  1. I know Fresno, Staten Island, and a couple of others are getting the attention; but I think how the MAL, SAL, and potentially Carolina Leagues break up may be the most intriguing. Do they break down purely geographically or do current affiliations and/or ownerships come into play?
  2. Replying to a number of posts - I agree the Twins did well if they land both St. Paul and Wichita. If the Brewers only change is just at AAA going to Nashville, that is still a huge improvement in facilities. My prediction for the SALLY - Asheville, Augusta, CAROLINA, Charleston, Columbia, Down East, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Greenville, Kannapolis, Myrtle Beach, and Rome. I put Hickory and Winston-Salem in the MAL, as Texas and the CWS already have a team in the SALLY.
  3. Since MLB is taking their time, I am just going to keep making suggestions that I have no knowledge of...today's is Nashville connects with the Rays and the Brewers take over the Durham Bulls with its proximity to the Mudcats...
  4. MLB is getting close to 120 if you think about it. Twenty-three of the "contracted teams" have connected with the Appalachian League, Pioneer League, and Draft League. There is suppose to be a 6th team join the Draft League, Vermont Lake is expected to move to the Frontier League, and Tri-City and Norwich look like they are going to indy ball. That leaves only about a dozen teams on the initial contraction list without futures determined - Auburn, Batavia, Bowie, Burlington, Chattanooga, Clinton, Florida (FireFrogs), Jackson, Lancaster (CA), Lexington, Lowell, Port Charlotte, and Staten Island.
  5. I would say Fresno only affects Lancaster, as they are probably the 8th California League if Fresno does not join the Single-A league.
  6. If not Atlanta, what about a real "shocker" in the Cubs for Nashville? It puts them closer to their AA affiliate (and Myrtle Beach if they keep them) and only adds about 20 minutes onto their AAA to MLB flight.
  7. Since Nashville and Round Rock both say "interesting twist" that makes the most sense, but I struggle calling the Rangers a "mystery team" since they are the the current affiliate. A "mystery team" would be something like the Braves going to Nashville and moving their current AAA team to one of the "A" levels.
  8. Not including Rookie ball at the spring training sites, MLB teams had 5-6 affiliates. Each team will be restricted down to four. The Brewers were one of the majority of teams with five and the Colorado Springs team would be the one up for elimination.
  9. My prediction would be the same as LincolnDD's unless they go geography over facilities, then I could see Chattanooga or Jackson replace Biloxi. Rocket City would also be great, but everything seems to point towards them staying connected to the LAA.
  10. So would that likely put both the Mid-Atlantic and South-Atlantic teams at 12 members each? If this is the case, I would think the Mudcats would definitely stay in the SAL. There are probably 14 teams below the North Carolina/Virginia line. A couple of teams (CWS and Texas) have two below that line. I think Texas owns both of them, also. Location-wise, Asheville probably makes the most sense to move to AA if a team moves in that direction (or Greenville if they can break away from the Red Sox).
  11. I think MadThinker is correct, the Mudcats likely move to the new Sally League.
  12. Appleton definitely has the larger stadium than the Beloit new ballpark, but does that really matter as there were rumors that MN was looking at Sioux Falls as their "backup" to St. Paul at the AAA level. Would you choose them over an established AAA team in Round Rock or Nashville? West Michigan could also be an idea (a 4th MW league team on the move) with its larger population, larger stadium, and future stories of getting called up to the majors starting with, "I took the Lake Express ferry..." Tigers than move their affiliate to recently vacated Great Lakes?
  13. The debate will be facilities vs. location as Biloxi has the nicer facilities but San Antonio, Chattanooga, and Jackson would definitely have the closer location to what appear to be the last two AAA options standing. Regarding the history with Nashville, this was before the Stearns regime but obviously Melvin, Ash, Counsell, T. Johnson, and Flanagan were around in different roles with the team at the time.
  14. Even though I doubt he gets picked, I don't understand keeping Freitas on the 40-man over Henry.
  15. Gotta think it is now down to Round Rock and Nashville. For AA options, I have to think Biloxi would be in play for either with San Antonio also being in play with Round Rock and maybe Chattanooga or Jackson, TN in play for Nashville.
  16. If the Rangers don't return to Round Rock, the Brewers are probably their best AAA option as I don't foresee Washington or Pittsburgh headed to the Austin area.
  17. Most teams don't appear to be announcing downsizing. By looking at the Brewers front office directory (if it is accurate) the Brewers let go of seven scouts including Bianchi, Kuenn, Jr., and Scholtzen. With the likely elimination of two levels of minor league teams, it would make sense that 7-8 minor league coaches would also be leaving the organization.
  18. I am going to say Round Rock is my fifth choice of those four teams. I would go 1. Nashville, 2. Indianapolis, 3. Rochester, 4. Wichita, and 5. Round Rock. Just can't compete with Nashville's direct flight to the Milwaukee airport. Indianapolis is a great location for an NL Central affiliate.
  19. At the AAA level, I am thinking it is a "final four" with Indianapolis, Nashville, Rochester, and Round Rock; with the Brewers, Nationals, Pirates, and Rangers involved. Round Rock only comes into play if Sugar Land becomes the AAA affiliate of the Astros. Travel-wise, I believe Nashville is the only direct flight from Milwaukee.
  20. With both the Mets and Yankees leaving South Carolina, I wonder if the Brewers would consider keeping the Mudcats name but try to "upgrade" into a different location? There have at times been rumors the team wanted to get into Raleigh and out of Zebulon.
  21. Somerset was also an independent baseball team that the Yankees have already said will become their AA team.
  22. Any chance Rangers choose to stay in Nashville, near their A-ball affiliates, and Houston moves to Constellation Field for AAA creating the possibility for a Round Rock / San Antonio pairing for AAA/AA for Milwaukee?
  23. It will be interesting over the next few days if we see each team releasing a similar annoucement to the Yankees' from earlier.
  24. At AA, it will be interesting to see who the 30 teams are. If Binghamton, Chattanooga, Erie, Jackson, and Jacksonville leave AA; who are they replaced by? Bowling Green, Brooklyn, Lancaster (PA), Lexington, New Orleans, San Antonio, Somerset, Wichita, others?
  25. I am thinking the Mudcats will stay with the Brewers as I expect the South-Atlantic (low-A) to be made up of teams in NC, VA, and MD. I could see the Carolina League becoming the South Carolina + Rome (GA) League.
