  1. Also I know I'm a little late to the game but holy crap did Jungmann look terrible before getting sent down. His fastball looked super straight and very hittable, I was amazed he almost got out of that inning.
  2. So far the bullpen is looking pretty terrific (except for Marinez). Barnes and Knebel seem particularly impressive, and holy cow is the Feliz signing looking like a great choice so far despite the one hiccup so far. Looking forward to seeing what we can get for Feliz at the trade deadline. Lots of teams are going to want a closer who can touch 100 if he continues his success.
  3. Who would've thought that the concerns at this point in the season would be Guerra and Davies? Obviously Guerra's is only because of injury, but very happy so far with the performances of Peralta, Anderson, and Nelson (granted Nelson just has the one start so far). Anderson is at 0.3 WAR already this year, halfway to his 2016 number for the entire season (although obviously poor performance could send it back down again). Hoping this is a breakthrough year for some of these guys and we don't have to get rid of everyone in our current rotation in order to be competitive again.
  4. That article almost plays like April Fools fan fiction. Braun is willing to play first base haha that would make a lot of people around here happy. You'd think those Dodgers talks would get pretty far pretty fast, since so much ground work was done last August. Although you have to think we wanted De Leon so now that he's gone, it might make a deal slightly harder to figure out.
  5. Sooo.....then there's this: http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/224009890/two-trade-deadlines-approaching-for-ryan-braun/?topicId=27118386 I had to wipe my eyes a few times, but does that article say that the Dodgers and Brewers are still having contact about Braun? There's some interesting details in here that seem to suggest that it's possible we still trade Braun within the next month. I still think that's highly unlikely but we'll see.
  6. So Hader/Woodruff/Burgos/Wang, then Espino or Barbosa for #5, or will they do 6? Can't remember if Espino/Barbosa were both considered starters or not.
  7. If Cravy doesn't get Guerra's roster spot I'd be watching out for flying objects in the Sky Sox clubhouse for the next few days.
  8. Looks like I got my answer: Tom‏ @Haudricourt He might be held back in spring training for a bit. Was a little behind Taylor Williams in recover from Tommy John surgery.
  9. It'll be Milone who fills Guerra's spot I'm sure, since Jungmann was not stretched out as a starter this Spring. Can't wait to hear the interview with Tyler Cravy after the Brewers announce that he's taking Guerra's spot on the roster, since that's about 95% likely to happen at this point. They used up so much of the bullpen yesterday, they'll need a fresh arm for tonight, and now that we have Hughes there's no spot on the 40-man for Scahill (although it'd be kinda funny to me if they clear a spot for Scahill and deliberately avoid calling up Cravy as punishment, but I doubt they'd do that).
  10. Nathan Kirby isn't listed here or with Carolina, anybody heard what's up with him. Is he staying in Arizona for extended ST?
  11. Haven't seen Stephen Kohlscheen's name anywhere yet, and he's not on Biloxi's roster, so I'm hoping he just hasn't been listed yet at Colorado Springs. Excited to see what he can do this year.
  12. 1. LEWIS BRINSON 2. JOSH HADER 3. ISAN DIAZ 4. COREY RAY 5. LUCAS ERCEG 6. LUIS ORTIZ 7. BRANDON WOODRUFF 8. PHIL BICKFORD 9. TRENT CLARK 10. MAURICIO DUBON 11. MARCOS DIPLAN 12. BRETT PHILLIPS 13. JORGE LOPEZ 14. RYAN CORDELL 15. JACOB NOTTINGHAM 16. CODY PONCE 17. GILBERT LARA 18. CORBIN BURNES 19. FREDDY PERALTA 20. KODI MEDEIROS 21. MONTE HARRISON 22. MARIO FELICIANO 23. JOSH PENNINGTON 24. DEMI ORIMOLOYE 25. TAYLOR WILLIAMS 26. NATHAN KIRBY 27. JAKE GATEWOOD 28. JACOB BARNES 29. TREY SUPAK 30. KYLE WREN
  13. His spring has been rough, but he gave up all his runs in 4 outings. I have to say I'm pretty surprised that they didn't give him a shot in April given his numbers the last 3 years, but I'm not at all familiar with the Pirates' bullpen situation so maybe he was holding up someone else, although that seems unlikely. I guess it's either this guy for almost $3M (Scooter's money) or Scahill for way less, maybe I'd just prefer we go with Scahill.
