This I will agree with and it was my main concern. You can get guys like Aguilar and Shaw pretty much whenever you want but there's a huge risk in relying on them because they were never really highly touted with great tools that you could consistently rely on. So you get a good couple years out of them and you expect them to continue and then they just fall off. A scorched earth rebuild, while painful is probably more sustainable long term in a market like this than hoping to find a bunch of guys like Shaw and Aguilar to consistently contribute over a number of years. I know we're in the extreme minority here, but I would be fine with a scorched earth rebuild. None of us knows for sure, but I'm guessing something that drastic is a Mark A decision, not Stearns. For all we know that could have been he plan until they had the unexpected success in 2017 already. I thought that was clearly the plan. But then they found themselves a game away from the playoffs, Yelich and Cain were both available for....relatively cheap prices and there goes the Astros/Cubs rebuild. I was all for that type of rebuild. But I think people are way to down on talent the Brewers have right now. I get nobody can count on Burnes after this year, but I'm still of the belief that he can be a contributor. They have a lot of young, talented pieces. They certainly have holes and problems, but even without something drastic, they should have a great pen, a really nice offensive core and some pieces for the rotation. Of course the "pieces" of that rotation they're missing are the toughest to find. Honestly, if you could get some massive haul for Yelich and Hader and just start over, I wouldn't be 100 pct against that. I just don't think things are as bleak as this season would suggest. MOST things that could make or break this team, just simply went wrong this year.

It's amazing how many years we can watch Badgers FB, watch players wildly exceed expectations and then just declare with this level of certainty what will happen... In fact, I would almost guarantee that you'd have said the same when Tolzien took over in 2009 before leading the Badgers to 21 wins and a 2 PT conversion away from a top 3 national ranking. I haven't actually watched Coan in Spring Practice or camp, so I won't guess how he's progressed, but It'd be foolish enough to write him off. Especially with the talent around him. All he has to do is be a competent passer. We have good receiving options, he has a strong arm and Taylor and the running game makes the job far easier. Do people really not remember that Hornibrook led us to a 13-1 record and a TD away from getting into the playoffs in the B10 Championship game?
-
Well, he's having a better season and he may have adjusted his ask now being two years older. There's also the fact that it's a particularly weak FA class. There are a couple nice DH's and then Rendon, Donaldson. I'm sure there are a couple other solid FA's, but overall, it's one of the worst years in a while. Much stronger FA pitching class.

Link Report for Friday 8/16 - TGIF!
OnTheBlack replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
He has had four good outings in a row out of the pen. 12k’s over his last 5 2/3 innings. Maybe he has turned a corner? MAYBE. We'll have to see. The way his FB moved was so much less effective coming back than it was before the injury. And the fact that he needs multiple days between appearances...I'm not real confident he's going to provide much if any help the rest of this year. I think the best chance that Nelson has to ever help the Brewers again is if they're able to work out a deal next year. I don't know if he signs a Minor League deal or what. But after we DFA him, I'd like to see him be given one more chance. Just really awful luck. The Brewers had a budding young ace and this year they'd have had him atop their rotation, Woodruff and that could have been worth a 5-6 game swing. -
Billy Hamilton? Seriously? I can't even take this seriously. He's had one year with an OBP over .300, he hasn't been as good defensively this year as Cain. Cain meanwhile put up a .308/.395/.417 line last year and has been a FAR more productive player. So you don't think teams might consider the fact that he's hit into poor luck and analytics suggest he's performed better than his slash line this year would suggest? Why even have an analytics department then if you believe these teams ignore them? And I will simply imagine if a CF'er who has put up 22.4 WAR in the previous 4 years before struggling this year while dealing with bad luck and injuries. I would look at the extremely weak FA class(I'd probably pay attention to how he finishes out the year) and then look at how he's still performing at close to a GG level defensively and I'm thinking he's getting a bit more than you're suggesting. Well, this is a poor strawman and using the old, "people say." I don't recall a lot of people saying this over a 3 year period, I remember it particularly last year , but Braun's been a productive hitter, especially since the start of last August. But again, Braun's totally irrelevant here. Braun's clearly been on a downward trend for several years, doesn't play a premium position and has little to no defensive value. Cain has not. Again, 22.4 WAR over the previous 4 years for Cain. I'd certainly think Josh Donaldson would be a better comp than pinch runner Billy Hamilton. Donaldson was extremely productive the previous 4 years(28.4 WAR), struggled with injuries, posted 0 Dwar and just 1.3. But even the notoriously cheap Braves gave him over 23 million this past year counting on the fact that despite being 33 years old, he'd bounce back and the one season that he dealt with injury that caused him to NOT be a productive player was the outlier, not the season he struggled. There are at least some similarities between their trajectories whereas with Hamilton...all I see is they're both black, fast and play CF. Front offices are a bit more nuanced than that. By the way, the top FA CF'ers in this upcoming class.... 36 year old Alex Gordon...34/35 Adam Jones, Jerod Dyson and the aforementioned Bill Hamilton. So yeah, I think a team looking for a CF'er would take chance on a CF'er with Cain's recent history, poor luck/minor injuries and playoff experience.
