. More than enough. Trading a guy or two, I’d argue, isn’t just ok it’s necessary. I personally want to keep Burnes but if we trade Peralta and/or Woodruff for a quality veteran I’d be perfectly ok with that.
  16. First off can we agree not all “rentals” are equal? Machado is not your average mlb player. People should focus more on who the player is. Instead all some focus on is the fact that his contract is up after this year. Additionally, just because Machado would have been a rental doesn’t automatically make it a bad deal. CC Sabathia was a rental. How many people are complaining about that trade? It all depends on who you give up for him and even then it’ll take years to know how good of a trade it turned out to be. I don’t think anyone would have argued we should have traded Hiura and Burnes to get Machado. But we do have some decent talent that, in all honestly, probably won’t make an impact at the major league level. So trading those guys, while it may hurt our system ranking, really wouldn’t have much of an effect on the franchise. I don’t know what was offered to get Machado. But I’d have been perfectly ok moving the Woodruffs, the Gatewoods, the Laras, the Diplans or the Ponces of the system to get him.
  17. I understand but what good does stashing prospects in AAA or the bullpen for 3 years waiting for a spot or an injury do? At some point these guys start to lose their value. We more than anyone have to capitalize on these guys values. That means not only trading them before it becomes clear they aren’t major league quality but also giving them opportunities to succeed when they are ready. If Corbin Burnes, for instance, isn’t given a legitimate opportunity to win a rotation spot next year then I think we’ll be wasting his talent. But then again I’d say the same thing about Peralta. And Woodruff. But in reality there is just no chance all three will have the ability to win rotation spots next year. Not with Chacin Anderson Nelson and Davies all still around. That’s why I’d have no problem whatsoever using two of them to acquire Degrom or Syndergaard.
  18. Hiura maybe but Peralta and even Burnes? Next season for starting pitching option we have: Chacin. Guerra. Davies. Anderson. Nelson. Woodruff. Peralta. Burnes. Suter. Trading away a Peralta or a Woodruff would not create a hole. It was actually ease a logjam a bit, especially if they are traded for a pitcher. Ideally in the next year or two there would be a spot for Peralta, Burnes AND Woodruff but I don’t see that happening. So trading one of them now isn’t the end of the world. Obviously they have to be part of the right deal. I’m glad Burnes wasn’t traded for Machado. But if we’re going for Syndergaard or Degrom heck yeah I’d include two of Peralta Burnes Ortiz or Woodruff.
  19. I was just gonna say. Just because we trade a few prospects doesn’t mean we are “emptying the farm”. I can’t wven tell you how many times I heard that last year when I advocated for Sonny Gray. The vast majority of prospects fail. A few years ago prospect lovers would have had a heart attack over the thought of trading Jorge Lopez. Now the guy is a throw in....the fourth piece of a trade. I completely understand the need to build from within and not make foolish trades. But not all prospects succeed. And not all prospects have a place on the roster. We can’t just hang on to every single prospect who has had a modicum of success or has an above average tool or two. Building from within is certainly a strategy we need to employ. But so too is cashing in your assets before their value tanks.
  20. All rentals aren’t equal. Machado is putting up MVP type numbers. If we have to move Ortiz or Woodruff, who I think both end up in the bullpen anyway, I think we should have.
  21. According to John Heyman the Dodgers are now the leaders.
  22. Wouldn’t Gilbert Lara be an example too? Or Trent Grisham? I understand the idea of tools but at some point actually doing something has to come into play doesn’t it? Now don’t get me wrong. Other than this season Medina actually has some pretty good numbers. I’m just arguing in general “tools” can only take you so far. At some point you should actually have to produce in order to keep a lofty prospect ranking.
  23. I appreciate the year he’s having but I’d like to see more of a track record before I get too excited. People have good years all the time. He has to build on it next year. He also has to cut down on his Ks and get that average up. Guys who hit .240 and strikeout every 3-4 at bats aren’t what the offense needs right now. But no doubt he is having a pretty decent year. This franchise can’t afford to have duds with their first round picks, as they’ve been having way too often lately. Hopefully this is a breakout year and not a fluke.
  24. If they trade for Machado they also need to add a reliever. They are relying too heavily on Jeffress Hader and Knebel. Maybe give Burnes an expanded role. Or give Ramirez a chance finally.
  25. I just hope they don’t trade Burnes. Phillips. Ortiz. Another piece. Otherwise I’d shoot for some lesser known players.
