  1. I had to double check to see if I was in the right thread. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/261171564/brewers-corey-ray-delivers-clutch-hit-in-afl/?topicid=153494546 Corey Ray has had his ups and downs in this year's Arizona Fall League, but the No. 58 overall prospect looked as good as he has all season on Thursday night as he delivered a clutch game-winning double in the top of the 11th inning to lead Salt River past Scottsdale, 7-6, at Scottsdale Stadium. It looks like he' 13-39 since his 1-25 start. He was only 1-5 but it sounds like he hit the ball hard in two other ABs. There is only a week left, hopefully he can finish strong.
  2. 1500 injuries each year seems like a lot to me. Statistically, each team would participate in 100 games each year where someone was injured. I’ve attended a lot of games in my life and watch almost every Brewer game on TV and I don’t recall seeing at most a handful of injuries over the years. It seems like if there were almost 2 injuries for every 3 major league games that this would have addressed already, that’s a lot of liability.
  3. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/257039266/brewers-ryan-braun-looks-back-on-2017-season/ I thought they told us in July that he was dealing with a calf injury and would be all season.
  4. I'm usually pretty quick to defend players on hits near the sideline and to the head because the game is so fast, both players are moving and you don't always where the other guy will be and you can't always just stop that quickly. This was blatant headhunting IMO, Adams was sitting duck and he led with the crown of his helmet and went for Adams' head... it wasn't even close. And it wasn't just because it was a Packer, I'm pretty objective about this stuff and can ignore the uniform, I would be disappointed if this was a Packer, like I was with Charles Martin and Ken Stills..
  5. Bennett is more of a complete tight end, Cook can't block to save his life. If the line is ever healthy, Bennett's "well-roundedness" will allow them to line him up tight and run or split him out wide depending what package the defense puts in. Bennett is being asked to help the tackles a lot, on last years's team, Cook would probably be on the bench and Richard Rodgers would be blocking.
  6. I usually am not too critical of a player... but I would have lost my "stuff" if I was coaching 11 year olds and they did what Shaw just did.
  7. There is no way anyone scores from 2nd on that play, it was hit so hard that any runner would have had to freeze to make sure it's down. Look at it again, Walker was barely at third and the catcher had the ball, I just don't see any way anyone would have scored on that. The thing that is unfortunate is that the Pirates tied it on a chopper between the pitchers mound and home. The Cubs tied it on a infield single, a groundout and a "routine" ground ball hit to where the SS would normally play on a great pitch. And we can't score on a scorched single by Shaw. We were two outs away from a one game lead in the WC and 1.5 games behind the Cubs. I think the'll bounce back though and still make a run for at least a WC.
  8. Davies dealing. 68 pitches through 6... the anti-Yovani.
  9. Can't we have a rainout?
  10. I always assumed he would be out at least a year. Sadly, I still don't think he will ever be the same.
  11. This team is a joke. With an enormous payroll and all stars at every position, we've stumbled to an embarrassing 80-70 record and are on a slide, having lost two of their last 10 games... what a pathetic display... how does Counsell still have a job?
  12. That's better than I had expected. Hopefully they are just as optimistic after surgery.
  13. The NFL is not a good comp because the "currency" of the NFL is QBs. Whoever has the best QBs are guaranteed to be perennial contenders. Salary cap has nothing to do with getting the best QBs. They have to be drafted and then are simply just given massive contracts. They are never traded and never become FAs. The "currency" of baseball however, is money. But I would not say we at a massive disadvantage, our disadvantage is that it is literally impossible for us to sign top tier free agents. No matter how much we can afford a bigger market team can just pay more. These days it seems like most FAs are getting their big paydays after some of their primes so it doesn't hurt as much to miss them. We can still trade for these guys so we can at least have a hope to get them when it might really help, like Sabathia. Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, Carson Palmer, others a step below that level. I'd add Drew Brees... but Montana was done by then, Young would have been a better argument... Warner moved around before he was a star and had 5 bad years before a resurgence his last 3 years... Palmer meh... Favre was traded before he was a star and again in the twilight of his career... Manning was at the end of his career. I'd have to agree with topper, there may be a few exceptions but most stars stay with the team that drafted them.
  14. How do we know Wilkerson is "scheduled" to pitch? Maybe they'll follow up the hard throwing righty with a soft tossing lefty in Suter.
  15. Labrum tears are usually a year, similar to an ACL, I posted a link the other day. I'm going to assume that until they report something more optimistic... and then I probably won't believe them anyway. Very few pitchers come back from Labrum tears and are what they were before the injury.
  16. Yup. His rotation manipulation was a signal to the team that this series didn't mean anything. It's subtle messages like that destroy a team's momentum. I'm confused. If they throw a 5th starter on Friday instead of Davies, wouldn't that send a signal to the team that that game/series doesn't mean anything?
  17. Ok, maybe I used a bit of hyperbole but I wasn't interested in giving up Brinson+ or 2 of the pitchers I mentioned above+ for Gray. I may be proven wrong but I didn't want that trade then and I'm still fine with the decision after seeing how it's panned out for 6 weeks.
  18. Well at the time he hadn't done that so it's hard to look at what he's done now when considering whether or not to trade him a month and a half ago.But that's what the Gray "fans" are doing. Where are the people that were clamoring to give up the farm for Quintana or Wilson? If Gray was putting up Quintana or Wilson numbers for the Yankees, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I wasn't a fan if making the trade at the time and I'm still fine with the decision. I may be proven wrong but I want to see what we have in Hader, Woodruff, Burnes and Ortiz. I think we would have had to give up two of that group if Brinson was off the table.
  19. I think this is going to be at least a year recovery either way. I guess I'm assuming he needs surgery since it doesn't sound like it will heal on its own. http://www.livestrong.com/article/483991-torn-labrum-in-baseball/
  20. I really don't even care about this season anymore, I'm far more worried that Nelson will never be the same. Torn labrums are the worst thing that can happen to a pitcher.
  21. Im confused, who was the 31 year old they kept? I'm confused, who was the utility man they cut?