-
If Gamel can play CF'er, I believe Grisham can as well. But certainly not as an everyday option. I'd really just hold onto him and see if he can bounce back next year, something I fully expect him to do. I don't expect him to spend much of the year around .300/400 like he did last year, but if he can get that walk rate back to 10 pct, .285/.340 is perfectly reasonable and given his defense, very valuable. And if he has a nice bounce back year next year and you want to trade him, then you're trading a guy with 2 years left on his deal coming off a pretty strong year. Of course nobody wants to trade someone when they're coming off a good year and you're trying to compete...but at least we'd have the option and another year of a healthy(hopefully) Ray to see if there's anything there.
-
Absolutely. I don't think there's any question. I was late to this bandwagon. I thought this was the usual hometown hero type guy. But he's a little over 6'4, 215, runs a 4.5, 6.9 shuttle, so athletically, he's an NFL caliber WR'er. And his hand are outstanding. He's made contested catches, he knows how to find the soft spot in the zone, he can beat guys off the line, and he's a great route runner and has Rodgers trust. I think the question should be more about how high he's ascended on the depth chart. Is it possible he passes Allison and becomes 2B to MVS across from Adams? I'd like to see them keep St. Brown and then I'm torn between Davis and Shepard just because Shepard isn't as fast and it really looked as though Davis was becoming a more aggressive and effective WR'er. Attacking the ball at it's highest point, going up and over guys to get it. It looked like he was finally emerging and he's a pretty good return man. But Shepard, despite a poor 40 times(which really isn't a great indicator of future success in many cases anyway) has the quickness to play in the slot and looked very good scrambling to get open in the back of the endzone on the Boyle TD pass. I'd go with Adams as the 1, MVS as the 2, Allison probably getting the reps to start in the slot, Kumerow in the rotation, St. Brown and then I really don't know. Lazard has looked great as a receiver and on Special Teams and he's a big athletic gunner like Janis was, and then Davis/Shepard as the return men. Not sure Lazard makes it through waivers. I think Shepard would. Malik Taylor has earned a spot on the practice squd IMO just based on pure athletic ability. An incredibly unproven WR'er core, but one that's big, physical, athletic, has a lot of ability with the ball in their hands and at least has one proven #1 who's probably one of the elite WR'ers in the NFL right now.
-
Yes, he is. He is unquestionably an elite QB. Heading into this season an argument could only be made for Mahomes and maybe 1 or 2 other QB's who are as gifted as him athletically. He struggled badly last year by his standards on deep balls. He missed more last year than he's probably missed in the next 3-4 worst years combined. But he was hobbled all year and threw the ball away. The year Nelson went out, there were times you had a seriously declining Jones as his top weapon and he did not get open, Rodgers put it in places nobody else could get it. I'm obviously biased, but I watch at least parts of 8 or 9 games a week, I don't usually use "the eye test" to argue for or against a guy, but sometimes it's just too obvious. How many QB's can make the play he made vs the Cowboys to put them in position to win a couple years ago? Rodgers has been the antithesis of Favre and the truth is, he might actually benefit from taking a few more chances than he has in the past, but he's just so accurate, so smart, his arm strength has not diminished. His ability to throw on the run is still elite. I don't think I'd even take Mahomes over Rodgers this season. Even long term the only two guys I'd consider trading him for are Mahomes(obviously) and Lawrence(appears to be such a lock even two years out).
