  1. I would assume all message boards and many blogs have slowed down with Twitter's emergence. People find it easier to post throwaway crap than to think out a post or reply. I can't say I've noticed a slowdown, but Twitter is so darn fast, I check that out all the time. BF.net is more of a couple times a day thing.
  2. That's written badly. They'll keep several players in extended spring for Helena/AZ. They make it sound like they'll release about 40 guys, but probably only 15-20, plus pick a few guys up as well.
  3. Options? I don't see him passing through waivers regardless, power is mighty hard to find. I think he's a good fielder too, isn't he?
  4. I haven't seen de la Cruz mentioned at all, though he does have velocity, if he ever appears on the scene, ikt'll probably be in the 'pen, as he's short. I do like Estrada, if he's healthy, and McClendon is my sleeper. Right now, it looks like we might well be talking about a single start, with them using Rogers/Rivas/Peralta (whoever is pitching the best) for the two later in April. Maybe a team will make this easy by releasing a hard throwing swingman with an option left in the next couple weeks.
  5. I have a reader looking to rent a suite at Miller Park for a family get together, for a Saturday game in August. He does not like the location of the suites available for rent, as they are way down the RF line. Anyone know of a way to contact suite holders and find a match? He says he's never seen suite tickets on Stub Hub, though I wonder if they'd be labeled "club." Any ideas, let me know.
  6. Depth. Nieves is a solid catch and throw guy. I wish we were 3 deep at every spot.
  7. I think Doug will recommend Kottaras, so someone would have to beat him out.
  8. The idea of delaying a start so a better pitcher can pitch the home opener is just goofy. It's one of 162, or one of 81.
  9. Almonte is not an everyday 2B/SS. However, he could play there for a day or two if needed, if an injury occurs, takes a while to get someone to Miami if Nashville is in Tacoma, or so on. Other than Counsell, who'd be the next SS...I'd guess McGehee or Weeks...oof.
  10. Almonte can play any position besides C and CF. Katin can play LF/RF. Cruz can't hit a lick, and can only play 2B/SS, what Counsell can do as well. Luis' skills are limited and duplicated.
  11. Scooter is my #1 propect, so I have him breaking out to others. I like Cam Garfield to improve a lot, he was very young for Appleton last year.
  12. Sending Dickerson to AAA allows them to keep both he and Boggs, so that makes perfect sense to me. Gamel and Dickerson in AAA allows you to keep two guys up that are out of options.
  13. I'd have to agree with Almonte, though it's Erik, or maybe Erick. Cruz can't hit a lick, and Almonte's RH bat, versatility, and ability to go to RF makes him the favorite in my eye, unless Farris shows he can play SS/3B. Also, Almonte is a veteran clubhouse guy, more than likely signed in part to a AAA deal because of this. Not to mention, as a bonus, he's a bench guy, does not need to play every day to develop, and he'll pass through waivers if they need to send him down. Who did the Crew have a few years ago that had never played in the bigs despite being older, was that Joe Dillon? Almonte reminds you a bit of Joe, has taken walks in the minors, goes the other way a lot. Almonte has played in the majors, but it's been so long ago, it's almost like he never did.
  14. Parra would be claimed by a dozen teams, as would any lefty who throws that hard, never mind has a breaking ball.
  15. He's on the 40, so the Crew thinks he is likely to at least be a reserve. If he can hit .320/.375 in the majors, and he's that good behind the plate, he'll have a long career. Have to see if his '10 line was a fluke.
  16. A 2 and a 3 are basically the same thing. The 6/7 seed you play may not be tougher or easier, as a #6 may be slumping or a #7 may have won 10 in a row.
  17. Sssshhh. Why tennis and golf make their fans be quiet are always beyond me.
  18. I still think the saddest thing ever is people who never go to the game. A close second, people who go to the parking lot and don't even have tickets. That's what decks and your TV are for.
  19. The NBA and NHL both average in the low 17K's. MLS averaged 16675 last year...and if you take out the two teams that play in tiny stadiums, they averaged 17629. Granted, they play a lot more basketball and hockey games, but that's still a surprise. The MLS is one of the quieter success stories in sports in the last couple decades. It's modest, but compared to the fact pro outdoor soccer did not exist a while back (except for a few minor leagues), it's impressive.
  20. The MLS markets itself very well, using kid's soccer, various sponsorships, and so on. I said a year or so ago I expect the MLS to average more than the NBA or NHL in a few years, when they get rid of the 2-3 tiny stadiums they've been stuck with (KC played in a ballpark with like 8500 capacity). Of course, there's far fewer MLS contests, but that will still be impressive. If the Cosmos arrive per planned, that might be the time.
  21. Get it early and save $20-40. I think it's $149 or so.
  22. Indoor soccer is kind of a goofy sport, like arena football. And using announced attendance for one and whatever you feel like saying for another is wrong in a thousand ways. The Bucks average almost 4x the Ads, and 2x "lately". Enough said.
  23. You used to be able to put in another zip code to get around the blackout, but I hear they know use your billing zip code on your credit card. That said, get an out of stater to put it on their card and reimburse them, it might work. If not...change it back to yours, no harm in trying. I'd go with Extra Innings easily if it was a choice, you're always going to have internet issues that keep you from enjoying a game or three.
  24. The Admirals have been drawing more than the Bucks lately.Painfully untrue. From the JS. << the Admirals have drawn an average of 4,527 fans through 19 games at the Bradley Center. That's a decrease of 6.5% from last year.>>> Needless to say, that's as incorrect a statement as one can make. No idea what the Bucks are averaging, but it's in the 14-16K range. As I said, I think many people forget soccer is just one game a week, so it's a couple home games a month, and almost entirely on weekends. Comparing MLS to the NHL or NBA is silly, there is none. 15-17 home games, plus maybe an international "friendly" in a soccer specific 20K stadium MLS will insist on, is barely 10% of the Brewers' total attendance. At most, it would affect Crew's tickets sold by 2-4%.
  25. The 20th MLS team is expected to be the New York Cosmos, as the prospective owner has already bought the team name, and it's what the commish wants.
