  1. They do need about 2-3 real hitters (sorry Tellez) or else as their starters hit their innings marks they’re going to have some real problems winning games with Lindblom starting and a bunch of bats with sub .700 OPS
  2. Hard to believe they don’t have a better platoon option at first base then Hiura and his .580 OPS. Daniel Robertson had a .577 OPS and lost his roster spot. Yet they continue to give out at bats to Hiura
  3. What are they going to do have the new guy change his uniform every inning and bat 9 times a game? Coaches coach, but the players are the ones swinging the bat and have played thousands of games before getting to the major leagues. Short of swinging for them what’s a hitting coach going to improve? Do you release all the players or fire the coach? answer me that. Why do you have to do anything? They’re professionals that have reached the highest level of competition in the world. Symbolic moves to “shake them up” don’t really work over the course of 162 games. If they fail to hold on to the Division when it’s definitely there’s for the taking; I imagine there will be changes in both coaching and personnel in 2022.

  5. I don't think it's all that extreme with Wong in the lineup. I'd give the Reds the edge but not by a ton. If the Reds could manage to land Kimbrel, and with Atone, Sims, Gray, Moustakas and Senzel coming back they’d have to be the favorites based on overall talent.
  6. Teams that give 10 ABs a game to players hitting under .200 shouldn’t make the playoffs, if this trend continues much longer the Reds probably win this division especially since their ace pitcher and two top relievers, and two regular position players are all injured
  7. It’s always going to be a white knuckle game with an opposing team that’s decent when the Brewers regularly feature two hitters with sub .200 batting averages and have a score of semi-regulars below the Mendoza line as well.
  8. I like Votto, but this should be a suspension to re-enter the field after an ejection and going to the dugout
  9. Just get on the phone to Braun already and get him back, he could put up a .750 OPS in his sleep, which isn’t anything special but would be great on this team.
  10. Coaches coach, hitters hit. What difference does it make? You think a new coach is going to whisper some different words in the ears of Yelich and Hiura and they’ll start to rake?
  11. Why did they fade for Tellez; they’ve started Hiura in almost every game since the trade and now pinch hit for Tellez with Hiura their 2nd worst hitter
  12. That's an ok send with 2 outs. Takes 2 good throws. Take a chance. I see that, then again it’s the worst base runner they have and they put off for another inning getting into the Reds bullpen.
  13. If composure counts for anything the Reds are going to win the NL Central. Brewers whining over calls and making dumb decisions based on emotion (Yelich whining, Narvaez trying to score) the Reds are just playing.
  14. The point is the Cubs will get a very nice package in return for Bryant. Former MVPs still in their prime especially with Bryant’s versatility simply don’t become available often. For what it’s worth I don’t expect the Brewers to trade any of their top minor leaguers at the deadline (they haven’t done it yet under the current FO). More likely than not, they’ll focus on 2nd tier players they can acquire for low level minor leaguers or in quantity for quality type trades.
  15. Simple economics the greater the demand the higher the price. There is t a contending team that wouldn’t want Bryant in their lineup, thus expect the cost to be high for whomever lands him.
  16. Bryant is being paid 18 million dollars this year. So he's likely going to add 9 million dollars in payroll. Because he is an elite hitter (worst non-covid season .272/.370/.460) and can play 1B, 3B, LF, RF and even CF, the price to acquire him even as a rental would be through the roof not to mention the significant cost in additional payroll. The Cubs probably don't even take the Brewers call unless Garrett Mitchell is the first words they hear. As for the demise of their current club; they're really no different than the Doug Melvin era Brewers. They hit on a large amount of high first round draft picks but they were all position players. The only homegrown quality pitcher Epstein ever had was Kyle Hendricks. Therefore they traded away the next wave of prospects to plug holes mostly with their pitching get Chapman, Mike Montgomery, Quintana, Wade Davis, etc. Like Milwaukee they spent a lot of of their payroll acquiring starting pitching: Lester, Lackey, Darvish, Tyler Chatwood, Cole Hamels etc. which didn't exactly work out how they hoped.
  17. What an awful division. Mahle is the Reds best starter this year. With the way he was pitching any other team would’ve knocked him out before getting through the 6th. Likewise Houser should’ve gotten pounded well before bad defense allowed the men he put on base to score
  18. Recipe for a loss, play shoddy defense behind a pitcher who has poor command
  19. Keystone Cops inning: error, two walks they all score on two wild pitches and a single
  20. Chris Stratton-- Pirates. Nice pitcher controllable piece. Tyler Anderson--Pirates. Another nice pitcher, pure rental. Andrew Chafin--Cubs. Probably due for some regression, nice pitcher, pure rental. Will the Cubs sell? Michael Fulmer--Tigers. Swingman type for length. Pure rental. Kendall Graveman--Mariners. Can go more than an inning, pure rental Chad Green--Yankees. Controllable piece.
  21. Tellez might not be the slugger everyone is hoping for, but then again based on what Milwaukee gave up to get him they probably aren't expecting him to be. While Trevor Richards pitched well for the Brewers and his loss thins out their depth a little, he's 86 games into his career and with his 4th organization. A useful player for sure, but not someone viewed as an important piece. Bowden Francis is a college arm now five years out from being drafted but he's close to the major leagues, and most likely will get a shot at some point. If Tellez ends up being a flop, its too bad but its not as though they gave up a key piece of their next generation of players.
  22. To truly breakout, Urias needs a little more consistency. He went 5 for 13 against the Mets with 2 homeruns and a walk, coming off an 0-15 against the Pirates with 8Ks, after going 6 for 14 against the Cubs with 2 doubles and 2 homers. On a larger scale he has been up and down month to month from hot to acceptable to cold. If he can keep his current production going over his next 250 at bats, I think you may be able to say the Grisham/Urias trade was fair for both teams if not a slight win for the Brewers since Lauer has also pitched acceptably this year after his disaster of 2020, and I was critical of the trade initially.
  23. Maybe between the time the game was cancelled on Tuesday and first pitch of game one of the double header they couldn’t get him from Nashville to New York City?
