  1. Post #82 in the Cain injury thread has the info you are looking for.
  2. I couldn't be more thrilled with the Binelas pick. Remember that prior to the season it was projected that he would be gone before our first pick. Excellent risk/reward ratio with this selection and certainly at a position of need.
  3. So high school bats are supposed to be the strength of the draft. Too bad we don't appear to even scout much less draft high school players.
  4. Reminder that Brandon Woodruff was ranked #200 by Baseball America prior to the 2014 draft and this was his draft day scouting report… An unsigned fifth-round pick of out of high school in 2011, Woodruff had an uneven three years at Mississippi State. He had a stress fracture in his elbow last year and was expected to become a rotation stalwart this season, but moved to the bullpen after six starts. In the rotation he pitched at 88-92 mph, touching 94. He was at 91-95 mph out of the bullpen, touching 97 at his best. Woodruff primarily uses two-seamers and gets downhill plane and plus fastball life with hard sink and armside run. His best secondary offering is a changeup that shows plus potential. His slider shows average potential but has been inconsistent. He will likely be a reliever in pro ball, but he has the fastball, plus secondary pitch and body (6-foot-2, 231 pounds) for the rotation. He has walked 5.0 per nine for his career and 5.7 this season, with a 1.2 strikeout-walk ratio. Wasn't Woodruff drafted much later than this. His draft profile was fine for a mid round draft pick.
  5. When has this front office ever signed guys under slot in order to draft more unsignable guys later. Maybe they have but I don't recall this team doing it in recent years.
  6. Sounds like a big time reach. Based on what I think he was ranked over 100 and a guy that big that doesn't throw hard is hardly an exciting selection.
  7. Baez looks like an exciting prospect.
  8. Does this team even scout high school players or have they just given up on that entirely.
  9. Can you withdraw from the draft while its actually taking place.
  10. I'm still holding out hope for Binelas.
  11. Isn't he a high school guy and if yes you shouldn't have any expectations of a high school guy being picked in the early rounds. This is obviously a college oriented drafting team for better or worse.
  12. Name the best true centerfielders outside of Mike Trout and Ken Griffey jr. since Willie Mays hung up the cleats. Like it or not, we are going to draft guys with the potential defensive chops to play up the middle OR a guy like Hiura with that overwhelming hit/power combo with a high likelihood to reach that "potential." Sure, the comps you read about Colson Montgomery say best case scenario of Corey Seagar which lights up your brain....but perhaps our scouts didn't see that. Maybe our scouts saw a BEST case scenario of Colin Moran. Is that enough for you to pass on a guy like Frelick who could be Johnny Damon or Lenny Dykstra? I would draft a profile like Hiura over one like Frelich. Keston has star ability but somewhere it fell apart and I blame the Brewers and specifically Haines for his downfall.
  13. You mean like Jacob Gatewood, Monte Harrison, Corey Ray swing for the fences? I was fine with both Gatewood and Harrison. When you swing for the fences sometimes you miss but when it works out you have a star on your hands.
  14. Exactly. For all we know, Urias and Hiura or Tellez could be on their way to the All Star Game at this time next year, and we'll have the corner infield locked down for the net half decade. Its great to be optimistic but the odds of Hiura or Rowdy ever being all star level is ridiculously low. We should be lucky if either of them is serviceable much less star quality.
  15. The issue to me is that the first round should be about ceiling. Give me the best case scenario of Corey Seager which is the comp for Colson Montgomery over a best case scenario of someone like Adam Eaton which is probably a best case for a guy like Frelich. If this was a later pick I would have no issue with it but small market franchises should be swinging for the fences with premium draft picks instead of going with an attempt at a bunt single.
  16. One thing that has become pretty clear about this front office and scouting staff; they clearly prefer going the college route. Whether thats good or bad is up for debate but they don't use many high picks on high school players.
  17. So did Keston Hiura his senior year. I’d take college strikeouts versus walks with a very small grain of salt. Well sure, always take college stats with a grain of salt. That being said, Sal Frelick and Tyler Black both had identical 10.4% strikeout rates for their college careers. Keston Hiura had a 16% career strikeout rate in college and since appears to have altered his swing to hit for more power. Ironically MrTPlush, Frelick sort of reminds me a little bit of Nyjer Morgan, although it appears Frelick should have more power to drive it to the gaps for doubles. Is Nyjer Morgan the type of talent this team should be drafting in the first round. At this point in the draft they should have gone with someone with more upside and no it means nothing to me that he was mocked to go this high.
  18. I would have preferred Binelas who we hopefully pick in round two but I like this pick. He looks like a solid hitter with some power who can probably play second or third. Not a fan of small school players fearing the low level of competition but he appears to have a solid hit tool with some pop as well.
  19. I would be more than happy with Binelas at 33 though we might be able to wait till the second round.
  20. When scouts talk about intangibles its a way of saying yeah he's not very talented but boy does he try hard. In hockey terms the Brewers drafted a fourth liner with a premium pick.
  21. Better Montgomery went to that Chicago team.
  22. You aren't banned from posting. Nor do I think anything you've posted calls for being banned. And you are still here posting. Post away, just as the rest of us will as well. I appreciate it and am more than ok having a difference of opinions with the majority of posters who are more than respectful.
  23. Its not a good thing that I had to put someone on ignore because he was constantly stalking me. All opinions should be welcome not just the pom pom wavers.
  24. Mitchell is an absolute physical speciman with the upside for power to come. Much different profile than a 5'9 outfielder compared on a best case scenario to Brett Gardner.
