Anyone who has seen Yelich’s at bats, including Yelich himself, knows that he isn’t close to being elite. The raw numbers that you’re citing don’t capture the strikeouts and weak contact. Maybe he can regain the form he had in early 2018 before he exploded, but he isn’t close to that now. Half right. He does K way too much and chases bad pitches way too much (oddly, since he also BBs SO much). He is in the 92nd percentile of hard hit% so weak contact really isn't a problem. And of course Yelich should be better and says he should be better as his potential is the best hitter in the league. That doesn't mean he should be benched for underperforming compared to that lofty potential. Right now he is merely above average. The walk rate is all Yelich has going for him and its probably not sustainable unless he starts hitting.
