Agreed here. Cortes was a 4.4 WAR in '22 and 2.6 WAR in '24. He had an injury-shortened '23. He made two starts for us, one was *very* bad, one was *very* good.
You can't fault Cortes for being injured and he has looked strong in his rehab outings. If they don't move Nestor, he is likely to play a large role down the stretch. If they do move him, there is absolutely more value to him than people are assessing. Starting Pitching is a lot of teams main need, it just isn't ours.
In terms of Quintana, I don't think by any means he has been "great" outside of an ERA that looks nice on paper. He has the highest WHIP of any active pitcher on the Brewers staff, and ranks in the bottom 20% of xERA, xBA, velo, and Whiff%. He is bailed out by a higher than average GB% and is just good at limiting barrels, but his expected ERA is pushing 5 (though it has been this way his entire career). He also has been putrid in Milwaukee, with a 4.91 ERA at home that we don't really talk about. I know this is nit-picky, but with as deep of a SP staff we currently have, the argument for Cortes vs, Quintana is one to have.