-
This has been the line pretty much throughout the entire Favre AND Rodgers era. Not saying you're wrong, but it's time that changes. There's no reason they can't/shouldn't find a backup QB capable of winning a few games. Hoping the defense improves enough that this won't be the case anymore in the near future, if not this season. That said, I have no idea if the answer is in-house already or not. Agreed. I don't like the idea of just saying, "oh well, Rodgers is hurt," and throw up our hands and just write off the season or hope that a QB can maybe keep us close in games while he's out. We should have a VERY good defense this year and as of this moment, I believe we have the best offensive line we've had since we could roll out Clifton/Rivera/Flanigan or Winters/Tauscher. Bahktiari/Jenkins/Linsley/Turner/Bulaga is a really good offensive line. Both tackle spots and Center are elite. Jenkins two holding penalties tonight were absolute jokes. I went back and watched them 4 or 5 times each and he just blocked his guy. He didn't hold AT ALL. But he was amazing at doubling the NT and then getting to the second level. The running game still sucked....mostly because Williams just isn't patient enough yet, but if Turner is just solid at RG...we're loaded. On that note, it's become painfully obvious that Cole Madison needs a year on the practice squad. He's getting rag dolled pretty good out there. And I'm rooting for the guy. What he went through was awful. But he cannot play in the regular season. The reports about how de Beer looking good also appears to be more training camp fluff as he's just bad. He gets bull rushed far too easily. But Light has looked alright as far as I can see, Pankey might be the next guy who backs up for a year or two and then becomes a really solid starter. Anyway, my point, we've got a good D, a good running game, big targets at WR'er..something that's nice to have with a QB who doesn't have the accuracy Rodgers does. We have the type of roster that could get by with a veteran backup. Maybe Kizer's that guy. I'm pretty confident Boyle isn't yet, he could be with another year on the PS and I doubt he'd be picked up. But we should have gone after Bortles for 3-4 million or any number of serviceable backup's and we definitely need to draft someone who LeFleur likes, who fits his offense in the first two days. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to draft a QB like Fromm next year in what figures to be a pretty loaded draft class. 5 years of control, let him develop. Rodgers would be 41 before he'd be entering free agency. Or you go down the board and use a 2nd/3rd on a guy like Eason(another former UGA QB), KJ Costello, or an even a guy like Love from Utah.
-
Agreed. I'm also not someone who believes in "clubhouse presence" very much, but whatever value one can provide in that area, Cain certainly provides a great deal of it. Last year was close to a career year for him, so the poor luck makes the drop off look that much worse, but I think he'll rebound next year. He's still a really impresive CF'er and his contract isn't that bad. 16,17,18 over the next 3 years.

