  1. Good call. He should've stayed in. Results wouldn't have been worse. Or we could have put in hughes or blazek after the rupp walk. Apparently hader and blazek are newer so they have to earn their way past drake scahill and torres. Story of the week.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/brewers-vs-phillies/2017/07/22/491553#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=play-by-play,game=491553 There are years worth of data and many studies that pretty much prove that except for some very limited situations (not this one), sac bunting is dumb. Your odds of scoring a single run with a man on 3rd and 1 out is minisculy better, if better at all, than with a runner on 2nd and nobody out. Your odds of scoring multiple runs are diminished. All for a play that even has to be executed first before getting the opportunity, and execution rates have also gone down over the years. This isn't an emotional reaction based on the game. Its fairly scientific. Outs are just too precious to give away freely. Our runner on 2nd is slow. Our 3rd base coach is ed sedar. I think that shatters your analytics. Sorry.
  3. Yeah that's exactly right. Good sharp outing for corey... thank god the bleeding stopped for a night.
  4. Actually it was a great idea. Terrible execution. No, it really wasn't . Even if you execute well, which is clearly no certainty, you've got Shaw coming up who is a great hitter but definitely a high risk of a K with a man on 3rd and 1 out. Much rather take 3 chances with a man RISP than 2 with a man on 3rd IF you execute . And don't play for 1 run the way this pen has gone. If knebel cant close a 1 run lead you deserve to lose.... you get the lead back... you dont manage like its hopeless unless you have a big lead.
  5. Same result if the bunt worked and they walked shaw... and it worked out just fine
  6. Hey CC time to go to the guy you should have put in after drake walked rupp. Blazek is available.
  7. Correct briggs... counsell has been a huge part of this losing streak... you give him 3 batters there if the first 2 are outs... 2 otherwise. How do we trust drake vs 4 straight rh or switch over blazek? How do we hand 1 run games to scahill webb torres scahill.
  8. Because drake is only supposed to face lefties. Of coarse we leave him out there 4 batters to long with blazek hughes barnes to turn to.
  9. Its a shame this is a 4 game losing streak... while the cubs fended off 2 collapses in their last 6... we've made stupid decisions that cost us at least 2 of these close ones.
  10. Sogard started his rehab. He wont be as great as hes been at the plate but soon we get his glove back and his scrappy quality ABs.
  11. Only trade prospects who are blocked and running out of protection (40 man is getting tighter) for small filler additions... or stand pat. Start making good in game decisions instead of reacting to decisions of previous days (pull gatza didnt work... leave suter guerra in didnt work). Stop throwing scahill in high leverage innings. Enjoy the fact that arcia shaw santana nelson anderson knebel and barnes are better than any of us could have hoped for at this point. Enjoy the fact that we have just started to see hader... are waiting on woodruff... and burnes is insane. Understand our biggest hole in our current lineup has 2 of our better most developed prospects on the horizon. Root for wins... remember its not supposed to be tangible til 2019.
  12. And when I thought I was the negative one... To say this team isn't talented and that the analytics are proving true is utter nonsense. The same dudes who made those projections have come out to explain how they got it wrong. Nelson spent a full year revamping mechanics... no one thought he was a legit 2/3 going in... the change in mechanics having this effect was not projectable. Arcia who has a bad bat has had a great approach which we've seen morph in his first full season and has been hitting over 300 for a long stretch here. You can't accurately project the development of a 22 year old. Santana is a kid too. There was promise in some of his numbers but injuries held him back last year and he's clearly on the up swing... happening faster than you could reasonably project. When you cry defense he's going to end up a LF who carries the stick required there... again 24. Shaw becoming mentally stronger... Anderson making a streak of last season look more like a reality. Thames being an adam dunn like ops monster who also Ks a ton. Sogard lol can't project utter statistical nonsense. Same way you can't project a complete and utter collapse from villar... not repeat sure... but this no. This team hasnt lost 4 straight because projections are catching up... they didnt lose 4 because they aren't talented... there's a lot more talent here than anyone realistically could have imagined or projected. They lost 4 straight because of a bad pitching decision sunday... a flare and zero timely hitting monday... umps a bad steal attempt decision and a late hook tuesday... and a continued lack of timely hitting tonight mixed with a couple flares from a team that has been red hot. 4 L... a few stupid decisions... a few bad calls... a few flares that hit dirt by a team thats hot vs a team thats grinding. Baseball is a fickle game but don't give me this BS about being devoid of talent and analytics. The analytics people already waived the white flag and made retractions on a number of the misses they made in regards to this roster. You want to talk about davies guerra garza and our patchwork bullpen lacking talent... go ahead. The rest... yes chicken little the sky is falling but not for the reasons you foretold.
  13. I'd have handed him the ball immediately after phillips put mke up 2-1 sunday. On monday I would have brought in anyone but scahill or hader with the bases loaded. I dont understand the 1 ip stuff since the break. I figured he'd get 2-3 ip looks to be a "close game" weapon/bp arm saver. Like a long man who pitches in non blowout mop/up situations. In case of a rain delay or short pen staff day... break out hader.
  14. Where are these metrics because I simply find this hard to believe. Judge tagged him... bell tagged him and a flare drove that run in. That's his 2. Erratic clearly... he has to be very close to 20 pitches per inning but not dominating? I do not remember a lot of loud outs. All stats that include walks will look overly bad but I dont believe his era is/was scahill lucky. The walks and high ab pitch count keeps him from rotation consideration currently... but the yankees looked absolutely baffled. So bell judge... who else hit him in a way that should/would have produced runs?
  15. PS hate umps. Reviewing hbp but not a runner being hit is insane. Nuance in the catcher pitcher game is code for fooling the moron behind the plate. Those people also like basketball flops andsoccer dives. Glad Guerra built off his nyy 3 inning start where he staved off multiple errors. A shame it went off the rails and everyone knew before CC.
  16. Sunday: I pulled garza to be aggressive... then pitched the worst dude in my bullpen with 4 innings of hader hughes drake a real option. Torres is even better. 1 run game oh well. Very next night this masochist puts the same trash in with the bases loaded and lucks out. Tonight 5 straight hits... runs perez... genius. Pina single following out 2. If you see broxton as a pitcher at the plate dont play him. Guerra losing his stuff... harrison took him to tge warning track last time... hughes is your guy right there for 1.1. Barnes knebel win. I dont want to hear how this guy is a great manager... his in game management has been abysmal... 3rd straight day of drake abysmal. I dont want to buy at all...although if you stop leaving this idiot bad options to choose on the roster he just might not be able to screw up. Cant wait for neshek so we can see some high leverage drake innings vs 3 righties or high leverage torres!
