  1. Curious to see what the Pads are getting out of this Bauer trade. Also, shocked the Indians traded Bauer when they're as good as they are.
  2. If the two Smiths don't get better, but just replicate their production from last year, this defense is going to be so much better. As for Burks, he's a converted safety. They can't be too surprised he's lagging behind. I'd imagine they're looking around at possible veteran cuts.
  3. I never said or suggested it was shocking. Daniels is an all purpose 3 technique who's played a 5 and over the center throughout his career. He's been a good pass rusher and a good run defender. How does that not fit schematically with Pettine? I understand they have younger players they need to play. Saying-"He is a run stuffer, period. There's still value in that in today's NFL, but not enough to justify $8MM for a few short yardage snaps every game." That's just not an accurate description of him as a player and diminished who he is and what he's done.
  4. I've bought a few phones from Amazon that were refurbished. I've one bad experience, and that was because I needed one immediately the next day and I couldn't get the one I wanted. Other than that, they've all been pretty much the same as any new phones I've bought.
  5. I actually watched that...live. Watched Delino Deshields daughter play in the skills competition. First time I've watched a WNBA event and I'm glad I did.
  6. No, I asked the question just how I wanted to. You keep suggesting this idea Daniels is more limited than the other Packers defensive linemen. Right here you're saying he's just a run stuff. That's not true. He's been a very effective pass rusher, particularly from as an interior pass rusher in this system almost his entire career. You're describing him as though he's a Vince Wolfork type in the very late stages of his career. That's just not the case. There's a reason he was signed immediately after he was let go by the Lions while other teams called about him. We've got depth, we've got only so much money to spend and Kenny Clark due a massive payday in the near future. But there's no need to diminish the player Daniels was or is.
  7. Holland is pretty much the exact type of player I'd like to see the Brewers targeting for the most part. Someone who could get on a roll and throw like he did last year for the Nats, but who won't cost much. Unless the team is going to add a bunch of payroll or part with the few highly regarded prospects they have, which I'd prefer they didn't, that seems like the Brewers best shot.
  8. This is based on the assumption that Molitor was demanding that to stay in Milwaukee. I believe he agreed to a 2 year deal before the Blue Jays offered a 3rd year at the last minute because they were worried about him going back to Milwaukee. Molitor didn't even start considering other teams until a month after the season and no word from the Brewers. https://shepherdexpress.com/sports/brew-crew-confidential/messy-divorce-brewers-paul-molitor/ I don't think the Bf.net would be the least bit upset about signing someone for 3 years and 50 million when they were coming off the type of seasons Molitor was even if that is what it would have taken to sign him, but they instead offered him a pay cut. And the fact that this was a career Brewer also absolutely factors into it. This isn't Willy Randolph coming over later in his career or Dave Parker, it's a career boarderline HOF'er(at the time) who wants to be there. And you're just basically ignoring him, hoping he signs with someone else so you can justify not spending the money on him.
  9. Pretty typical training camp stories, but still, really nice to hear. https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/packers-training-camp-2019/2019/7/29/8935066/four-players-trending-up-packers-first-four-training-camp-practices-2019-adams-greene-tonyan-vitale#512572489 Tonyan also looks like he could be a potential difference maker.
  10. I'm sorry man, what happened?
  11. You have the Mets giving up a pretty decent controllable catcher and one of the top starters on the market and receiving a rental catcher, a #4 type OF, and a minor league pitcher who shows promise, but nowhere near TOR. I'd love the trade if I was the Padres and Brewers. The Mets would be getting royally screwed. You think maybe it's just possible that some teams are looking at the former 1st round pick who's overhauled his swing and exploded this year just a bit differently than you?
  12. Exactly. I think this trade shows Stearns isn't delusional and understands even if we can find a way to win this division, we're simply outclassed by the Braves and the Dodgers who IMO are outclassed by the Yanks and the 'Stros. I just can't see Stearns paying the price to get one of the starters, Syndergaard, Ray, whoever, given where we are.
  13. Do you really believe this? Do you really think Stearns could deal for....Syndergaard hypothetically, but then find out that because he's not available right away to make an emergency start-he wouldn't do it? And Stearns has shown the ABILITY to not overpay and panic when multiple teams are interested in a pitcher. Yu Darvish anyone? Craig Kimbrel? I want to know all these pitchers that he wasn't able to acquire who look good even in retrospect. Pitchers that were realistically expected to be good.