2020 Brewers Position Players
OnTheBlack replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Sorry for the long response. Short answer, yes, we should bring them back if we're not going to try and make an impact signing of a FA pitcher and that seems unlikely given the Yankees apparent interest in Cole and the Astros World Series Window being wiiiide open for the next several years(though that'd be two 30 million dollar pitchers in their rotation and a lot of guys who need to be paid or are already being paid and another potential ace already there). But I'd rather they use their resources on trying to build a dominant staff and I think going into next year they could just be one outside piece away and then hope some of the in-house options can rebound/distinguish themselves. -
2020 Brewers Position Players
OnTheBlack replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I don't think you need to intergrate Hiura into the 2020 team. He's already locked in as their 2nd basemen. Grisham's position is a bit more up in the air. I'd like to see if he could play CF at least as well as Gamel as that would allow him to play 50 or so games for Braun, 10-15 for Yelich and the same for Cain. Though at that point you'd be better off just moving Braun to 1st. I'm not really on board with giving Mouse a 2-3 year extension. I think we're seeing him regress back closer to his career norms. He's not at .328 OBP which is still about 20 points above his career average and has been slumping pretty significantly since the ASB and even a bit before it since he was at a season high of .281/.360/.588 .948 OPS. I guess in both scenario's, it matters what they'd plan on doing with the ~28 million in payroll that'd be gone. If that went to...lets say Gerrit Cole, I'd be fine with Pina behind the plate, a significant downgrade from Grandal offensively(though a nice upgrade offensively) and I guess just hope that Shaw bounces back. We need to get more out of our starting pitching and if we could throw out Cole and Woodruff, hope Burnes can figure it out but start with Houser and make Burnes earn his way back in and then even Davies and Anderson, I think we could be a better all around team. Especially since as of now our pen should look outstanding on paper. Knebel, Wahl, Hader, Houser(if not in the rotation), Peralta, D. Williams and then probably 8-10 more really talented arms that should be ready to start next year or be ready at some point into next year, Rasmussen, Sanchez, Daniel Brown could be a nice loogy potentially. We don't know how Zach Brown or someone like Webb develops. In short, I'd prefer in this one extremely rare situation the Brewers spend the money to try and go out and get that proven ace, especially while you have this window that's open with Yelich signed for 3 more years at a relatively cheap number. Would a lineup with Cain/Yelich/Hiura/Braun/Shaw/Grisham/Pina/Arcia be good enough offensively? That's a pretty big question mark and you'd really be counting on some unknowns in how big of a run producer Grisham would be, how Shaw could bounce back, how Cain could bounce back, if Arcia and Pina could hit well enough to be more than just glove 1st players? That'd be the risk in that particular plan. But at least in this scenario, you'd have some young talent, and you'd have guys like Gamel and Thames coming off the bench and at that point, it's a lot easier to trade for a rental bat than it is to trade for an impact starting pitcher. If they don't go after Cole...which we all know is unlikely, I hope they don't give a guy like Ryu a 3/45 type deal or go after one of the other older or more injury prone "aces" like Strusburg, Arietta, Quintana, etc..etc... More likely they'll try and bring Lyles back, maybe give Roark a deal for ~2/20 or even bring back another former Brewers we traded away in Odorizzi, though he'd be a pretty expensive signing. Offensively, this is a really bad year for position players and unless you're going to try and go and get a guy like Dedi Gregorius, I don't see a whole lot out there that makes a big difference. Rendon and Donaldson are FA's, but I'd rather spend that money and hope Shaw can rebound. So I think we try and run it back with Mouse, a couple bargain FA's pitchers and hope that we just get more out of our young players already in the system. -
Well, to be fair, "solid," isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. I did say that I thought Boyle made some really nice throws. But for instance, Kizer threw a couple balls into very tight window's early in the game, one to Kumerow, he made a really nice play to step up, avoid pressure and get the ball to Shepard on a play that Boyle likely doesn't make. But I don't know if Kizer can consistently hit that throw that Boyle made, that lazer to Lazard for 25-30 yards. Problem is, it looked like he locked in on him right away and you're usually going to at least have a single high safety giving help on the inside. But without getting to watch the coaches tape and just watching the video, it's a little hard to see if he's looking off a safety and then coming back to him. It's all pretty superficial at this point. I don't really have a strong opinion on either at this point. Kizer was a guy who looked like he would be a future potential 2nd day pick if not a 1st day pick had he stayed at ND longer. Then went to an absolute dumpster fire of a situation and I'm sure lost a lot of confidence. So I'm sure there's still a little biased baked into Kizer. He still has a whole lot of ability to be a really good NFL QB. But you say you like Boyle better, I wouldn't really argue with you. Particularly with LeFleur's quick hitting, Rhythm offense that relies on a quick release. Kizer's mobility isn't as much of a factor there and neither have shown great accuracy. We'll see. I'm sure Boyle will be given some run with the fringe starters/2nd unit and guys like Kumerow, St. Brown and others. Just observations from one pre-season game with an offense that is still very much a work in progress.

