  1. That kid doesn't keep his elbow up at all! I doubt he will be drafted. Seems a little stiff, but I like the quick twitch athleticism. Good speed and nice vertical, very toolsy. Probably and outfielder though.
  2. I think he should catch.
  3. No, an .841 road OPS is not bad at all, but it is much more in line with his career numbers which, as you noted, is not all that impressive in the power department. I have no doubt he has a very good hit tool and knows how to get on base but his ability to get to his power tool in games is questionable. I'd like him as a bench bat if he could handle the other corners. Cooper's played some OF in the past. Really, I feel his value is that he makes it easy to trade Aguilar for some bullpen help or prospects. You deal Aguilar to Seattle for James Pazos, then bring up Cooper to take his spot and DFA/option a poorly-performing reliever. Except there is nothing all to suggest he is a replacement for Aguilar.

  5. Tucker Neuhaus 0-6 with six strikeouts. Not sure I've ever seen that before.
  6. Would have liked to have seen one of those high school short stops sign. Really good haul though. Diaz and Morales were great gets as late as they were drafted.
  7. So Randy Wolf? I think he's better than a four on a playoff team.
  8. So it looks like the may have something close to another million with the slots they aquired. Sever top 50 players look to be unsigned according to BA. Are they going after one more big fish, so to speak?
  9. I still think the Cubs are a team that can flip the switch at some point. None of the other teams in the division scare me at all but the Cubs have the most talent in the division and I don't think it's all that close. I'm still not sure I have a ton of faith in our pitching.
  10. Unless, you know, there is, like, more to it than a stat line.
  11. Hirua was one of, if not the, best bat(s) in college last year. I'd be very, very worried if he were not destroying low level rookie ball. I'm so tired of blanket evaluations of player development based on nothing more than a stat line while giving zero consideration to context. Post after post assuming a linear development path for every prospect, it's just amazing. He plays second, there has never been any question about where is going to play.
  12. That is about 3mil then. What do they have left?
  13. Essentially, yes. He is there to "rehab" the arm but is still able to hit so why not.
  14. Took advantage of that. Thanks for the heads up.
  15. So what is the actual status on Simmons and Beam? Between the Brewers Dev feed and the roster listings, I'm not clear on that.
  16. THIS is the post I've been waiting for. So if your theory is correct, I would assume we sign the majority of those guys in the teen rounds. I'm guessing, then, that McClanahan had a much higher grade than where he was drafted at to command that amount of a bonus last year? So these guys would be more Payton Henry than Chad McClanahan.
  17. He played all of 8 games at Wisconsin last year. He had a grand total of 441 at bats at Wisconsin coming in to this season. I'd say he's had about a season and a half of actual AB's at his current level. He just turned 22 and is still age appropriate for the level. He already has more extra base hits than he has ever hit in a whole season and his current SLG is certainly not "close" to his career MiLB numbers. Still, the numbers are not great and I doubt he amounts to much but we can at least be fair with the assessment.
  18. Uh no. I'm sure they have a much more detailed plan than that. We have read some pretty concrete examples of teams being in contact with players before they draft them. We know they discuss how much it is going to take to sign the player. I also know that at 18 I had zero interest in college. If someone had offered me a quarter million (plus paying for my college later if I wanted to go), I would have jumped at the chance. I'm sure I'm not unique in that. None of those kids in the 11-18 round range have declared they absolutely will not sign (to my knowledge). That would seem to indicate they are at least open to the idea of signing. I don't know if they have the cash to sign all of them but I'd bet the Brewers think they do. I'm skeptical but I was skeptical last year too and they signed almost all of the kids who did not immediately declare they would not sign.
  19. I'm sure they'll target all of them, how many they can sign is another question all together.
  20. Does that include the 100K we can offer without going into our bonus pools? And what about the taxable/non-taxable overage?
  21. The system is vastly different than it was a few years ago. Multiple guys at every level from MLB down to A ball already are, or could play 1B. Maybe my prospect threshold level is higher, but I don't see a legit MLB 1B prospect at each level, let alone multiple. Cooper at AAA has hit his way to be considered as a prospect. He deserves a shot to become Overbay, even if his OPS away from CS is only 800. No one else should be considered at 1B. Demuth is a poor-man's Cooper. He has done better than expected, but I wouldn't consider him a legit prospect. I suppose Nottingham is the other 1B possibility. Gateway is a legit prospect. And if he can continue anywhere close to this year's production is probably the 1B of the future. Ghelfi has been playing C, but I'm not sure his bat plays at 1B. Erceg could be considered, but I think he has proven enough to say he will stick at 3B defensively. And his bat will determine if he makes the MLB level. Ronnie Gideon hit the cover off the ball last year, but he needs to do it against players his age before I consider him a prospect. And he isn't doing it this year. No one else at A ball is considered a 1B. Gabriel Garcia is interesting to me. Came out of no where, but hit well against players his age and doing so again this year (limited ABs). Chad McClanahan is another possibility if he can't manage 3B defense. But at best, both are fringe prospects. So, by my count, there is Gatewood, Nottingham, Cooper, and Garcia as prospects in my eyes. Gideon, McClanahan, and Ghelfi have some more to prove before I put them in prospect status. We aren't flush with prospects, but still much better than before, especially at MLB/AAA level. I don't think your threshold is any higher than that of anyone else. I just think your definition/evaluation of a prospect is based almost entirely on a stat line, which is fine. You're not the only one by a long shot. Others tend to give some, or more, weight to things like tools and upside. This is why most top prospect lists made by folks who do that sort of thing for a living will have a McClanahan ranked much higher than a Gabe Garcia. A board like this one, where all we really have are stat line and the occasional scouting report, will probably look at a Garcia more favorably than those other lists.
  22. I just think that in general, the system has far more athleticism that it has had.............maybe ever.
  23. Feels like the Josh Hader guide to major league ascension doesn't it.
  24. 100? Try in the neighborhood of 250. I doubt he is involved in every move but I'd bet he's consulted on the bigger names.