  14. @Ken_Rosenthal Source: #Pirates’ Jared Hughes on release waivers. #Pirates’ Hughes under contract for $2.825M this season, control through 2018. Career 61% GB rate, 64.8% second half of ’16. Rough spring. Worth a waiver claim?
  15. So bench will be: - Bandy - Niewuenhuis - Aguilar - Perez - De Jesus ???
  16. I imagine Garza will make the rotation but with a VERY tight leash. How many starts did Jungmann make before we optioned him? 4? I'd guess Garza gets April to show anything, and if he can't then he'll be gone because there'll be no realistic expectation that we can trade him and we'd rather have Anderson in the rotation than in the bullpen or AAA, since 2017 is likely his year to prove he belongs (or doesn't). I think Jungmann is going to take the long man role in the bullpen.
  17. I would assume Reed won't be on the 40-man for very long....
  18. Clark seems like he was held back by injuries more than anything else, but I'm not sure what Appleton has left to offer him besides inhibiting his growth and frustrating him. Better to keep him with that other group of upcoming prospects (Erceg, Diaz, to a lesser extent Gatewood). He still showed good plate discipline with the TRats (high walk rate) even with the low average, I think with a healthy season that Carolina is the best place for him to start. Interesting that Counsell mentioned recently that Dubon was likely the AA shortstop, but maybe that was just an offhand comment that didn't mean much. Counsell also told Stearns that Reed will start the year at AAA, making four 40-man OF at Colorado to start the season. Can't see much of a situation where Reed gets called up this year though, gotta be honest, I'd say with Cordell/Brinson seemingly knocking on the door, Reed might be the first guy off the 40-man if we need a spot.
  19. Other things: Woodruff, Dubon at AAA Phillips not listed, so not sure where he's going Erceg still with big league camp for now, probably until Perez is back from WBC (he's in the lineup today). Probably will go to Carolina though, I'd guess.
  20. This should be a good indicator of who's starting where: Coulter is with AAA, but that's probably because Brinson/Cordell apparently get the day off after being optioned. Also Knebel starting there but probably just because not enough innings in the big league game. Diplan, T Williams, Wilkerson, Bickford listed at AA. Trent Clark, Isan Diaz, Jake Gatewood, Nathan Kirby all to Carolina, looks like Erceg has the day off. Yamamoto at A+ as well, which makes sense. Ronnie Gideon is DHing for Carolina, is he going to skip Appleton? The more I look at this the more I think there will be a LOT of changes to who goes where before the minor league season starts, but who knows.
  21. There's a reason players like that would get so much in return. It's because they're so valuable to their own team that the team would never want to trade them. Some people on here seem to act like the idea will ALWAYS be to flip players for younger players. At some point, we want to actually win with the young players we have, and Broxton is a prime success story that might be our first major piece toward a World Series. I have no interest in trading the guy who could potentially be our best overall player the next 3 years. It's like saying the Pirates should've traded McCutchen 5 years ago.
  22. Erceg and Diaz are certainly making the most of their time in big-league camp. My guess is they're both in AA by July.
  23. There's absolutely no way we're cutting Aguilar now, I'd think. He's guaranteed to be picked up by someone, and we could use a righty to back up Thames (Perez will already be backing up Shaw), plus having a nice bat off the bench would be nice. He's shown too much potential this spring to just let him go.
  24. I would want a package similar to what we got for Lucroy to even CONSIDER trading Broxton at this point. The guy clearly has perennial all star potential at this point and this is the first year where we're really going to see if he's likely to hit that potential. I would so much rather that he get that chance with us over some other team. Guys like Broxton breaking out are what we're going to need in order to win a WS, so I don't think I'd really be entertaining any offers unless the return was way more than any team is ever going to be offering for a relatively unproven player.
  25. Would not be surprised at this point if 1B turns into a full platoon until 1 of those guys stands out (or maybe Thames gets a limited shot to see if he can hit lefties). Aguilar is doing everything humanly possible this spring to show he belongs, and at this point I'd be surprised if he wasn't on the 25-man roster. Keeping Aguilar isn't the most flexible bench option, but it keeps Perez from having to make starts at 1B if Thames struggles with lefties, which could allow Perez to platoon at 3B against tough lefties and also sub in the outfield more (especially on the road if Nieuwenhuis's splits last year weren't a 1-year phenomenon). I also like having a big bat on the bench, but it's hard to say if Aguilar is the kind of guy who can sit on the bench for 2 days and then come out and have a good AB, that's tough to do.
