  1. I think it's MLB during season, AL/NL offseason. Or maybe not.
  2. With rogers' injury history, he's been a relief prospect for several years.
  3. I think Dillard being able to go multiple innings was the big thing in his favor. He has been very good versus RH hitters, but pretty mediocre overall, especially of late. He's not really a prospect, so his options are a bonus, but likely not a deciding factor.
  4. Actually, the #8 batter often has a red light, as you want the pitcher's spot to end the frame with two outs, as you do not want the pitcher leading off.
  5. I love him, I too would just like to run that fast for a day. He still might turn into an above average CF, as his defense makes him average now. I've never seen a better CF, and I watched Torii Hunter as a young man in the Dome. Any improvement on offense at all, maybe up to .325/.400, makes him an excellent option.
  6. Counsell plays plus defense at 3 spots, bats LH, and has a solid OBP. I doubt if there are 5 utility IF's in the game that fit that description.
  7. Marcum seems thrilled to be in the Midwest. He might take less to stay in MIL rather than requiring a premium.
  8. He's 24 and still in low A? Needless to say, he's not regarded as more than roster filler.
  9. They are still +5 in UZR on the season. They are -3 in DRS. That puts them either above average or right about average. The irony to me is simple...people always say to use the metrics, you can't trust "what you see"...but this year, when the metrics do not give the desired response, it's one excuse after another. The defense was average last season, and it's average this year. The best defender is Gomez, who is roundly criticized for not being an average offensive player...and around we go. You won't see changes made because of average defense. Saying it's below that over and over doesn't make it so.
  10. I never fly, but Southwest offers that $49 anywhere deal often enough that the wife and I take notice. I like Southwest just because they don't suck up...their reality show years ago showed them telling customers they were out of luck numerous times, with little sympathy.
  11. People who make fun of illnesses/maladies that kill? Stay classy. Many people that have sleeping disorders are overweight. Braddock's is related to his anxiety disorder, probably just a "racing mind" type of thing. As stated, a body needs sleep, here are far more car accidents the day the clocks are turned ahead than normal. I worked 80 hours a week for a couple years, and your body does adjust, but you're still drowsy, find it harder to concentrate, and the like. Tough to be a world class athlete in that state, to say the least. They have special forces do varieties of puzzles and the like after being up for 36+ hours, they learn how to "fight through fatigue," as you can't wait to shoot OBL because you are tired. However, for most folks, it's easier just to get enough sleep.
  12. If they do not have a split contract, they get their major league salary. For example, Braun still has options, if he would go down, he'd still get whatever his guarantee was.
  13. Arm is incredibly weak, Juan Pierre-like. On a line drive one hopper to LF last year, he came up firing, releasing the ball just as the runner rounded 3B. His throw almost floated in, it one-hopped the cut-off man. He'll have to hit like a machine to make the bigs, but the bat will play. If he continues to hit .400/.500, he'll make it. Odds are, he will not.
  14. Someone said they were written by a comedy writer, but yes, they were funny. Link, and thanks for the plug Trwi7.
  15. Caufield is 27 and has a 700 OPS in AA. That isn't impressive if he plays SS or C, never mind OF.
  16. The playoffs at AAA often interfere with callups anyway. We'll let Omaha play 'til mid-Sept.
  17. So, did he tip pitches in the 1st, quit for several innings, and then start again the other day. His issue is control, his pitches are often right down the middle, and guys like Votto destroy them. Velocity is almost the same as last year, but as Macha said, "Home runs are almost always off terrible pitches."
  18. 22 year-olds improve, almost without exception. So do 24 year-olds. Why some fail to see this, I'm not sure. We see this in the NBA all the time, team drafts guy at 20, gives up on him at 23. Player develops into what everyone thought he would be at 25/26.
  19. Go to your local Charter office, they will take care of it and give you a better deal. I bargained for 30 minutes on the phone, got a decent deal, and my wife stopped by the office to pick up a DVR box...they laughed at the phone people and knocked $20 a month off. Said they could give us every single premium channel if she wanted to pay what I agreed to...she declined and took the savings.
  20. I assume there's plenty of seats available at game time, no need to buy ahead.
  21. If it only hurts when you play softball, I can't believe it's much more serious than tennis elbow. People with serious injuries, like rotator cuff tears, can't even shampoo their own hair.
  22. The average SS had a .317 OBP last year. SS's do not hit like other players, neither do catchers. Other than the fact many fail to understand offensive production varies by position, Yuni has been near his career numbers, and despite grandeur illusions of suckiness, has been plenty passable in the field. Considering the black hole that would exist if Yuni got hurt, he might be one of the more valuable players, outside of the top 3-5 guys.
  23. Salome would probably happily suck the dew off the grass each morning if it meant a job in MLB. If you pitch like Greinke, teams will put up with "stuff." Otherwise, abandoning your team and then saying you want to play OF is heavily frowned upon.
  24. They usually are not throwing over to pick off anyone, just to keep the runner a step closer, in case of a force, DP, or a play at 3B or home. Many folks, on their 3rd beer or in a hurry to get home, have no idea.
  25. He just changed this year, per coaching staff. It allows him to not be jumping toward 2B to cover that space.