  14. And if unfortunately they don't, you have Sept to use to try and get a cleaner picture of what you've got in some guys like Burnes, Peralta(I still want to see him given another shot as a starter as well, but he may "just" be a reliever), Grisham, etc.... I actually liked Ponce though. I thought he could be a part of the BP in the upcoming years. Not that I'm upset about this deal...they do need someone to start games.
  15. And who would you give up for him? Marcos Diplan...it's a dead even trade...done. I don't think Diplan is getting you anything of consequence. Though after looking closer at Alberto, the fact that he's struggled so badly vs right handers(sub .600 OPS) and all his value comes from hitting lefties where he has a .448 BABIP, that might fit the bill. Not sure where he fits though. He's played 2nd and 3rd and we don't have much room at either. Unless we're selling Moose. Then I guess we platoon Shaw and Alberto.
  16. You might have to read other posts for context.
  17. Are we talking about the same Ivan Nova with the 5.23 ERA - 5.22 FIP. 150 hits in only 125 IPs. 73 ERs and 1.7 HR per 9. Making over $9.1M and a rental to boot? No thanks! Agreed, I'd just assume put Jimmy Nelson back into the rotation if this is all they can do for Pitching. It would be no different performance wise. It almost certainly would.
  18. Jesus...the guy who said that he wouldn't consider trading Josh Hader for Tatis Jr, Paddack, Gore and Mejia...really shouldn't be talking to people like this. Arrogance and another words that sounds real similar is a VERY bad combination.
  19. Not being condescending at all, but you'd really give up 2 of those 3 or all three for a rental in Wheeler and a schizophrenic bullpen arm?? I would rather put that on the table for Robbie Ray to be honest. Idk, I know Arcia sucks, and Burnes has been bad this year, but he is young, has a power arm and tons of control left. I'm all for trading Arcia and Burnes and Turang, I'd just like to think a package like that could bring back more than this. I think you're vastly underestimating what Diaz is worth. He's still one of the premier relievers in baseball, and he's controlled. He doesn't suddenly suck, he's just been really unlucky. Wheeler yeah, he's a rental, much less value, but still definitely fills a major current need. Incidentally, baseballtradevalues.com has Arcia+Burnes+Turang ($50.4M total value) as a close match for Diaz+Wheeler ($58.10M total value). I don't care what that site values Turang at, I wouldn't move him. I also wouldn't move Burnes...as much because it's the worst time to move him. He can't possibly put up a worse line. Two wins over the terrible on the road Cubs still doesn't have me in a big buying mood.
  20. Just keep it open or it'll be another thread with the same theme. Though this one is particularly confusing. You can't say Trout, but you're supposed to list any player you'd trade him for and you're not supposed to consider salary or team control(you know, two of the three factors teams use...and of particular import for teams with less revenue).
  21. You can't guarantee that Hiura won't need Tommy John over the next 5 years. You don't trade for pitchers with a guarantee attached. That said, those who we'd consider trading him for(Walker Buehler types...though I'd be hard pressed to find another young arm like his)...their teams wouldn't trade him for Hiura.
  22. No, YOU do that. Most people on the board try to balance the two. Good luck with retirement though....
  23. This seems stupid. I have a hard time seeing the return on thor being THAT much better than the return on stroman. Also the 1/2 year of stroman this year is wasted on them, so hard to see them winning the bidding on stroman anyways. I get the feeling the Mets FO thinks they are smarter than every other team. That would be a baffling move....and actually make sense for the Mets at the same time. The comment about the FO seems like a perfect description of them? Is that owner still recovering from the Maddoff scheme or what? They just don't seem like the behave like they should. They don't seem particularly smart and they don't seem to be investing in their farm system. I guess they spent money to bring Cano and Diaz back, but they gave up their top prospects in order to do so.
  24. Same here. Cruz was coming up at the same time or right behind Hart IIRC. They basically throw in the qualifier that the Rangers put him throw waivers, so it's not like the Brewers traded away a ready made prospect.
  25. That would have been a nice target for the Brewers. A hard throwing lefty who wouldn't cost too much. Oh well..
