  1. I think it's from an analytical standpoint - college hitters are least likely to flame out at the lower levels of the minors. HS arms/bats are most risky. I also think they lean toward position players because of their pitching lab and the belief that they can develop pitching. We haven't developed any position players yet under Stearns. Hopefully Mitchell pans out but we regularly field an everyday lineup with no players drafted by the Brewers.
  2. What are they going to do have the new guy change his uniform every inning and bat 9 times a game? Coaches coach, but the players are the ones swinging the bat and have played thousands of games before getting to the major leagues. Short of swinging for them what’s a hitting coach going to improve? The Brewers offense has underachieved every year with Haines as the hitting coach.
  3. Is there any chance whatsoever that Leiter somehow falls down to the Brewers pick due to signability concerns and would they actually pull the trigger. It was presumed that he was headed to Boston but if they cut a deal with McClain he could fall. Then again the Mets would surely pick him and we would almost defintely have no chance but weird things happen. If I’m reading their commentary correctly they seem to think it’s increasing likely Leiter doesn’t make it to the Red Sox pick which is why they think the rumors about McLain going #4 are now swirling. Appreciate the updates.
  4. Anyone who has seen Yelich’s at bats, including Yelich himself, knows that he isn’t close to being elite. The raw numbers that you’re citing don’t capture the strikeouts and weak contact. Maybe he can regain the form he had in early 2018 before he exploded, but he isn’t close to that now. Half right. He does K way too much and chases bad pitches way too much (oddly, since he also BBs SO much). He is in the 92nd percentile of hard hit% so weak contact really isn't a problem. And of course Yelich should be better and says he should be better as his potential is the best hitter in the league. That doesn't mean he should be benched for underperforming compared to that lofty potential. Right now he is merely above average. The walk rate is all Yelich has going for him and its probably not sustainable unless he starts hitting.
  5. I don't think it's all that extreme with Wong in the lineup. I'd give the Reds the edge but not by a ton. I think its far bigger difference than that.
  6. The difference in lineups between these teams is pretty extreme. If Cincy gets good pitching they can easily win the division.

  8. Cain sounds like he pretty much checked out since opting out last season pretty much admitting he didn't even try to stay in shape. At this point we shouldn't be expecting much out of him. Taylor has shown himself to be a pretty decent player and should be given a chance to play a lot more despite the two older veterans who don't have much upside.
  9. Unfortunately Bradley and Cain are going to keep playing CF instead of Taylor because of their big contracts. Big mistake not to give Taylor the starting job but this wouldn't be the first team to play the expensive veterans due to their big money contracts.
  10. All I ask is for the Brewers to pick whoever they think has the biggest upside. If that means picking a starting pitcher pick the guy with the upside of a top of the rotation guy and if its a position player pick the player with the biggest potential with the bat. I don't like the rumors of trying to cut an underslot deal with players ranked much lower.
  11. 1) Wong back Thursday puts Peterson at 1b or the bench. Solves multiple criticisms of yours 2) Cain back around the 20th solidifies CF and puts Bradley on bench 3) Vogelbach back around Aug 1 improves the offense at 1b/ph/dh 4) Topa hopefully back in August strengthens the pen 5) Shaw back in mid-August strengthens 1b/3b/ph/DH Wong being back will help but he's been so injury prone this season that I'm not sure he can be counted on. Is Cain really that much better than Bradley at this point. Taylor should be the starting center fielder but with almost 30 million commited to the others he will probably not get a chance. Vogelbach does little to help this offense. Are we really counting on Topa? Shaw looks like just one more weak bat in a lineup full of them.
  12. With the first three games out of the break against this team we better start winning.
  13. These umps have clearly been terrible the last few nights on both sides. Its just frustrating that they may have cost us the game with the missed call before the home run.
