  1. Villone, who did have a long career as a lefty although not with the Brewers, and Florie were very mediocre pitchers . Pick off the waiver wire types. The Brewers though thought were getting a young player just about to break out in Newfield who was the 6th pick in the 1990 player draft. But the injuries that ended his career were already plaguing him. Whoever okayed this trade really screwed the Brewers.
  2. Seigler began as a catcher and still occasionally does for Nashville. Also can throw with either arm. Mainly has played 2ndbase the last two years. 3rdbase is a new position for him but he's an athletic type guy. 3rd might be his spot. And a former 1st round pick. He's having easily his best season at the plate this year. Maybe finally putting it all together?
  3. The Brewers traded two outstanding pitchers for what has amounted to Ortiz and Durbin, Mendoza Line hitters. Creating holes at ss and 3b besides the damage to the pitching staff. Of course they are a sinking team. Not so much other division teams are rising.
  4. Bring him back as Bernie Brewer's pinch slider down the chute after Brewer HR's when Bernie isn't feeling well. The Brewers already have enough subpar hitters at first base.
  5. I already knew the story of the Sundown Kid but you added a few details I didn't know. Well written by you! A sad story of mental illness that at the time no one understood, so sadly Thomas got no help.
  6. Even though he was an "iron man" with the Brewers I recall the fear was because he was so large that injuries would cut his career short which proved to be the case. So the Brewers were wise not to get stuck with that huge contract. But he sure was a difference maker with the Brewers and his couple of years with the Tigers. He's still only 38 years old.
  7. Sal Bando might have been the worst GM in major league history. Gotta be in the top 10. Letting Molitor walk was just the tip of the iceberg for Bando. But he was a decent player. We still have that. (?)
  8. As a little kid at this time I was excited for getting a Baltimore Oriole player as they were the top team. I just thought at the time the best teams always had the best players, even the backups like May. Also thought this about Curt Motton when the Brewers got him a couple of seasons later. I found out differently then! Davey May though was a very dependable player and the Brewers could count on him game in and game out. And he "helped" get Hank Aaron back in Milwaukee!
  9. Defensive shifts are all about teams trying to gain an advantage to win. Banning them is like banning certain plays in football such as fake punts or onside kicks, two point conversions, etc. that are designed to win the game. Baseball is now all about numbers for fantasy leagues. Not winning.
  10. He's a nine year minor leaguer with a career BA of about .240. Thats in the minor leagues. Has struck out in 49% of his MLB plate appearances. Talk about long shots!

  12. Billy Joe stole his only base pinchrunning for another 1st base bust and a guy even slower than him, Joey Meyer, on July 5th 1988 in Kansas City.
  13. I remember Hegan as a guy that was a fundamentally sound player. A real pro. A slick fielder at first base who really just had the 70 season as a regular player. He was athletic enough to play outfield which is how he was mainly used in his year in Seattle appearing mostly in rightfield, who used Don Mincher primarily at 1st base. But he had a career that lasted 13 seasons. Not bad!
