  1. In addition to Sibrian and Perez, I also don't see Nic Pierre, Antonio Piniero, or Jesus Lujano. Minus Perez, I think those all were relatively high profile signs as well. I'd guess all are coming state side.
  2. No. It's been less than 150 at bats so far. I think given the lack of success up until this year, he is going to need to do this the entire year to get that recognition. I also highly doubt that BA is going to make any dramatic changes in their list until mid season and that should be the case. No need to overreact to what amounts to a small sample. I think this was a move to clear out folks that had graduated off the list.
  3. Updated BA top 100 87) Isan Diaz 74) Brandon Woodruff 73) Luis Ortiz 36) Corey Ray 31) Josh Hader 20) Lewis Brinson
  4. I don't know if the gun at five counties is accurate but I can tell you none of the pitchers in that game threw over 90 according to said gun. Now, I didn't check every pitch but I watched it fairly closely. Peralta sat 84/85 touching 88. Diplan sat 85/86 touching 90. We didn't have great seats to judge location but I would have described Peralta as wild in the zone and Diplan as effectively wild. When Peralta missed, he got hit hard. Our seats were directly next the the bullpen mound and it was interesting to listen to the conversation between the pitching coach and Diplan just before he came into the game. They had a plan for Reyes but after that he was basically given a green light to work on whatever he felt he needed to work on while he was out there. We saw Wuilder Rodriguez warming up right next to Diplan for a stretch and I thought Rodriguez threw harder though Rodriguez was warming up to get Peralta out of trouble while Diplan was warming up for an extended appearance. Offensively, Gatewood really looks the part. I was a little disappointed by the offense as a whole. Even the McDowell double was more a result of a bad route that the left fielder took on what should have been a moderately difficult catch. With the exception of one person I don't think any of the hitters looked overwhelmed. They just had, for whatever reason, a difficult time squaring up the ball in that game. Having said that, the "one person" would have been Trent Clark. At times he looked lost and the other times he looked overwhelmed. His bat looked slow. He actually did a full 360 on a swinging third strike at one point. He just seemed to be behind everything and never looked like he had a solid approach. Just my (worth less than) two cents.
  5. I'll just say this was much more time consuming than I thought it would be. I got down to these 35 or so and could make an argument for most of them. I think the first 15 - 20 are a really strong group. I dream about what this system could be if they find one or two blue chip prospects. Brinson, Lewis Hader, Josh Ortiz, Luis Diaz, Isan Lopez, Jorge Ray, Corey Erceg, Lucas Woodruff, Brandon Bickford, Phil Dubon, Mauricio Williams, Taylor Diplan, Marcos Clark, Trent Kirby, Nathan Phillips, Maverick Harrison, Monte Cordell, Ryan Ponce, Cody Gatewood, Jake Lara, Gilbert Nottingham, Jacob Webb, Braden Burnes, Corbin Feliciano, Mario Medeiros, Kodi Coulter, Clint Neuhaus, Tucker Yamamoto, Jordan Williams, Devin Supak, Trey Orimoloye, Demi Pennington, Josh Walters, Nash McClanahan, Chad Taylor, Tyrone
  6. Got mine for the 15th when Frederick comes to town. right behind the Cats bullpen.
  7. This is a horrible mis-characterization. If Davis gets injured tomorrow and never plays again, does that make this a good trade? Point being that hindsight is 20/20. When Davis was traded, he was a decent power bat who struck out a ton and was a liability in the OF. The return was one of the better catching prospects in the game and a sleeper with potential upside. That actually seems like a pretty fair deal to me. If we are going to judge a trade well after the fact, then at least let it play out. Just because said trade does not fit a particular narrative about how one believes the franchise should move forward, and is reinforced by some flakey scouting report, does not make it a mistake.
  8. I doubt it has any value and it wouldn't matter if it did. They boys have gotten autographs from any number of players that have moved through. They just enjoy the interaction with the players and the memory of watching a guy "back when".
  9. Very exciting news. I live in Holly Springs, a suburb on the south side of Raleigh (not sure I would call Zebulon a suburb). It's about a 30/45 minute trip to the ball park. The stadium itself is definitely small and a bit antiquated. I will say the owners make up for a lot of that with the experience. My kids love going, almost more than the much more upscale park in Durham. It's a very quaint feel and the players are always accessible for the kids. My kids still have a t-shirt that was a giveaway one night. They were able to fill the shirt with autographs including those of Francisco Lindor and Tyler Naquin. Others may disagree but I have never failed to really enjoy a game there.
