  1. "That coincides with the most recent report from Brewer Nation which is the package he heard was Greinke and Hart for Andrus and Perez" I didn't see this before but if Melvin makes this trade he should be fired. Trade your two best pieces for an expensive shortstop who is only under control for 2 more years and one prospect? This has always been my biggest fear of Melvin trading Greinke: Acquiring players to patch together another .500ish team in 2013.
  2. If Texas wants another player that they can hold onto past this season, why not include Corey Hart? Hart and Greinke carry easily the highest trade value and would bring back the most. Even if this still doesn't net Profar, how about Greinke, Hart, and a lower level prospect like Max Walla or Nick Ramirez. In return we get Olt, Perez, Leonys Martin and either Grimm or Buckel? This allows us to move both Gomez and Morgan in the offseason. Schafer, Martin, and Aoki can hold down the RF and CF spots. Olt can stay at third in Nashville next year then move to first if Gamel struggles. Perez and Grimm immediately compete for rotation spots with Fiers, Rogers, Peralta, Thornburg Estrada and maybe Narveson. This would also free up a ton of money (having lost the contracts of Greinke, Wolf, Marcum, Morgan, Hart, Gomez, and KRod) to rebuild the bullpen. It might take a year for all the young guys to get some experience but it would be a heck of a start in rebuilding this franchise would it not?
  3. pretty sure a september call up is the only option for rogers at this moment anyways. Only Milwaukee would bring up Tyler Thornburg, their most successful pitching prospect, and let him rot in the bullpen while at the same time keeping Mark Rogers in the AAA rotation. I like Rogers as much as anyone but it's looking like his best shot in the majors is as a reliever. To me, it would make much more sense to put Rogers in the bullpen and give Thornburg his starts in Nashville.
  4. I will confess that a small part of me wants to see what would happen on the forum if the trade deadline comes and goes and Greinke is still a Brewer. A very small part of me. I am going to start another thread suggesting Doug Melvin needs to be fired.
  5. According to MLBtraderumors it seems to be between the Rangers, Angels, Braves, and White Sox. Since the White Sox don't really have anything we want we can probably eliminate them. That leaves the other three: Angels: Any deal with them would have to include Segura Rangers: I'd like Olt and Buckel Braves: I'd probably take either Teheran or Delgado plus some. Pastornicky would probably be a decent throw in to help solve the SS problem and maybe we can talk them into a reliever too. Also, it sounds like Melvin is at least listening to offers to Hart and Ramirez but would have to be overwhlemed. I realize the possibility is next to none but maybe someone will come along and overwhelm us.
  6. Why would we want any part of Erving Santana?
  7. I think Melvin is working very hard trying to get Profar and has an offer of Olt and Martin Perez already in place, he's seeing if he can "up the ante by playing the Angels & Rangers against each other.... If there is an offer of Olt and Perez in place you take it before Texas comes to their senses.
  8. Everyone seems high on Rougned Odor but I only want him if he can play SS. He plays mostly as a second basemen now with occasional starts at shortstop. With Gennett and McFarland already having good seasons I don't see the need to add another player who profiles as a second basemen. The suggested return of Perez and Buckel, I think that would be a good return though I'd prefer Olt to Perez.
  9. Many people around here couldn't wait to run Escobar out of town after a bad season he's become exactly what many of us on the minor league thought he would be Maybe I am remembering wrong but I don't think a whole lot of people were ready to run Escobar out of town. I understand what you are saying but don't exaggerate to make your point. Seattle has one of the best farm systems in baseball, perhaps you should go read up on their prospects before dismissing them. System rankings really mean nothing. Milwaukee had the best system awhile ago and without major trades they go nowhere. KC had far and away the best system in baseball last year and they are still struggling to get the wins. Seattle's is different in the sense that most of their top prospects are pitchers, but you can't just assume all the players are going to reach their potential. If all of Seattle's players reached their potential they'd be a lot better than they are right now. Smoak and Ackley were fairly well regarded prospects. Yes they are young but you are making the mistake of assuming they will eventually get much better. Worrying about attendance and a couple of wins here and there is actually the surest way to lose your job because you'll never get over the top that way. You want attendance? Build a team that can win and sustain success like they had about 10 years ago. Sure people want to watch great players, but how many fans were going to Brewer games just to watch Ben Sheets pitch when he was all we had here in Milwaukee? Attendance picked up to current levels when the team actually started winning. Is this an argument to trade him or keep him? It seems to me like it's an argument to trade him.
  10. For Felix the Mariners could probably have their choice of prospects. Aside from Trout and Harper I can't imagine a lot of guys teams would refuse to trade for Felix. Like I said, if I'm trading him to Texas I start with Profar and probably can get another one or two prospects. One pitcher, no matter how good he is, cannot save a franchise. Three elite prospects might, especially with all the pitchers they have coming up.
  11. I'd hang on to Maldonado, Gomez, Aoki, Axe, and probably Hart unless someone really wants him. I'm sure plenty of teams really want Hart. Problem is Melvin refuses to make him available.
