I liked Haase, but he even in his limited at bats he hasn't flashed the power and he is striking out 40.3% of the time. I am perfectly fine with this swap. Best of luck to Haase and hope there is a way to keep him at AAA for depth.

Quero pulled from AAA tonight with no real reason as to why. For the record, that would be an insaneo overpay for Suarez, but just noting it.

The market for a starting caliber 3B does not include teams that need an expiring SP. The market is also pretty thin. McMahon is going to take prospects only, Kiner-Falefa is going to take prospects only. You might be able to swing something with Arizona (Civale + ?) for Suarez if they commit to Lawler. Dodgers and Braves could use an arm but they aren't matches and would take a third team. Trading Patrick right now would go against everything the Brewers want to achieve. He is slotted into the middle of the rotation for the next five years in a perfect world with Henderson, Mis, Meyers, Gasser (etc) so it would take an overpay from someone for the Brewers to even consider it.

If it was a breaking ball I would petition hard for the "Swashbuckler" - good pirate play on his name plus buckles their knees. Doesn't work as well for a changeup(esqe) pitch though.

Wiemer was blocked by how many total outfielders (6? Black, Hicklen + MLB) with a busted swing which has produced no power in AAA. There has been no positive progression on Wiemer's swing, my only nod here is he did get more patient - but the fact that he has any value at all right now to get a SP in the market is a win and didn't cost a leverage prospect. Junis was good for sure, but that sample is still small, and doesn't DL Hall / Ross just take that role? This feels like a "having too many arms figures itself out" - Junis was on a one year, Montas is a rental, Wiemer makes a fun story for Cinci with the hometown kid. Now just in Arnold/Hook we trust.

If Mitchell can guarantee health, then it's Mitchell. However, we all know that isn't the case so there shouldn't be any strong investment into Mitchell at this time as a cornerstone. That being said, isn't the answer just both right now? Getting Yelich more starts at DH makes us even stronger defensively. Plus someone suggesting Frelick sees AAA again is a bit ridiculous. All of Frelick, Mitchell, and Perkins have proven they are MLB players so the line is either deal one of send Black back down and play shorter in the IF. While I would love to say "deal Frelick" - the second Mitchell is hurt again, we all will be kicking ourselves.

This is the only Brewers forum I trust to really get any legitimate discussion around the team. That isn't a shot at the "casual" fan, but this forum has always been able to take the team and talk about the team a step past casual which I think is very hard to find nowadays. The coverage of the Minor league teams is fantastic and I think should be highlighted more. I think some threads can get contentious at times very unnecessarily and there are still a few "power" users that think their post count directly resonates to the standing of their opinion, but I would say that is fewer and far between over the last few years and unavoidable in nature in a forum setting. Been lurking or posting here since somewhere back in 2005 (lost an account somewhere in 2015), but ultimately wouldn't change anything and this provides a nice home.

In the middle of a 13-straight-game stretch, this PPD comes at about the best possible time to be honest. Get the pen and legs fresh for Baltimore.

I definitely value & understand everyone's perspective here, but the total time it takes to get a parking pass on your phone, point your phone at QR code, and type in your license plate is a quicker process (yes, when everything is operational to expectation) than a line of cars, one-by-one, in rows of two, going up to a pay stall and handing a person cash/card/scan. Realistically this is a 30-second process if not quicker. I don't think this is as "inconvenient" as everyone is making it out to be, just another example of something changing and people being unwilling to adapt.

Maybe it is just because his name is mentioned a lot in this Thread, but I see a lot of Yelich in this swing. Bat placement, leg load, etc.

Heavy slider/sinker guy. Arguably best year of his career last year. Threw his Slider over 62% of the time and held opposing hitters to .216/.369 - I don't think he will get away with that as a starter though and his sinker was hit pretty hard last year. Didn't walk a ton last year and more than a K/9 - seems like a guy right up the Milwaukee alley that a few tweaks could unlock something. Just wonder how the heavy slider usage translates to being a starter instead of reliever.

Hall's stuff is super intriguing and at least should be penciled in to make an impact right away - I hope they have starting aspirations as the pen seems to be in pretty straightforward shape right now. Obviously, time will tell but I am fine rolling the dice of six years of a guy with an on-paper elite fastball. He fared well out of the pen last summer - scoreless in 13/16 appearances between Aug-Oct with one bad appearance inflating everything (3 earned). He also only walked 5 in 19 innings. I keep seeing reports of "control issues" - I know it is just on paper, but doesn't seem to be that glaring of an issue to me? I also fail to understand the constant reference to "glove-first" comments on Ortiz. He has 33 career at-bats in the MLB and none are consistently in a row... Shouldn't we just toss this sample? He's hit at every level of the minor leagues and raked at AAA last year - he hit .321 and even slugged .507 in 389 at-bats with a sub 18% K rate - that's a big sample. I guess my point is looking at Ortiz's '22 and '23 MiLB numbers this seems like a guy that most people would be super excited about acquiring and yet I don't get that vibe here at all because I just see people here (and Twitter) referencing a 33 at-bat MLB sample. Seems if this is a "glove-first" guy, then the bat should surprise us. Sad to lose Burnes, but I really do not know what more people were expecting to get in a trade for him as a rental. I know the response is "wait until the deadline" but players get hurt, his value could have dropped, etc. There are variables always at play - I think this trade is pretty solid. Wish Coby Mayo was a part of it, but hopefully we look back in six months and have positives to say about it.

As a mostly daily lurker it is wild to see that we have reached a point where Houser NOT being on this team has thrown us all into a tizzy. I really have yet to see the Joe Ross signing acknowledged anywhere in this thread. I know it's not needle-pushing, but he is going to be in the rotation and I think is being forgotten about a lot already. The trade is meh - Brewers clearly value Perkins > Taylor. There isn't enough room for them all. I would have preferred Houser as depth for this year but '24 was likely to be the last of him in a Brewers jersey regardless. Return does feel light though. But per usual, we are reactionary and quick to just yell that the team is cheap. It's December.

Joe Ross probably ends up being the direct Houser replacement here.

Yeah definitely don't disagree, just spit-balling ideas on how to use Ross/Wilson. I don't necessarily think because Wilson failed as a starter elsewhere correlates to him 100% failing as a starter in Milwaukee. But I do agree it probably isn't worth it to find out or ruin a now good thing. No qualms here about more guys who can go more innings. Good insurance on the backend of the rotation.

Unlikely, but maybe Milwaukee will transition Bryse Wilson into a starter role and Ross will take his swing spot? Wilson only went 3+ innings five times in '23, but I was surprised to see he only allowed one total run over those five games. Of course it's a ridiculously small sample size, but never know since he made 41 starts between 21-22.

Brewers just got a new face to the franchise. You give value to get value. Yelich is still young and if things don't go as planned, be flipped in two years. Harrison has superstar potential, but he has equal bust potential. Diaz/Hiura couldn't necessarily exist together and Diaz coming off of a down year. We also didn't mortgage any of the future pitching wise. Brinson will likely be a future all star, but he had some injury concern and you got a sure thing for him. Short-term, this has to make every Brewers fan very excited. Domingo might wanna keep his phone close by these next few days though...
