  1. In today's legal landscape, alcohol in the workplace is rare, at best. The last retailer I worked for banned any company sponsored get togethers at places that serve alcohol...no bowling nights, no holiday dinners at a nice restaurant with a bar attached. At one store, someone brought in a regional beer they had bought on vacation for another person who liked microbrews...dismissed on the spot. I "looked the other way" when a gal brought several friends a bottle of "rice wine" bought on a church mission trip somewhere. The legal ramifications are unlimited. Like many traditions, change was likely overdue.
  2. I hope the Brewers don't use spring stats to decide who goes where. That's about as meaningless as stats can be, a tiny sample with huge disparity in competition. One day, one player might face an ace from the bigs, the next, his competitor might face a kid from A ball.
  3. I wish I could see WMLW. I watched on FSW's version on alternate Charter, and it was the same as always.
  4. $4 for club or loge beats 75 cents for terrace anyday.
  5. I have no use for it either, especially since recaps and the box score are available minutes after the game. Of course, as a blogger and online poker player, I'm as nerdy as it gets.
  6. If they bring in a guy to use with Gamel, it can be a RH hitter, and one that can play elsewhere, 3B/LF/RF/C. A good defensive 1B is dandy, but one that hits like a SS is filler.
  7. Morris would be still in A ball if he wasn't such a high pick. He should have dominated that level, and he got out 70% of the time. And yes, it's a fact top picks and uber-prospects like Lawrie get pushed faster, due to the money invested in them. Organizational soldiers and roster filler have to prove themselves more. Life ain't fair, but if you're good enough, you'll make it. There's 30 teams out there, one will find you.
  8. Silva will likely catch on eventually, though I would not expect much less than a 5 ERA and 5 innings a start. He's better than a guy like Dillard.
  9. Ishikawa can only play 1B and gets out 68% of the time. He's a dime a dozen good defensive 1B, who has no use on a team that has Prince playing 160 games.
  10. Sportservice makes the money, or the vast majority of it. I assume the Crew gets a cut, or a % plus what SS pays for the concession rights. I'm sure it's minimal compared to ticket revenue.
  11. One of the Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives was filmed there. A burger place was a family run operation with several Swedish looking daughters. They have a fry sauce that is half ketchup, half mayo...Guy points out that's Thousand Island to the rest of us. One of my favorite Insomniacs was there too, as Dave tried to rip on the LDS's for standing in line at 2AM ordering their pizza and Sprites...and they all agreed with him, destroying the entire bit.
  12. Fokudome had a 800+ OPS last year, and hits RHP very nicely. He deserves to play. The cubs simply have too many quality OF's, and a contract they cannot move.
  13. Fill stadiums? Who would they play? And, the MLB season is about to begin, so no exhibitions allowed.
  14. He's a solid SP, probably projects to a sub 4 ERA in the NL. As Briggs pointed out, he's not what the Brewers are looking for, but he's a solid MLB SP, and still at his peak.
  15. My son is on spring break that week, so I'm off Thurs/Fri.
  16. With Jeter getting looks elsewhere, I would love to see Pearl back at UWM. I have no idea how serious his violations were, except that they sure don't sound serious, extra phone calls, a cookout at his house (recruits can visit school but not home). Pearl was a breath of fresh air. With so many rules and so many oversights and oopses, it's tough to care about piddly stuff. Jeter is supposedly the top choice at Bradley...is that really more prestigious than UWM? I think Bradley might be Missouri Valley, but that's upgrading from a Honda to a Toyota.
  17. Branyan is not really an OF at this stage, or a 3B. I'd love to see him as a PH, but that ship has sailed.
  18. Reyes is on the 40 man, and PTBNL cannot be on the 40 man, so that would not work, without another move first at least. Bush makes as much sense as anyone. I've always liked him in a long relief role, but he made too much and was too effective as a SP to be considered.
  19. It takes 5 years to transition from club to D1. Club is just a bunch of guys having fun, D1 is top o' the line.
  20. I think they just bought an annuity with what money they owed him.
  21. Bo's ten year record is so phenomenal, any doubters are just absurd. That said, right or wrong, people remember those tourney games. If Pellen hits a couple more 3's, we're talking about next season.
  22. They'll be some guys a lot like Marco Estrada that are out of options...some AAA success, not real hard throwers. Of course, the Crew has Estrada already.
  23. Most players peak right around 27, so Carlos should continue to get a little better. Given his natural gifts and how he was rushed by the Mets/Twins, he would seem to be as logical a breakout candidate as anyone. A 3-5% improvement should probably be expected, but that'll only bump him up to about .310/.360. .325/.375 is perhaps a sensible goal that, paired with his defense, would make him an above average option for a decade.
  24. [quote author=PeaveyFury wrote: [/b]Nice, easy win for the Badgers against an opponent that was largely predicted to win this game. Great 2nd half all around. The Badgers were favored and were probably picked by 80% of those who made out a bracket. Belmont was a trendy pick for an upset, though I'm shocked Princeton wasn't with their history of upsets.
  25. Adam said they mentioned Cruz "again" as well. I guess I missed the prior mention.