  12. Because they aren't dumb like the Marlins and actually want people to show up at games. By finishing in last place every year?
  13. I wonder if Texas would give up Profar for Felix? I know division trades don't happen much but that seems like a deal that could benefit both teams. And actually, with him being locked up for so long I'd bet Seattle could get Profar plus something for Felix. I'd definitely consider it if I were Seattle.
  14. So if we had only lost 4 of 6 we weren't?!?!?!?!?!?! That is a scary thought.... I was thinking the same thing. As far as I was concerned 3-3 wasn't even good enough.
  15. I honestly don't understand why Philly would sign Hamels right now. He's already made it clear that he'd be interested in coming back to them in the offseason and I highly doubt anyone would match that ridiculous offer they gave him. Why not just trade him now for an elite prospect then re-sign him in the offseason? Not that I care. Him re-signing now definitely helps us. MLBTR now reporting the Rangers are willing to trade Olt for Josh Johnson, since Johnson is signed for 2013. And having just traded their third basemen you have to imagine Florida will take it. I give Florida a lot of credit. They are not sitting back twiddling their thumbs, trying to decide if they want to sell, wondering who they want. They went out and did it. Assuming Johnson is traded they traded two guys whom a month ago you'd never imagined would have been traded. And assuming they get Olt they walk away with 2 elite prospects in Turner and Olt and another very good one in Brantley (or whatever his name is, that catcher they got from Detroit). Meanwhile Doug JUST decided he wanted to trade Greinke even though it should have been clear a month ago and he refuses to part with Corey Hart who is only signed for one more season but may have more trade value than Greinke. It just bothers me that when even Melvin "sells" he doesn't really sell. He is going to use Greinke to acquire a guy as part of his patching together of another .500 caliber team for 2013 and we are supposed to be excited about it.
  16. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/333296-rangers-getting-desperate-for-hamels?sct=mlb_bf1_a4&eref=fromSI&eref=fromSI This article suggests Philly is making "outrageous" demands from Texas for Cole Hamels. I'm not sure what this entails but Melvin should use it to his advantage. Assuming Texas is interested in Greinke Melvin should approach them with a realistic offer. Mike Olt and a lower level pitching prospect I think is a reasonable offer. Cody Buckel has been striking out a ton of guys but has struggled a bit since being promoted to AA. Olt and Buckel seems like a reasonable offer.
  17. Brewers get a guy at A-ball who wasn't in the top 3 in his own system, plus whatever crap the White Sox have to offer? Let's not get too carried away with organizational rankings. All of the guys ranked ahead of him were top 100 players. If you were to put Nicolino in the Brewers system he'd probably be a lot higher than 5. He's had a good year this year and would probably start at BC next year. But I don't think he's the type of player Doug Melvin would center a trade around. Melvin's history suggests he'd rather take a player with a lower ceiling who is closer to the majors. That's what frustrates me about him. I wonder if Toronto is interested in making a move. They are only 3 out of the wildcard and have a ton of pitching, albeit mostly at lower levels. Greinke and KRod for Nicolino and Daniel Norris or Aaron Sanchez would be a sweet deal.
  18. I'm really excited about Tyrone Taylor and Chris McFarland. A toolsy centerfielder and a middle infielder, even if it is at second base. And hopefully Haniger and Roach can come back from their injuries strong next year. Roache may end up being a real steal if he can come back at full strength. He had the chance to be a top 10 pick before he got hurt. Another guy I like who wasn't on the list is Michael Reed. Milwaukee is really stacked in the outfield (Reed, Taylor, Haniger, Roache, Kh Davis, Ke Davis, Schafer, Gindl, plus some guys in AZ like Mondesi, Hernandez and Macolm Dowell).
  19. Olt is a power hitting middle of the order prospect who can play first base or third base. Acquiring him would allow us to move Hart or Ramirez in the offseason or at the deadline next season as well. I'd be thrilled to get Olt.
  20. They could move him to first or trade him. And depending on what player they get in return they could just stash the player in Nashville for a year then try to trade Ramirez next year.
  21. Well the Sanchez deal included Infante and Dempster has better numbers than Greinke. If we can get Olt I'd take it, though I'd like to see a corresponding move made. That would be either trading Ramirez or Hart. Greinke for Olt Hart for Marte and Heredia That would really excite me.
  22. Rendon is not even close to being major league ready. He's had all of 16 at bats this year. With his recent injury history I'd pass. Detwiler is in their rotation and has an ERA of 3.01. I doubt they'd give him up now. I'm not sure who I'd want from Washington.
  23. I feel as though some on this board think Doug is a big dummy who has no idea what he is doing so they have braced themselves for a terrible trade. It's not that we think Melvin doesn't know what he is doing, it's that we question why he is doing it. There are many different ways he can go here. He seems intent on trying to compete again 2013. I personally think he'd be better off shooting for 2014. Some of the moves you are going to make to try to compete in 2013 are different than moves you'd make to compete in 2014.
  24. Texas' Colby Lewis is now out for the season. Hopefully this increases their interest in Greinke.
