  1. Last year they drafted 6 high school players in rounds 11-40, and signed 4 of them. Yeah, I was thinking Payton Henry and Francisco Thomas were drafted later than they actually were.
  2. They did this last year to a much smaller degree and ended up signing the large majority of them.
  3. This is certainly not a coincidence.
  4. Has to be the case. They were kind of log jammed in the minors this year trying to find spots for everyone, maybe they don't want too many knew faces on these short season teams.
  5. They have to be thinking a lot of these are not going to sign.
  6. I gotta say I'm weirdly interested in that Carmona, Abreu, Familia, Florentino quartet on the DSL team. Familia was getting a bit of hype going into last season and the other four, IIRC, were half a million or more signs this last signing period. I just don't remember the DSL squad having quite that kind of depth before. We have seen an interesting piece or two come through the international program but it would be nice if that could become a steadier talent stream. I think we are seeing the start of a trickle with guys like Wuilder Rodriguez, Franly Mallen, Jay Feliciano, Yeraldy Martinez and Gilbert Lara showing varying levels of success/promise.
  7. I doubt they have much if any. I'd bet most of these signs are pretty close to slot.
  8. Maybe he has 60 grade scrap and grit.
  9. Well sure but the single scouting report that he put up was a single sentence that only praises the player while leaving out the part that actually has legitimate concerns about the player. Why not just put the whole thing up instead of just the sunshine and puppies part? Yeah, but he also included that he was going to need a lot of work. I don't think anyone would have been under the impression that we stumbled upon some sure thing in the fifth round.
  10. Why not put the rest of it up there? Takes a ton of shine off of the pick. Not for me, not in the fifth round.
  11. Hiura can hit though you're right, he doesn't have a position at least until they can evaluate his injury and the proper medical evaluation. Lutz will sign. No way the Brewers draft him if they don't think he can sign. I agree about Lemons. Seems like a big project and we don't do well with those in the past. KJ is a hitter pure and simple. Much like Hiura, they are drafting bats and finding places to put them. You did note the blue, right? I actually have very little concern over whether he can handle second I am nearly certain Lutz will sign Lemons may be a project but we have plenty of candidates for the middle and back end of a rotation. I have no issue with going after what hey believe is a TOR arm in the future at that spot. Even if that means its a project. I have no issue with finding a position for a good bat.
  12. I think when it was orginally said he didn't have a defensive position was a bit off the mark. Everything I have read today says there is no concern about playing 2B. Yeah, I forgot about the blue font thing.
  13. If you do, you should call Attanasio and explain to him why you should be in the front office instead of Sterns and company. **Sarcasm**
  14. So we have drafted a second basemen who can't play second, some dude named Lutz that we can't sign, a pitcher that is too tall to pitch and a catcher that can't catch. Do I have that about right?
  15. That isn't really true. It is more no one really knows if he can or not because he hasn't played there that much since his freshman year. So now we need to change the rules so we can play with a DH and no catcher, right?
  16. I'm guessing a lot of deal making going on last night after teams knew what they were working with.
  17. Enlow and Heatherly gone quickly.
  18. Well that article certainly makes it clear that the Brewers did their due diligence regarding the elbow and are confident in that aspect of things. Not being a pitcher, I'm not sure TJS is as long of a term issue as it is with pitchers. Even so, it sounds like he has already had opinions that he isn't going to need surgery to fix it. Time will tell but the bat is legit. They also seem very confident in his ability to play 2B. I just can't get all that worked up over that issue.
  19. I mean, the Brewers have been pretty terrible at drafting for a while. I think people can certainly express their opinion on why they didn't think a certain player was the right pick over a player they wanted. Of course they can. I don't recall telling anyone they couldn't. I would think, though, that the other side gets a voice too. Nobody was being attacked or having their opinion silenced. I will say though that the opinion that the Brewers haven't drafted well in a while is a bit of a blanket statement. The current regime hasn't been in place all that long and frankly I think they have done an excellent job of adding talent up and down the system in a number of different ways including the draft. Everyone can have an opinion but there is far more hyperbole coming from the "anti" camp right now.
  20. I'd probably slot him 4th behind Hader. You have maybe the best pure hitter in the draft with what projects to be a plus power tool. I haven't seen anyone say they don't think he can play second, just that he hasn't played that spot much so he hasn't been scouted there defensively. If he sticks at second you have an all-star but the bat still plays if he moves to LF.
  21. I forgot about Enlow as well. I know the Scout guys are also pretty high on sophomore Arkansas RHP Blaine Knight who rose up draft boards this spring. To your point it seems likely that some solid pitching options should be available early on tomorrow. Look, sometimes this board gets carried away with who should have been picked where and whatnot. We think we know because we see some stats, see a start on tv or two and a couple of youtube videos. The fact is the Brewers have been tracking, watching and evaluating these kids for years. They have seen them play live multiple times by multiple people. They have interviewed them, their coaches and their families. They have analytics we can't even comprehend. The sheer amount of time and effort that goes into evaluating any one player is mind boggling. Maybe that player busts, maybe that player is marginal, maybe that player becomes a star. Who knows, but the Brewers are not the only club that goes through that process. Half the picks in the second round could be considered reaches or risky even by conservative standards. I, for one, am excited to see the new talent in the system perform. I'll save my judgements of that talent in due time as we all will.