First Two Packers Games... Would You Take 1-1?
OnTheBlack replied to rickh150's topic in Other Sports
I have zero clue what Minnesota's going to do this year. Zimmer's definitely trending in the same direction of some really good defensive coaches who can't manage to get their offense to perform despite an abundance of talent(two legit #1 WR'ers in Thielen and Diggs, Cook, Rudolph, good backup RB's, a good QB). He kinda reminds me of Lovie Smith or Jeff Fischer. At least Rivera in Carolina signed a great offensive coordinator in Norv Turner. I think the Lions will be improved and they might be able to steal one from us, but I still think we end up 4-2 in the division and we could really be hitting our stride later in the year. Still not feeling great about the offense right out of the gate though. -
First Two Packers Games... Would You Take 1-1?
OnTheBlack replied to rickh150's topic in Other Sports
There's pretty good reason to think they're a sub .500 team. You should a regression to the norm with regard to the turnovers and they have a QB who can't throw the ball that well. They over-performed last year. Of course that Defense does have a lot of talent on it..particularly up front with Hicks, Goldman...you gotta think they get something out of Floyd with Mack playing on the other side. And then Roquan Smith should become an elite MLB'er in short order. But they took a hit in the secondary and I think they were overrated last year. Fuller is a really nice player, but he's not an elite lock down corner. If the Packers "fart" some games away, it'll be some ugly 20-17 games where the offense is real bad early in the season while the D is keeping them in games and the offense can't get anything going. I'm hoping that between Aaron Jones and Rodgers, he can will the offense along until they start to gel, but I could easily see the blowing games early. -
Of course, Vitale is more athletic, more versatile, younger. I simply meant it's pretty obvious how they plan on using the TE. I doubt we see a whole lot of I form, traditional 21 type of power football. Bohannon is another guy who is freakishly athletic. Ran a 4.6 40 at the veterans combine(4.88 at the rookie combine, so he's remade his body). If Vitale's nickname is muscles, not sure what his would be as he's just huge). If Vitale's calf ends up being a little more serious, it wouldn't surprise me if they went with Bohannon though. He's familiar with the offense and a pretty well established player in this league and while he's not as fluid as Vitale, he can do everything they want him to. So my point isn't really that he's gonna make the team, it's more about what they're gonna use the FB for and also it should be mentioned, Gute's already showing he's willing to go out and sign veterans and make more in-season moves. This isn't a huge signing or anything, but a couple guys go down and he's willing to bring in a guy who's started for 5 years in the league.
-
Bolton was lining up next to Blake Martinez today with the starters. Not sure if they actually like him more than Summers...I'd be surprised if that was the case based on what we saw in the pre-season game, Summers athletic ability and everything, but the coaches tape shows a lot we don't see. And Raven Greene was playing as that Safety playing in the Box. I didn't even notice Jones in the pre-season game and was really impressed how much bigger Greene looked. I'd seen how both he and Adam's had really improved their physique, but Greene looked big. Just wish Jones could put in that same level of effort. As for Sheldon, I hope they keep him..if not on the 54 man..which seems a bit unlikely, but on the PS at least. He really looks like he could become a pretty solid MLB'er. I'd love to see what Rodgers could do with a legitimate top 5 defense and it looks like they could actually have one over the next 3-4 years.
-
Maybe put J'Mon back on the list? Dude is really up and down - awesome or awful. I don't see how he can get back on that list. He's just looked so bad whenever we've seen him. Anyway, the Packers picking up Tommy Bohanon, an athletic FB who can catch the ball is pretty telling of how they plan on using the FB. Not so much as a iso blocker, but as a guy who can block, but has the speed and versatility to catch the ball and play special teams. Both Bohanon and Vitale are very athletic and versatile FB's.
