  1. Bummer. I have been expecting that for a while but tried to convince myself it wasn't going to happen.
  2. I'm not sure if the Extra Innings preview is over or not. If it is, ignore the rest of this post. On Saturday at my uncle's we were searching for the Brewer game, and while the Extra Innings channel that was televising it was blacked out, it was not blacked out on the "mix" channel that had eight games going at once. It is a pretty small window, but the CSN HD feed on a 52'' LCD made it so you could at least follow the action. Better than nothing.
  3. I lived in Cole and loved the lakeshore area. I enjoy more of a laid back atmosphere and that area was perfect for me. My friend, who also lived in Cole, is more outgoing, more social, and enjoyed partying more. He liked it there, but if he had to do it over again he certainly would have chosen southeast. I also met my wife in Cole so maybe that introduces a little bias into my recollection. Congrats T-Bone, what an exciting time for you. You made an excellent choice!!
  4. Is it maybe some kind of commentary on how the FBI and other law enforcement agencies work to prevent a threat? In the world the show created, CTU would track down every single lead and was driven by preventing an attack or incident. In this case the FBI devotes zero resources to a possible lead and only cares about finding Jack. Even if it isn't the show's intent to highlight that discrepancy, it is still an interesting comparison.
  5. A kid in my high school had the following written on one of his notebooks: "Michigan kicks but" "Stupid people should not breath" Oh the irony.
  6. SI printed an excerpt from this book a couple of weeks ago. It was really interesting (e.g. talked about Turnbow there on a rehab assignment) but after reading that NY Times piece it seems most has to be taken with a grain of salt. Why would they not check some of those facts prior to publishing, and why would he continue to "stand behind everything in the book" when it is clear there are quite a few inaccuracies?
  7. I am going to take the high road for a second time despite someone again attacking my field by using stereotypes and generalizations by requesting that this thread gets locked. In these various rants, replace "Human Resources" with your field and see how it makes you feel. If the thread doesn't get locked and this continues, I can't promise the high road will be taken a third time.
  8. Amen. Experiences like that are a reflection on the company to which you are applying that allows things like that to happen, not on a particular field. A good organization understands what can possibly impact their reputation/brand/image and takes steps to ensure that those areas are managed properly.
  9. I can see how some of the chapters could be pieced together into a decent movie plot (e.g. the draft room, going through a portion of the season with potential trades, etc.) but you just know they are going to be loose with the details for dramatic effect, and that will be its downfall for anyone that has read the book or for hardcore baseball fans who will see right through it. I do realize, however, that hardcore baseball fans are rarely an audience to which Hollywood often tries to cater. They must be counting on Brad Pitt = $$.
  10. When I heard Trenni ask the question I said out loud, "Please say plate discipline! Please say plate discipline!" We are unbelievably fortunate to have that man under contract for as long as we do. It is going to be a fun ride.
  11. I watched my mailman run over my plastic garbage can lid today. Normally I would lay part of the blame on the garbage man, as they usually toss/drop the can wherever they feel like it. Today, however, they placed it pretty much right where they found it. The only issue is they set it down so the lid was about six inches into the street. Not a big deal, except the mailmain evidently didn't feel like swerving that six inches when driving from the neighbor's mailbox to mine and ran right over it. There is no way he didn't see it. I know I have it pretty good if this is the worst thing I have to complain about, but it is still annoying knowing I had a perfectly good unit this morning and now due to someone's carelessness I'll have to go to Menard's and shell out $20 for a new one.
  12. Thanks. That totally went over my head as I was watching.
  13. I don't usually go looking for gaps or inconsistencies, but unless I missed something this one was so glaring I couldn't stop thinking about it. When did Jack/Tony call Bill/Chloe to let them know where to find Walker? Did one of them send a text from their pocket like Matt Damon's character in The Departed? Emerson was watching them the whole time, I just can't figure out when they would have had an opportunity to send any kind of message.
  14. I probably agree with less than half of your posts, but I agree with this one 100%. My thoughts exactly on Price and his place in this franchise.
  15. My mother-in-law and the cell phone. 1) Never turns it off because she's afraid that she will forget how to turn it back on. 2) Uses the minutes concept to refer to the battery life. Example: "I have to charge my phone, it's almost out of minutes." Drives me crazy for some irrational reason.
  16. A few years ago KQRS in the twin cities played a bunch of calls received by a tech help desk. While most were people irate over the most simple things not working, the funniest one was a very nice polite man, who simply stated (paraphrasing) "My mouse pointer is in the middle of the screen, but my mouse is all the way to the bottom of my mouse pad and it can't go any lower. If you could let me know how to get the pointer to the bottom of the screen I would appreciate it."
  17. What is the basic technology we have to deal with an asteroid? I assume you don't mean oil drillers landing on it and dropping a nuke down an 800 foot hole.
  18. As someone that watches 24 and Entourage, it may take some time to not think "Billy Walsh is an IT guy for the FBI?" for a second every time he comes on screen.
  19. Would you change your mind about the number if during that time he saves Game 7 of the World Series?
  20. Great point, although an interesting example, as Gorman was drafted as a shortstop.
  21. I also have a son a couple months short of 3. As Al said, if you make fun things contingent on them behaving that can go a long way (e.g. no Saturday morning cartoons if you don't wear a coat and get in the car right away). The hardest part is actually enforcing it if they do not comply, so the key is choosing things you are comfortable with. Sometimes taking away that fun thing can be worse on the parent than it is on the child. If you use that time Saturday morning to relax or get things done around the house, you are making it tough on yourself, and you are also setting yourself up for wanting to back out and not enforce what you said. We struggle because we try so hard to make sure we have a happy home, and it is heartbreaking sometimes to have to take things away and make him sad. We have to remind ourselves daily that we have to think big picture and not just focus on the short-term.
  22. I'm eating a bag of peanuts (leftover from the 10/4 playoff game) and I notice that "Dry Roasted" is printed on the front of the bag. What does this mean? Also, that got me thinking, what would be the opposite of something being dry roasted?
