  1. Caple is anti-Milwaukee due to Bud. His stuff reads as pure fiction.
  2. What LouisEly said. Moves like that have to be made when a guy sucks and is out of options...DLR was traded in the same circumstance. If you're in the success cycle at a point other than contention, you can afford to be patient, but when you are contending, you are limited to dealing away ceiling or watching a guy lose games until he rights the ship. Not really a whole lot you can do other than look for teams in this circumstance each year.
  3. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1112099609.png We get our connection from Iron Mountain, MI?
  4. I do think they'll retire his number when he makes the Hall. Fingers was in MIL how long?
  5. One look at the offense he has put together tells you why is in trouble. Fans hate losing 3-1 and 2-0 a great deal, and he does not seem to want to add any bats at all.
  6. I've seen several studies that drug test the homeless and 75-80% are usually positive for drugs/alcohol. Most have a problem, and for many, it's substance abuse. Of the other 20%+, I'd guess most are mentally unbalanced.
  7. Businesses do not have to pay their share of SS taxes until they are "official," and those statements being released makes them official. In a large corporation, that is millions of dollars, even in a small business, it's several thousand.
  8. I just said the other day I wish there was a game show for guessing whether the shot beat the buzzer. I'm almost never wrong, even when the announcers say it the other way. Yet, I've seen the replay of the Duke/Butler game many times, and I'm still not sure if that shot left his hand in time.
  9. Aracko, we recently refinanced through Quicken, and they were just incredibly efficient and quick. Try others, but make sure you give them a shot. Also, don't be ashamed to ask a family member or friend for help, if $10K cash makes a difference. Many folks would love to get 5% interest in today's market.
  10. It's likely the 2nd utility IF will also bat RH as well.
  11. He's a great min or league signing for anyone. He'll bide his time and look for AB's.
  12. Too many DH's now in the AL, one or two will not find a job. However, Branyan may wait to see if an injury occurs, or he might fit in as a reserve somewhere at 3-4 spots and the DH spot.
  13. I assume the $4M is deferred until at least 2013, when the current deal is over. Otherwise it would not really be deferred, it'd just be less in '10, more in '11.
  14. Having a 6th SP who can put up a 4.75-5 ERA is far better than the replacement level 5.50 guys. Over the course of 162, the average team will get about 130 starts from their top 5, leaving about 30 starts for others. Rogers is a nice 6/7 SP, but his injury concerns have me wishing for at least one solid guy for depth, in addition to Rivas and the like. Washburn, or a guy like John Maine, with an opt-out of early June, would leave me feeling far better.
  15. Cain is a can't miss as far as he isn't that bad now, just like Escobar, plus defense, below average, but plenty serviceable today, with ceiling. That's what those who dislike the Greinke trade for KC don't get, they got a nice floor, two up the middle solid defense guys that should get better.
  16. Counsell is one of the best utility infielders in the game. Dickerson is a solid 4th OF, especially when one takes into account his near minimum salary. No backup C is going to hit. Hinske would have fit in nicely, without a doubt. However, still plenty of time to add a guy like him. Inglett had an outstanding '10, and was far from a heralded signing. Few 5th OF's hit a whole lot, though Boggs has raked at AAA and plays all 3 spots in the field.
  17. I'm at $82Mish, but no one knows what Prince and Rickie will end up playing for. http://albethke.blogspot....oster-gallardo-wolf.html
  18. McClendon has options. To keep him and another RP, all you have to do is send Mike to AAA.
  19. If Fuentes was available for 1y/$3-4M, Doug would be on him. No way will Doug give him market value. Heyman is famous for compiling lists of every team who has contacted a guy.
  20. Saito and Braddock both pitched consecutive days last year. They may need to be monitored a bit, but they are far from being babied.
  21. I see Scooter in AA, if not in April, by June/July. They're going to be aggressive with him now that Lawrie is gone, and that he's old for his experience. He'll move quick at 2B. Garfield hit the ball hard every AB I saw last year. He has a short swing and looks good behind the plate (I don't think it'd be a stretch to say he looked better than Lucroy did when he first came up). If they do not make the team, I'd look for Kintzler and McClendon to be in the AAA rotation.
  22. A client told me today that when their church has a potluck, they have to be called "angel eggs." Regardless, they sure are popular. Even the plain ones are really good.
  23. Rogers will probably be penciled into the #6/7 mix. I'd expect at least one more signing, though it could be of the minor league variety. Heck, nothing wrong with Washburn on a minor league deal with an opt-out in June. John Maine and Brian Bannister are two FA's who have been connected to MIL rumors in the past. Other guys who had some success as SP's that might have to take a minor league contract? Bruce Chen, Rodrigo Lopez, Ian Snell, Elmer Dessens. Aaron Heilman wants to start, but is looked at as a reliever. Dustin Nippert and Zach Miner are possibilities as well.
  24. My favorite remains when the NYU reporter writes Jerry and George were gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). "I've been outed, I've never even been in" is my favorite double meaning phrase of all time.
  25. Loe was properly used last year mostly vs. RH's as well. He's simply below average vs LH's, why he has not had much success as a SP. I think Doug will add another RHP with some velocity when the price gets down to 1y/$1.5M for veteran relief help. Since Kintzler and McClendon have options, they'll set them up to use them and be depth at AAA.