-
Are the Packers incapable of signing a decent veteran quarterback that has had some success somewhere ever? Seems like a task force needs to be formed in GB to take on this seemingly impossible thing... I don't think many of the teams spending 30+ million on their starting Quarterbacks are wiling to go out and sign a guy like Ryan Fitzpatrick and spend even 5 million. And he signed for more than that, but he also signed on to at least have a chance to be the starter. Blake Bortles signed for cheap, maybe we could have gotten him while the Jags were still paying him, but we didn't.
-
Meh, it's fair to say, "look at what happened last year, anything can happen." Going several weeks without losing a baseball game, finishing up winning 10 of 11, going 20-6 in the final month and coming back from 5 games back, that's an outlier, not the norm. We COULD get that hot again, but I think it's more likely that the Cards or Cubs get hot this year than the Brewers do. Each team has better starting pitching, they each have more hitters performing below expectations. I sure hope we can get hot again, but I just don't think this year is our year. I do like how this team is build for the next 3 years, particularly if we can get some young pitching back on track and or developed and get them up to the big leagues. Maybe add a viable starting pitcher or really invest into a big time FA pitcher. But I don't see much reason to expect them to take off this year and if they do....I just don't see the talent there to beat a Scherzer/Strausburg/Corbin trio or a Buehler, Kershaw, Ryu trio. But baseball's funny, who knows.
-
Dexter Williams looked awful his first 3-4 carries, but after that, even with very little running room as you said, he looked like a pretty competent back. J'Mon Moore is gone. I don't see how you can keep a guy who just cannot catch the ball with his hands. He's absolutely terrible. You saw Kumerow when he was in tight coverage reach out and snatch the ball with his hands. If he tries to catch that first pass with his body, it's gonna be broken up. Moore let that potential TD catch hit him in the shoulder pad waiting for it to get in on his body, he couldn't bring in a couple others and then FINALLY when he did make that catch, it wasn't even clean. He bobbled it. I thought there were SOO many guys on defense who played well. Ty Summers and Bolton look like some of the Badger LB'ers we've had(except Summers can fly). Like Boreland and Cinchy or Connelly. Smart, athletic, a little undersized, but they play far more physically than their respective sizes suggest. Summers flew around all game long and there were a few times where I was pretty surprised to see how much thump he had when he came up and filled the hole, standing some of the Texans backs up and finishing through them. Defensive front, Gary was going against a really talented 2nd round pick for much of the night, but he has an explosive first step and looks so much more fluid than I though he'd look. I was thinking a guy who played a 5/7 technique at Michigan a times would look a little bit more like Nick Perry for instance, a little stiff, but good straight line speed. Didn't get to see him drop in coverage much and I'd like to as he's going to have to in the NFL, but there's plenty of time for that. On the DL, Simon looked good at times, really stacking blockers, Looney showed a little more ability to play in the backfield than I think most people would have thought. Not a great night overall by the secondary. That tends to happen when you're playing without any of your starters, but a few guys did flash. Raven Green made a Charles Woodson/Peppers-esque play with that strip. They talked about how much bigger he looked coming back from last year. That's no joke. He looked a LOT bigger than I remember him, and he's playing more aggressive. Hollman's coverage was tight. Sullivan looked good, but also played too far off at times. Jamerson looked good at times and it looks like he's got a much better shot at making the roster since they're playing him both at safety and at corner. He has the athletic ability to play both...but he wasn't physical enough coming up. The most impressive young guys to me where Summers, Kingsley Keke who looks like he's gotta be back over 300 pounds after he was asked to lose weight at A&M, but spent a lot of time in the Texans backfield. And then, this guy has next to no chance to make the Packers 54 man roster, but that Brady Sheldon is a really interesting prospect. He ran a 4.52 40...that would have been the fastest 40 at the combine, but Peppers was classified as a LB'er even though he was going to play safety in the NFL. He's 6'5, long, he can rush the passer a little bit, but he was in position to make some plays when they moved him inside at MLB'er. Put him on the practice squad and he might be able to become a nice, versatile player at MLB'er. On offense, I thought all the WR'ers looked pretty good save for Moore. Tonyan made a really athletic catch. Though Kizer's gonna get some receivers hurt with how high he throws the ball over the middle. Lazard looked good, Kumerow looked awesome, Dexter Williams showed pretty well after the bit of a rough start. There were SOO many guys who shows up at times, so many young players who played well. That converted WR'er from Colorado Ento looks like he might be able to develop. The defense, which is obviously gonna be vanilla in the pre-season and we didn't see a single starter as far as I know(Oren Burks I guess, but I think Ty Summers may very well push him for that 2nd LB'er spot). I wish I could have seen Josh Jones. Is he hurt....did he play and was he just that irrelevant that I missed him? You'd think he'd be in there playing safety, moving up and playing as the nickel backer...etc...but he's clearly not a guy who's too valuable to play and risk injury, so is he so far down on the depth chart that they're not even going to both throwing him out there? Are they just holding him until the final cuts so that they can say they didn't cave to his demands and simply cut him because he wasn't good enough?
-
Kizer looked pretty solid though. He adds another element with his legs and his night may have looked better if not for...whoever it was slipping out of his cut(I thought it was Moore). That could have led to a more productive night. But Boyle throws a much better ball. He still needs to put a little more finesse on some of his throws. His "fade" to Lazard wasn't a bad throw by any means, but he threw a bullet. Give the 6'5 220 WR'er go up and get it. Boyle's still, IMO, fighting an uphill battle to win the backup job, but you have to wonder if Kizer's ever going to be able to take that next step. You see SO many young QB's ruined because they come in and start for a bad team right out of the gate, don't get the coaching and then they find themselves constantly in new offenses. Didn't they say this was his 5th in 5 seasons? 3 in the NFL, and 2 in his last two years at ND? I always hope they go with just 2 QB's instead of 3, but this year they might have to go with 3 again this year. The only way I could see them going with 2 is if they believe that Boyle could clear waivers. Most teams have their QB situation figured out and he's still pretty raw, so you might be able to get him through waivers and onto your practice squad.

When you're a star player on a college football team, every campus is a small town. Especially when it comes to a topic like this. There's going to be a vocal minority who believes he got away with something regardless of the jury's finding.

First Two Packers Games... Would You Take 1-1?
OnTheBlack replied to rickh150's topic in Other Sports
@Chicago-Packers will likely be 4-5 point underdogs in this one. Vs Minnesota, I'd guess we're probably 2 point favorites. That'd be a tough call, but I'd rather play them out. I know the offense will struggle early on and we're playing two loaded and really deep defenses, but I think our defense is going to come out with it's hair on fire playing aggressive and really well also. Minnesota with their roster should be probably among the 3-4 favorites in the NFC, but it's just tough to trust them. But they have everything you could need except for that OL and they've improved that quite a bit. All-Pro caliber players at every level of the D, arguably the best WR'er duo in the NFL, a dynamic back in Cook that's healthy. But Cousins has played well without great talent and he played decent with it last year. I just don't trust him. Cousin just feels like a 9-7 type QB, even with this roster. -
I think your two reasons are really just 1. I don't think he's gonna provide any cheap help for them. I think Giannis is just gonna be thrilled having his brother with him. But, this is apparently all moot. I was listening to Jim Rome today on the radio(I don't know why, I never listen to his show and he had someone filling in for him today, but not even a little bit of a fan) but I learned two things that were REALLY interesting. A-Tom Brady's new contract means that he's going to be playing elsewhere next year, probably in Oakland because he happens to be from California. And that would be the Pats doing if they "only" go 12-4 and don't win a Super Bowl. The Pats would be the ones who'd force out Tom Brady because his extension doesn't have guaranteed money. B-Giannis is probably going to sign with the Raptors. Why? It's an international city. This guy also conceded he'd never met either person or had no contacts close to either person, but still feels comfortable stating these things as matter of factually as one would say...the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas. Most of this post would have been better served in the "what's bugging you" category, but I find it hilarious that
